My fav. Christmas songs are in the diverse multitudes !

I get all teary eyed hearing: "I'll be home for Christmas". Usually cuz with him working for an airline always moving us all over USA, seems we seldom if ever got to be *home* for any Christmases.

When we first were THROWN into the south, Alabama came up with a song that began to be one of our fav. Christmas songs for ...living down here, minus snow, minus relatives & our being yankees all alone down, here cept for us and our kids.

And being in many a year's choirs, down here, YOU try singing along your part to Handel's Messiah ! Still remains a fav. of mine though, complex as it is usually only done at Christmas or Easter in *church choirs* !

I sing it in alto... cuz I can't hit them higher high notes for nothing, even as a girl. lol

It is music QZ. Beliefs are what they are. But the music and the message is what I am going for. Even a heathen can appreciate music.

I am not a religious man myself... but I am caught in the "spirit" of the season this year. I get to spend Christmas with my family for the first time in a decade.

Aye music is just that music. I am just a lil Who down here in Whoville, in the land of misfit toys, and well ya know how some Grinch's are mean ones and may not like mine nor anyone's choices of Christmas songs.

But then some grinches also hate that 'grandma got run over by a reindeer' song, just as much as 'Mary did ya know' song.

Glad you get to spend Christmas with your family, sounds like you will have a merry one.

Our Christmas was sorta the other day, when youngest daughter called us up so we could hear our grandson shouting whoo whoo choo choo in the background to a wooden train set the lil one opened up early.

My hubby carved up a hand made spiffy looking walnut cedar train set of 4 cars of train, over the past several months of his time, feelin a 2 yr. old needs an old school, hand lathed wooden made, not yet ready for prime time electric trainset. Seems the wee one is totally enjoying it too.

We we glad to get to hear him on the phone at least, bout as close to a visit as we could hope for I guess considering the distance between us all.

Every Christmas my Grandfather would play this at 8:00 a.m. until he passed away...

"Christmas" ended for me after his passing and that song has never been played in that house since then...(not by my choice)

On a side note i don't know how anyone can mention christmas songs without mentioning Dean Martin christmas songs..

Same reason as you had...some songs and whom sings them remind us of someone we dearly miss. My father whom was very musically inclined not only was self taught playing myriads of instruments, he also directed choirs.

I grew up with music in the house all over the place, and oddly his own singing voice range was in the range of Dean Martin and Perry Como.

I can hear a Dean Martin song or Perry Como song and it is insta memories of my father, or oddly hear the operas and think of my father. He used to play Madame Butterfly for me on his piano cuz I liked it as a wee girl. My dad died on Father's Day in 93, I do not do very well on father's day at all still..and some christmas songs remind me of my dad.

It was really special at our son's wedding reception, when the band played Ave Maria for the *mother of the groom* dance. Kinda a peculiar song for him to pick for mom of groom dance at his reception. As we waltzed my son said, grandpa is still here, he is at my wedding, he is with you still too, in your heart he remains alive for forever.

Nice to know *grandpa* and his music is within THEM too, our kids.

And every once in a while I will hear that silly song and also think of my father...singin like Dean Martin...when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore ! LOL
