Anyone know how to take screenshots?

I'd like to take some screenshots of items,etc for when I'm trying to sell on the forums but I have no idea how to do it.I tried my print screen button but didn't seem to do anything.Thanks for any advice.

I believe it's ALT-PrtScrn then paste into Windows Paint and crop. That's the sooper-inexpensive method. You could browse download sites for screen capture products as freeware or shareware also.

I use Gadwin PrintScreen for the action shots http://www.gadwin.com/
Free for the basic version.

and GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) http://www.gimp.org/ to crop images out, clean up pictures of say the new plants and anything else I can think of. Free under the GPL license.

You can use Print Screen.

After you hit PrtScrn, open MS Paint and Paste it.

You can only do these one at a time though.

If you're gonna do multiple screenshots, and know ahead of time.

1. Go into a graphics program, and open as many new images as you can. (I personally use Corel Photo House, that came wi thWordPerfect suite 8, but about anything more sophisticated than MS Paint will probaby let you work multiples)
2. Hit "Print Screen" button (often abbreviated PrtScrn on keyboards)
3. Tab over to the graphics program, and hit CTRL-V to paste the captured image into the top-most open new image window that you created earlier.
4. Save the image with a short name, and close that window in the program (often you can close an image, and it will prompt you to save - if your program does that it will be a little quicker. Some even have default names for each image that will be date or time based, so you don't have to type a name immediately). Make sure the next new window in the graphics program is open and ready for the next pasting.
5. Tab back over to game. Repeat steps 2-5 for each additional image, until you run out of open "New image" windows or things to screencap.
6. If you ran out of open "new image" windows, open new one(s) as quickly as possible, then go back to step 2. If you've already used a number of the new images, and you get a lull in the event that you know will be followed by lots of pic-taking, take that time to open the new images to replace the ones already used.
7. When you're done with the screencaps, and can log out, go back into the graphics program. Edit each pic, saving the edited versions (or parts thereof) under new names. After all, sometimes you'll goof an edit, and other times you'll need to get several small pics from one single large pic, so don't overwrite the originals until you know for sure you won't need them.
8. Upload the edited images to a host that allows image hosting.
9. Now, you're ready to put them on whatever web page or forum you need - you just need the web addresses of the images.

two thumbs up for Gadwin print screen. free to download. super easy to use (you just hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard). you can specify ahead of time which directory you want your screen shots to go into. to post my screen shots to the boards i upload them to photobucket, but there are tons of options you can use for that part of things.

Thats why I got hooked on it. I figured out how to use it in a minute and its been working great. It has enough features and its not intrusive, the configuration to disable/enable on windows startup is readily available. Handles time delay shots, date stamps, and my favorite high quality image files, not just jpeg's!

I just want to thank everyone for their input and advice.I'm gonna go with the Gadwin program since it's free and try it out.Maybe try that technique with Corel when I get more comfortable.Thanks for all the help guys.
Maybe my posts on the forums will be more colorful soon.

I am using the very old but very handy UO Screenshot utility. It makes screenshots in 2 sizes, you can assign any key as hotkey, and it can take screenshots automatically at a certain interval. You can configure where the screenshots will be saved and how strong the JPG compression will be:
