Best pack animals

Hi All,

I expect this is a contentious question, but I'm thinking to try hunting with a pack and have heard many suggestions. I want a pack that can do extreme damage to a champ spawn boss - not a tank, but a mega damage pack.

I'm thinking that a hell hound pack - coupled with curse and corpse skin - should work well, but I'm wondering...

Any suggestions?

I've always been partial to frenzied's. As a pack, their DPS is awesome. The downside is they can be difficult to keep alive at times.

Just started a pack of frenzied and tested them out yesterday. They had just bonded and had no training. I ran through the whole spawn like it was nothing (there were about 3 other also). I thought I'd have trouble when I got to the dragons, they were done easily.

There was no tank when Lord Oaks spawned, so I stabled the pack and got my GD. I don't think you could solo Lord Oaks with a pack, but if there was a GD there I would have tested fighting it with a pack.

I am a disco tamer, so that helped a lot. When I discoed something, it was instant death (except for the dragons). This is all untrained, so I was really blown away.

Freinzies

They are by far the best DPM pack out there the only problem is they die FAST. You HAVE to have a tank in the mix. I took a few to Narvery to see how they so and scrolling up the screen was constant 25 - 50 damage counts. Problem arrise when you and only one other pet are in the area and she teles the tank away. Freinzies fall fast. With a tank in the mix they can deal out MASSIVE damage.

Train them up, pick thru them and get ones with high HPs. Be weary of targets with area attacks they will ruin your plans FAST.

Now for a smaller party Bake just plain rule and are even good in PvP.

Have you taken them to the cavern of the discarded? The red rats there take forever to kill, but don't hit very hard.

When I was practicing with a pack in the cavern of discarded, I found the hell hounds (that's what I took) hard to keep alive leading up to the leaders, but once the leader was alone, it dropped very quickly.

So, I farmed up 5 of them, each having 104-110 hit points. I didn't max the other stats for the moment, but if it works, I'll be farming them some more.

In a week or so, I should know.

Do most folks that hunt with packs go with 5 animals and walk, or 4 + a mount?

to train frenzieds you can also pair them up with a stronger tank and take them to shadow ore elemental in yatamotoso mines.

a regular dragon, cu, nightmare, dread mare, lesser hiryu, bake kitsune, etc works fine as main tank. obviously you want the stronget tank you can get which takes as few control slots as possible. maybe a boura would be good, if trained first...

the trick is to unstable the main tank first, then unstable the frenzieds. whatever critter is unstabled first will be attacked by whatever you're training on so it needs to be able to take hits.

let the main pet tank while the frenzieds gain in skill. once they train up switch them out to another pair which need training.

Well, I've gone gargoyle with my tamer, so a mount isn't necessary (or possible). Generally, you'll get an extra 25% damage if you have 5 pack instinct animals rather than 4, and that's an extra 25% for each animal (plus the extra animal), so it adds up to something like an extra 2.25 animals worth of damage compared to four.

At least, that's the theory. I'll be able to give you some feedback once they bond.

As for training, my guildmates usually dig up a shadow ellie near the guildhouse and we train there. They'll put a dragon or two on it, then I'll hop in with my critters. I used to train horses, chickens, giant beetles, fire beetles that way. BTW, a fully trained fire beetle can be pretty nasty.

Frenzied are mounts, so they can double as mounts. Also allows you to save them by mounting them if they are going to die. Double bonus if you are human/elf.
