If any of you plan on purchasing an account from a Siege player, ask this forum for information on the seller and inquire about the account before proceeding with any transaction. New and old players alike, should heed this warning.

There is an account floating about that is an extremely high risk account. Purchasing this account puts you at a very high risk of losing gold or RL money. Feel free to PM me via Stratics or ICQ me directly [220571153] if you have questions in regard to an account you are considering purchasing, but always seek information from the Siege community in regard to the sellers reputation.

I'm still trying to figure out after all these years why hasn't a thread been stickied to try to prevent things like these from happening?

We have a lot of worthless stickies now isn't it about time to make one that actually stops or helps prevent things like these happening over and over and over and over and over again?

Not mentioning names just pretty much what kat did but just more of a awareness sticky not so much about one particular ****tard...

Well, the funny thing about sticky threads is that once they are stickied, people forget about or ignore them, I guess, because they are always there. I've noticed this even in our private guild forum. lol No one can ever find the Vent/Map info sticky thread, nor do they ever see the Membership Directory that contains ICQ numbers. *shakes head* :lol:

PS... I only have nudies of Virgil!

I already have a PM from a newer player who has recently purchased an account from one of our more... "unsavory" sellers. [I'll leave it at that] Please, if you are a newcomer or need an opinion... always, always, ALWAYS ask the forum about the reputation of a seller. Many of us argue and bicker over silly game nonsense, but those of us who have been around a while know who is reputable and who to avoid and will be happy to advise you accordingly. Just ask! A reputable seller will understand the inquiry.

It just make sense to ask around before buying anything from anyone, or otherwise to take sensible precautions like buying from a vendor or buying accounts using the official EA account transfer system.

Speaking of scammers. Anyone remember the old Crazy Joe episode about selling a 'rare' cigar box?

Exactly!

The use of a broker to act as a go-between for the buyer and seller is also a good idea. Cybernickel is often willing to do this and when he isn't willing to provide this service, there is good reason!

One or more of the Mod's of this forum may occasionally be willing to act as a broker, as well. They are listed at the bottom of this forum and all four of them are very new-player friendly. At the very least, they will offer advice. Its yours for the asking!


Keep in mind that there are numerous ways you might be scammed with account transactions:

Basic scam: Seller takes gold/money and never produces Account info.
Bait & Switch: Seller advertises very nice account, takes the highest bid and gives a far less valuable account in return. [This has happened recently]
Theft type scam: Seller takes gold, gives account info, all seems fine until the seller decides to take the account back at a later date. [Use the EA Account transfer system to avoid this. Its worth the extra money to protect yourself]

Additional tips:

-Never allow a seller to rush or pressure you into a quick transaction!

-Take time to ask the community about the sellers reputation. A reputable seller will understand and even welcome such an inquiry.

-Keep and print all PM's/ICQ's with the seller. Print out the description of the account as well and keep the EA Transfer information to prove that you have purchased an account.

-Sales involving RL money are not allowed on Stratics, but if you do purchase an account for money, print and save all reciepts!

-After purchasing an account, quickly change account password, billing and email address.

-If you discover you have been scammed or hacked, contact EA and the local Net Crimes Division of your local police department ASAP with all records of the transfer. If your local PD does not have an Internet Crimes Department, file a theft report anyway and fax that to EA Customer Service. EA can and will help if you have proof that you purchased the account in question.

Scammers can often find ways around things, but do everything you can to protect yourself!

Im in the process of selling my Blue Elmer Fudd account that has the castle attached to it....whats the "Car Fax" on me....lol

for those few who are interested and bidding on my account...i can tell them im trustworthy...but its better coming from the shard if I am...

Don't use the same email address as is currently in use for other accounts you may own.

That's a good idea.... :) There should always have been a do and don't list of buying/selling/trading...
