Before I make a suggestion, let it be known that it was explained to me at length long ago (when I wanted to be able to do so) why the public isn't allowed to paint their own pictures on those empty canvases with paints and brushes. and why there is no ART-Craft skill to learn. With that said, here is my suggestion:

When I go into a building like this and see empty canvases,

- - - - -

it makes me wonder why UO artists, programmers and developers don't use their artistry to create more interesting paintings for UO enjoyment.
Paintings from shipwrecks are the result of someone's creative artwork!
I'd like to see more!

Couldn't a program be done where a paint-brush targets and creates pictures on those blank canvases - random pictures - creations done by UO staff artists? A program somewhat like the Plant program? Pictures instead of plants. Brushes instead of seeds. Different sized/shaped canvases instead of pots with dirt.

The Players wouldn't know what to expect if there were enough variety of paintings to be had. And of course, after painting a thousand pictures and getting numerous duplicates, one might get ONE of the few random RARE MASTERPIECES.

FUN.:danceb:

Interesting concept.

At one time I did have a scene set up on one of my houses. I put one of the shipwreck pictures on the easel, a vendor on a stool by it, the painter, and behind the easel, facing the painter a vendor on a chair in a plain dress matching the colour of the gown on the figure in the painting.

Yes. Can you imagine how much more was lost in that revert? For awhile I thought I'd been banned for posting that Nude Ostrich. I couldn't log in to find out why all the posts had been deleted. Guess it's not funny but I began to think that Ostrich had caused Stratics to go down.

As I was saying before poor Stratics was so badly interrupted - -

You are an artist! ... I do hope you have a screen shot of your Scenerio .. or that you will put the scenerio together again and post a screen shot for everyone to see1
I would try make that scenerio but, Petra Fyde - that's your original idea!
I can't copy your work. :)

Now where were we?

- - will try pick up where this left off tomorrow and hope no one pushes another wrong button .. :sleep2:

(hope there aren't a pile of mistakes in here. No time to edit again)j Oh oh my wall clock crashed. I thought it was much earlier ...

So - -while I have my coffee before real life takes over again, I might get to re-post what I can remember of this:

Another thought: Suggestion:

The ARTIST PALETTE
with ARTIST SKILL

The Artist Skill requires the player to try to paint a picture on a blank canvas of various sizes, beginning with a small selection of canvas sizes and student paints.

Using the Artist Palette and different size brushes, after many failures, and requiring more resources *paint & brushes*, a painting randomly selected from a supply of paintings for the various skill levels, will appear on the canvas. (*all paintings approved by and created by UO Staff Artists, Developers, Programmers)

As the skill level gains, the number of paintings created increase but many duplicates occur depending on the supply of paintings available at various levels of skill (*all paintings approved and/or created by UO Staff). The player experiences problems approaching the blank canvase when starting out, and has to learn how to use his tools to create art, and isn't able to handle better tools (same idea as being strong enough to wear armor heavy armor and wield heavy weapons) until his skill is stronger.

When the ARTIST reaches a higher level, the paintings are good enough to sell to the public. A GRAND MASTER Artist, will occasionally paint a rare Masterpiece *(once out of 1000 paintings) from a randomly selected small set of Masterpieces made available by UO Artists ..or from selected and approved player submissions .. (*again, random pictures supplied and approved by UO Developers/programmers/artists)

Another poster before the crash was recommending Art Contest and having players submit their artwork for consideration ... great idea! FUN!

BUT, - - and there will be many BUTS as Lady Storm previously pointed out before the great crash above

How about a menu giving a selection of thumbnail pictures to chose from, like the tailoring/blacksmith menus BUT without more BODS <<<--- BUT that would take the surprise element out of random selection .. so scratch that idea!

I am sure this Thread will attract a few jokers saying what players would paint on these blank canvases if they could - - so, once again,I suggest there is no need for explaining what they would like to paint in detail, as you can imagine all that, and, now, at the risk of repeating myself - -
- - may I be the first joker? .. FUN!!

I wish to re -submit a NUDE  Oill Painting to the cause!

But first -

I wish to make the very first NOMINATION FOR A PICTURE for The Judge's consideration as a MASTERPIECE *which was posted below while I was still editing this post ...*

PETRA FYDE's MASTERPIECE

THE ARTIST

YES!!!!
:scholar: (warning:(any rejections of this masterpiece will bring a riot of protesters!)

Now with that addition - back to what I was saying ...
There could be various types of paintings the 'UO Judges" could select from and catagorized into TYPES of paintings the player can chose from such as: SCREEN SHOTS, ORIGINAL ART, ANIMALS, PEOPLE, PORTRAITS, DEMONS. MONSTERS ...

Here are a few examples of screen shots that could be submitted for a contest.

I love Ostards. Their feet are so cute. And how about favorite screen shots like of a pet?

Now ..once again,

May I be second to submit a painting for the Judges' consideration ..
