Anyone notice a problem with not being able to tame certain creature?

has anyone noticed a problem with taming certain creatures? An alliance member last night who has taming of 50 was trying to tame a Ilama last night and got the messege that he wouldnt be able to tame it.. he then went to something smaller which I think was goat or sheep and got the same messege.

Was he getting the message that the animal had too many previous owners or just that he had no chance of taming it?

Im pretty sure it was the latter messege he got that he had no chance taming the creature I could be wrong though.
