string_dictionary.uop is 40M of the 49M patch for the EC... so a LOT of text for upcoming stuff I would imagine.

So they bother to tell us about the servers going down but not about the big patch.... there's a shocker for ya.
I just don't get why it's so hard to tell us about a patch or give us at least a couple days notice when they are taking the servers down.
But perhaps that's just me.

Sadly though, a text based client wouldn't be all that much of a downgrade to what they're running now. You knows son?
Oh and damn homeboy, mIRC? Ids forgot that mother******.... (I kinda miss using mIRC with UO. Huh... I think the last time I even used it was atleast 11 years ago.)

That was probably Scalis. For us it was included not in any notes for the Patch but in terms of explaining the down time.
Perhaps, we may assume, in addition to the text that was added, the Scalis fix was in the patch, rather than in anything they did while the shards were down.

It was neat to see him; neater still to interact with him; neater still to be part of pissing him off.
One of the most under-rated aspects of UO is the way it allows characters who are in most cases comparatively ordinary (in that few of our characters are princes or kings or the like) to interact with epic figures. Galen's faced Minax, Virtuebane, Astaroth (though granted Astaroth was merely a scripted bot at the time). He's personally handed to Queen Dawn the Blackrock Hammer she used to smash Casca's gem, thus killing him. Galen met Nystul, though as was the case with Astaroth, Nystul was at the moment a scripted bot. And there've been more moments like that I can't recall.
During the old Trinsic undead invasions, plenty of people got to interact with Minax and with the vile lich in charge of the invasions. And, later, with Dupre leading that city's reconquest.
Many of us have met Sherry, and Lord British.

Queen Dawn blows.. players need to decide more in these storylines, although that may be happening on your shard..
The shards I play have crappy EMs.. or in the case of Atlantic, too many players and only 1 EM, so they just say screw you and don't do anything.

I agree that Players need to decide more storylines. Would be excellent if the EM's and DEV's would take the players seriously especially ones who have immense knowledge of the old UO Lore. Would be good if some of them could assist in the writing of fiction.... and Metafiction for the game... I would very much like to see way more interaction going on...
And while Yes I play on one of the best of the best of shards as far as EM events are concerned ... (I cannot say enough good things about the EM's on GL's..... ).... I would certainly welcome far more interaction and what would really make it great is fiction that actually has an IMPACT on the game... lose this battle this is lost... want to gain something back you have to work at it..... Not scripted stuff where the event lasts this long and then it's gone no matter what. However I can see on smaller shards where there isn't much going on and folk don't really turn out for events that things could become a problem..... but I think events should be created based on the size of the populus that works on them.
I hate when there is a monster that drops things and 50 people show up from other shards and get half the 10 measly drops. In my opinion the click this item after we do this and everyone who came gets something is FAR better. I hate when most of the reward goes to crosssharders who only show up for events with drops and could care less about the outcome and haven't put any time or effort into building up the event. They have no idea what the event is about why it's happening or what's going on and they don't care. Meanwhile those who have followed the event since the beginning and helped it along as well as worked out the solutions and actually CARE about the Event/storyline and the outcome end up with nothing. I think that stinks.
lol yeah I used to use mIRC to connect to Stratics chats back in the day :x ... then I started to use Chatzilla hehe. fun times. what always confused me was some people claimed to use mIRC all the time ... sort of made me feel bad, like when you go to test center and you find people who religiously play there, ask you to join their guild, lol ... sell stuff on vendors ... ah.

You sure that's new? It just looks like text for the exodus control towers from way back when.
It does sound like the old towers, but there are the new crystals you obtain from the Bane Chosen during this invasion. I wonder if it's something for them.

I'm not as worried about the items.. but I would love to see shard differences such as this shard failed this, but this shard did that, with different events..
I talked to Mesanna in person early 10 or end of 09 about making events where the players DO decide what happens, either by a vote, failure to complete something, etc.. unfortunately, nothing came of it. I think events like this could help make the game far more interesting.
