Anyone know what 'UO Screenmates' is? or was?

I stumbled over some old links i had in cute ftp, and there was EA as one site. Browsing the site, I came over this:

ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/origin/uo/lbr/

and a file called UOScreenMates.exe there.

Anyone know what that program ever was???

I am unfamiliar with it beyond a guess.

ZOMG! This is quite annoying.

It has these stupid motion 3D avatars that come up on your screen. They move around then like die and repeat.

For others who want to try this ( i recommend not to lol) here is the read me file.

UO ScreenMates Installation Instructions

To install the UO ScreenMates you will need to do the following:

1. Install MSagent. To do this, DOUBLE LEFT-CLICK on the “MSagent.exe” file that was placed into C:\UOScreenMate (This is the default directory.). Follow the onscreen instructions to fully install MSagent.

To launch the Blackthorn UO ScreenMate, DOUBLE LEFT-CLICK on the UOSMBlackthorne2.exe located in the C:\UOScreenMate directory.

To launch the Dawn UO ScreenMate, DOUBLE LEFT-CLICK on the UOSMDawngirl2.exe located in the C:\UOScreenMate directory.

To see the different options available to your ScreenMate, RIGHT-CLICK on the ScreenMate and an Options Menu will appear.

LEFT-CLICK on the ScreenMate to “punish” your ScreenMate.

To close the ScreenMate, RIGHT-CLICK on the ScreenMate and choose EXIT.

Not from I am seeing. It is avatars only. No screenies at all and has mp3's of some of the city music but for what reason I have no idea

They seem innocent, screensavers, animations, etc. But it is way too easy to hide something sinister in a simple download and unless you absolutely trust your source, I wouldn't recommend installing.

When they first appeared, RPGdot.com described them as :

"Over at the Ultima Online - Lord Blackthorn's Revenge site, you can download a nifty program called UO screenmates. What is it, exactly? You get Lord Blackthorn and a female avatar on your desktop, and you can make them do different things like running, walking, dying, yawning and such. It's a 4.76MB download"

As the original poster says, originally hosted on the EA website, I may have a copy somewhere..... I seem to remember it being fairly unimpressive though.
