Atlantic History (People)

Ok so here it is... I am thinking of putting together a bit of a history display type house... What I'm looking for though is important people on Atlatnic Dead or Alive both literally and metaphorically.

Goodman for example obviously
Shinobi
Dead Bob
I don't know any one who has been a huge part of Atlantic I don't care much what for But people we know and love/loved

Please give me some ideas here I'd appreciate it =)

 

[The Home Guild]

I'm history.
Placing homes on atlantic and selling them for many years and still in the business.
I started out with a char named Doi The Warlock[tamer]
Then over the years went to Uo Realestate Co
Then of course the well known The Home Guild Team.
I guess you may want someone that has done much for the community and well i say i have. I have provided Many Homes to those in need,helped many noob players over the years with cash/items/suits.I have done my part.

Just my 2 cents.

Imo... Rachel who owns Rachel's Runes.
This is someone who's been around for a while, sometimes under the Radar, but who has impacted our community for the better...

Her little shop was a godsend when I started playing again, and now I don't know how I would get along without it when I make a new char and I need another runebook or spellbook, or if I find a newblet in Haven who needs a Trammel Cities+Zento runebook, a Dungeon runebook and some recalls.

And I do believe that this is the same Rachel who helped me out quite a bit when I first started playing (way back when)... no doubt in my mind she's helped hundreds more. Always polite, always willing to help no matter how busy.

I'd love to see her name added to the list.

Ahh excellent stuff I realized after I posted this I guess I don't just want people I'd like Guilds and other organizations and such, that have stood the test of time, and contributed something to our little bubble of Sosaria as well =)

And I don't know what all for sure will make it in with limited space and such but I appreciate all the ideas =) Keep um coming =) this is probably a good thread to have going anyway. Keep the memories coming =)

My vote goes for SupSoc inc. Not only is he well know for his crafting and brokering abilities but his integrity and honesty as well. There are very few people in this game who I trust as much as him and I am sure many people can say the same thing.

I believe we put too much emphasis on only recognizing the people who are the "obvious" choices for being noted and not enough on the ones who tend to stay in the background but do just as much good for the people of Atlantic.

That being said, I also second the vote for Lady Rachel, Dead Bob and Lady Tang. Their dedication to keeping our community of players supplied with accurate and inexpensive rune books is something we can all appreciate. I doubt there is a Library on the Atlantic shard that has not benefited from their time and energy.

Last one! Link aka JC the builder. His work with UOGuide is extremely helpful and something we all rely on.

Not to mention his dedication to the Atlantic Boards is tremendous. Some might view that as only beneficial to his own guild but if you think about how many people visit, trash talk and sell/buy off of that site, it can really be seen as a UO commodity.

All of these people are wonderful, caring and dedicated to the Atlantic Community. Without them we would have a lot less information, books and of course, weapons and armor

I like this idea.

I suppose its easy to get carried away with this sort of thing tho so might I suggest some sort of guidelines or rules as to what constitutes a worthy subject?
I can think of people who I associate with being well known characters/places/guilds back in the day but whom might well be irrelevant to people who've played since beta or people outside of certain circles. Its hard to judge whats relevant and whats not.

For example: The imfamous Odyssey club. Someone people loved it, some people hated it. Either way, there was a time when the majority of people on Atl were at least aware of it. Now I expect its long forgotten but was it famous enough to qualify? I'd stick it in my history house.

Another example: The Dismount gimps began on this shard before becoming among the most imfamous characters ever to grace test shard! Would they qualify?

Final example: The RBG. It was a big deal back when events started up. Everyone wanted to join! We were friends with the EM's! We had inside information! Unfortunately when events hit a lull, so did the guild and after a while the active members were just a handful of friends rather than a guild. This is obviously important to Stuffa and myself but is it important enough to the shards history? If RBG then why not HOT or HAX? UWF maybe? I'd have a tough time putting nepotism aside on that call.

I'm sure most players would like to be written into the history books of UO as an important character or part of an important guild. Some have already mentioned that they feel they deserve a place but putting your own name forward is like asking to write your own eulogy, except with some guy's house that he's trying to make all nice and nostalgic.
If it were me doing it it'd end up being about a bunch of my mates and stuff that nobody else ever really cared about. Of course the main attraction would be a shrine dedicated to myself and my wifes but i'd make sure that it was done at least fairly tastefully.

Anyway Vlad im sure you'll do a good job and im looking foward to checking it out.

Well In all honestly I don't know for sure how many people/groups will be able to make this which is why I would like to have people repeat people they feel important. I realize Some folks might not be real thrilled if they don't make the cut for this. And I want to make sure everyone knows that I'm really not trying to play favorites here. But I have limited space for what I want to accomplish and I'm gonna try not to step on to many toes though I know I will. Then I submit a negative vote for the Mystic Gardens -- I've been turned off a few times due to sad sellings of items. For example at the moment:

• sheaf of hay selling for 500 gp whereas it's purchased from NPC for 2 gp
• pumpkin selling for 100 gp whereas it's purchased from NPC for 11 gp
• wheat sheaf selling for 250 gp whereas it's gathered for free
• squash selling for 90 gp whereas it's purchased from NPC for 3 gp ea

And these aren't the hording/camping items like reagents - it's just sad.

give it away man ..... give back to the community if they don't know where to get that stuff......

Oh & the fertile dirt selling for 25 gp ea whereas it's purchased from Mystic NPC for 2 ea... but that's now a camping/hording thing like reagents.

That shop just symbolized greed - imho.

I generally worry more about the vendor owner rather than the mall owner in situations like that. Just don't buy from the specific problem vendors.

I know Kero has done a lot over the years for the community including many player run events. I will add a vote for her.

Still, it is going to be tricky to single out the important people ... Perhaps it'd be a neat idea, if the proposal does take place, to include a logistic to list/identify the important folks' accomplishments & have room for expansion of the initial listing. There are a great deal of folks who never read these boards that would have some meaningful input too I imagine. A lofty endeavor this is.

Doc of Jhelom...he has helped thousands of folks for the past 12 years.
Goodman..a legend
DeadBob and Tang..they have run the Book Store for years..long before rune books they supplied folks with marked runes for their adventures. And they also do community events at times.
Andrasta..she has done it all..from rp, pvp wars back in the days of Fel only..to curator of Goodmans Library.
Aalia..curator of WinterBreeze, also a long time player and ever so helpful to everyone she meets.
Kero..owner of Mystic Gardens Library, and a maker of books long before I started.
Pink Dragoness...another unsung heroine who has helped so many people.
Elvira..owner/operator of the Odyssey Club. She had a house for new players also and helped many a peeps.
Taylor...who doesn't play much anymore, but was always in Haven or New Haven outfitting someone in better armor.
Vlad...for his community events, and contributions that keep Atlantic humming.
Tazar...guild leader who is always willing to jump in and lend a helping hand when needed.
Link..UO guide has been a godsend to many..and although not guild leader he is one of the more vocal on these boards from HOT. Love em or not..they are Atlantic born and as others come and go they stand still.
Sup Soc...for his fair brokering and awesome armors.
Tomas...who proved to us all Luna could be competed against from anywhere. And for hosting the Rares Festivals, and other community events.
Shinobi...of course!..He is infamous..*hides*
Stuffa...just cause he is like so cool..and stuffs...*Notrab!*
Molly..who is a long standing rp'er...
Draconi..who is our Master!..but was once a lowly newb like the rest of us..trapsing about Atlantic..running from Mongbats.
Sakkarah...who was guild leader of DEI..then went on to become a dev herself.

There are many many people that deserve mention...certainly much more than I do. My votes would be for all of the above. Many people, guilds and establishments deserve some immortality. I do feel I have a solution for this that would make everyone happier but I would need several volunteers.

Alantic Side Bar

This is the reason that I joined Stratics. Aalia & I dreamed of updating that Side Bar and taking it from 1999 to 2009 and filling it with everything listed above and more so that the people and places of Atlantic are not forgotten.

If I can get some volunteers, we can start filling that Side Bar in with all the people, guilds, places & establishments that call Atlantic home, past or present. It can be merchants, roleplayers, average citizens or famous pks. We can make a standard format for each category and start working on it together.

The volunteers that work hard and stay with the project...those I will accept applications from for an Atlantic Reporter if they are interested in doing this work on a continuing basis.

It would be a good winter project

Is any one interested? If we do this....then no one need be left out.

Smogg Azalin was the GM of the Cult of Infernal Necromancers [Ncr]. Azalin was the GM of [OES].

Hmm..I think I see a pattern here. The people who started out by being kind and helpful and trustworthy have now become owners or curators of some of Atlantic's most successful shops
