I don't own an ATM machine but I highly doubt that you get a bonus when someone uses it.

A lot of this game has been changed and that same question is asked about many changes. I think eventually we'll get down to just "What the heck is the point? Period.

4,203 w/my discount, the next one would be less, retail is 7,643. They are always 10k at the devs store.

For the same reason they have them in airports, shopping malls etc. So customers can get some money to buy things. You see something in the shop but don't have the cash, you have the convenience of an ATM in the store.
Another aspect is if you don't have an ATM and the customer has to leave to get money there is a chance they might see the same thing for less money at a store that does have an ATM or even just buy it at that store regardless due to convenience.

I have one on my lot for the convenience of others. And no we don't get a kick back yet we do loose a tile for property/item limit. So the beni here is more for those who are looking for them then for us...

I refuse to use them myself but i have one since i run a store and people are always comeing in and seeing something they want and are like "Ohh i want that but cant offord it" so they use the machine and buy what they want so i guess thats 1 way to make a profit with the ATM...

the people that I've talked to that have them say they have them for two reasons: 1, they use them themselves and its just easier to have it on the lot than it is to go somewhere else to find one, and second they know that everybody that uses them is helping the game to contineu, so they like knowing that they provide access to that. Also, the price might be 20k now, but if memory serves when they first came out they weren't even 10% of that, and many people got them during the time that they were alot cheaper.
