Auction Websites - Whats going on there?

I often browse various UO related websites while I'm at work as I do with stratics. One such site is UO-Auction2.com, and I've found that lately the prices for items categorized as "Rare/Non-Spawning" are simply out of control.

5M For a Non-Vet Reward Black Dye Tub - Europa
14M For a White Bank Check For 1GP - Great Lakes
5M For a Haven Guard Armor Set - Europa
30m For a Serverbirth Necklace Someone Used a PBD On - I"m convinced its a common craftable necklace - Europa
40m For a Orc Skin Mask - Europa

*This is actually my favorite*
Old Quest Plate named 10 (see Pic) 9,999,999 GP
Old Quest Plate named 20 (see Pic) 12,999,999 GP
Old Quest Plate named 40 (see Pic) 18,999,999 GP
Last chance for a complete Quest Plate set with 10,20,30 and 40 69,999,999 GP

By plates they mean a dinner plate that has the number 10, 20, 30, or 40 as the name when you mouse over it. Now no one can sell those damn numbered daggers, why the hell would we want the plates instead?

Heres the best part! Plates 10, 20, & 40 as a total are 42M(rounded up), but the total for all for is 70m. Now based on the escalating price to accompany the higher number the 30 plate should be around 14-16m, but no its actually 28m if you dont assume they added alil extra into the total to compensate for selling a full set.

Now I understand sometimes people get fault prices checks, or are not familiar with the prices of items etc. But several of the items I listed have been placed on uoa2 over and over again at the same price without a single bid...

Those indeed are crazy prices. It seems some rares catch insane prices. These are some quotes off the forum:

-2 piece plough - 420m (this used to go for 10 million as a set 4 years ago. I know because I sold these items to the seller

And some of these items WERE sold for those prices. I guess it's not that odd that people pay huge sums for a plate. With a number. Duh! It's a plate!

There are differences to be considered though. The armor is blessed with an ibd, and the mods/resists are a difficult combination to find, and are highly sought after for mage suits. The scaffold and plough are both server birth items which are rare to begin with but are hardly if ever available for sale. The corrupted heart shield there is only one to my knowledge and is a unique color, it has also since its purchase been enhanced. The shadow artillery there was originally 4 or so, and at least 1 or 2 have since been lost due to accounts being banned, at least one has also been enhanced too.

So you have to take into account the desirability of an item, and its use. something that exists in low numbers and is highly desirable b/c of its graphic, or its use/mods will certainly bring in more money. Numbered plates are not particuarly asthetically appealing, and a black non-vet reward dye tub is not worth 5m. The orc mask, well someone might wear it, but why? There are so many better artifacts that could be had for cheaper which will better fit a template.

I do know that, but it does put everything into perspective. The amount of money going around and the demand of rare items.

My point with the numbered plates was the one i made in the original post regarding the massive price jump he makes from 3 plates to 4 plates, which of course unless the "30"' plate is that much rarer than the others is just silly

I'm not sure about this, but i guess the higher the number, the rarer the plate? Didn't they count as points to gather in this event? ( I didn't attend the Europa version, so I don't know, but it sounds logic to me). As for the total price... Well it IS a set. And it's quite hard to get a full set of them. I really don't find it exagerated or weird or anything, but i guess that's just me then

i guess the idea of an item without any thing unique about it other than being named a number doesnt appeal to me, heh, but its possible the price is right, just simply seemed high to me.

First off I was the seller of that white bank check...
Do you have one? NO I didnt think so. Secondly depending on what shard your on people will pay the gold. White bank checks are rare to come by these days and for an old rare collector Im sure someone will dig deep in thier pockets.

As for the other items I cannot answer for bc they are not my items. I am a rare collector and have a museum full of stuff that keeps growing.

I think its very unfair of you to insult people here from another site.

If you had a vendor and all your items were incorrect should I go around saying man this guy is really over priced to the world?

Some people are trying to make some gold here. If you know your items then you keep your mouth shut and buy as needed. You are just another one of thoes inconsiderate people who feel the need to rain on everyone elses parade.

Well first off I have a vendor in fact I have several, do I make mistakes in pricing? Of course, I'm human, I make plenty of mistakes! Do, I learn from them? Yes, do I get huffy when someone points out a mistake, sometimes, but I still try to learn from it. Is a white bank check rare? Somewhat, but not incredibly so....in fact they generally sell for around a few hundred k to several mil, based on the value of the check, the higher the value the more its worth.

Incidentally this particular item has actually been a topic of conversation here in this forum several times in the past month or so with a number of different individuals providing pricing experience.

Although, perhaps you're right and this post was in poor taste, and my point was not expressed as clearly as it should be b/c as youve pointed out this is clearly a delicate subject for some. So, my apologies if you're offended, was not my intention, but as I tend to be a somewhat apathetic individual it does occur sometimes.

oh and for the record I do have a white check for 193,557k, and I've had several others in the past

oh and i dont recall stating anything negative about anyone in particular, other than pointing out that prices for rares on auction sites seem to be "out of control", and calling into question two specific items(one is actually a set, that I'm not familiar with, which gwen has since cleared up[ty]), and the server birth necklace...so if anyone does know whether its a server birth or just a craftable, please enlighten me.

well the black dye tub isn't a server birth. Came out before the vet rewards, that much is true. But it is far from being rare, see them quite frequently on vendors since most people don't seem to care about the tag. I have 2 or 3 of those lying around too... so I'd be more than happy to be wronged in this

They generally go for about 200-500k, which is almost the same price as the vet reward black dye tub. Some people feel that b/c they do not continually spawn that its worth alittle more.
