Well that's a bummer. So much for that thought.I was using a 3G usb stick when I went on holiday recently. I had 1GB of data allowance and this was gone within two evenings of playing UO!
Nothing too extensive, light monster hunting, crafting etc. Something I could stop paying attention to easily. Probably not worth 35 bucks a month + the modem cost, wouldn't it depend a lot on what you are doing? if you are just sitting at the bank or if you are running around the world fighting doing whatever?
Can you not get a "pay as you go" option?Probably not worth 35 bucks a month + the modem cost,
Yeah, but it would end up way more expensive. And I'm a broke ass.Can you not get a "pay as you go" option?
I went back to the UK and picked up a USB dongle and then I could just topup whenever I needed again. I could also choose how much data I wanted to topup.
Would it also depend on which client? Legacy client, i would think, have less demand.wouldn't it depend a lot on what you are doing?
Using those numbers, you would be looking at ~4.5gb a month throughput for UO.The numbers given above are about the same for me:
(total traffic measured "on wire" / up & down)
- Standing idle in the middle of nowhere with no dynamic objects (basically, the network "keep alive"): 40 Bytes/s (~140KB/hour)
- Running around in Luna as fast as possible, stepping on all house stairs to load the full house content: 5'000+Bytes/s (~17'500KB/hour)
I assume these are both extremes, so the ususal gameplay killing some monsters in a not too overcrowded area will be around 4'000KB+/hour - it really depends on how many moving monsters and objects are within the viewing range...
The use of UOAssist should not add any mentionable extra traffic (except for the update request at startup!), as it is hooked into the usual UO network stream primarily supporting the client/UI.
CC or EC should also make no difference trafficwise. Turning off some effects in EC does not alter the datastream, it only reduces the CPU/GPU load.
I tried Verizon's mobile broadband a few years ago (truckdriver and had to go back over the road -coast to coast). They had the 5G bundle then. Personally I exceeded that in 2 weeks with just UO and ICQ and occasionally using mapquest. I quickly paid the cancellation fee and did without.Thinking about getting some kind of mobile broadband for my laptop so I could play UO at work, wondering how much data I would need. I assume its pretty low.
I'm going to let this go as a rough estimate.3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169 39937510582097494459230781640628620899862803 48253421170679821480865132823066470938446095 50582231725359408128481117450284102701938521 10555964462294895493038196442881097566593344 61284756482337867831652712019091456485669234 60348610454326648213393607260249141273724587 00660631558817488152092096282925409171536436 78925903600113305305488204665213841469519415 11609433057270365759591953092186117381932611 79310511854807446237996274956735188575272489 12279381830119491298336733624406566430860213 94946395224737190702179860943702770539217176 29317675238467481846766940513200056812714526 35608277857713427577896091736371787214684409 01224953430146549585371050792279689258923542 01995611212902196086403441815981362977477130 99605187072113499999983729780499510597317328 16096318595024459455346908302642522308253344 68503526193118817101000313783875288658753320 83814206171776691473035982534904287554687311 59562863882353787593751957781857780532171226 806613001927876611195909216420198

I don't know. Sorry.
I copy and pasted it from the internet so it MUST be right.I'm going to let this go as a rough estimate.
Yeah if It were 30mb an hour that would most likely meet my needs actually. I was thinking I would use it like 60 hours a month give or take. A good portion of that would be idle, or hidden while a pet ate something. Etc. I only use the CC as well. When I still did something that shouldn't be named at this forum, each active client burned 4 Kbyte per second on average, up an down so 8kbyte total per second, so that'd be a little under 30MB per hour. Idle clients were less than 1kbyte/sec.
But the thing-that-shouldnt-be-named doens't use encryption, and encryption makes everything a bit bigger.
Don't forget to bring an up to date client though, the patches can be quite bigYeah if It were 30mb an hour that would most likely meet my needs actually. I dunno... The real problem is the contracts really. I don't expect to keep this boring ass job much past new years if there is any justice, and I don't think there are any non year long contracts that aren't by the MB, which are absurd ripoffs.
Thanks for all the input though folks, good info! Good to know no matter what.
