Actually, yes...

It's not the forums, but any of the "info" pages

I have this happen as well, about 75% of the time. From what I've gathered, its certain ads at the top of the page that crash Firefox.

mine crashed every time i went to the main page. it is the snow falling animation, i'm pretty sure. i forbid the main page, and every other page that has snow on it with NoScript, and haven't had a problem since.

oki, I've cut down the snow so that it's only on the index page now, not all the pages. If that doesn't help I guess I'll have to take it off. :(
I haven't had any problems with it at all. I'm not sure why others have. Mine is a newly installed pc though so firefox and java etc are all right up to date.

I don't understand it at all. My hubby's pc is still waiting to be upgraded. It's an Athlon 2200XP with 1GB ram and an old GeForce 4 graphics card. It no where near compares with today's multiple processor machines, but he has no problem at all with the snow script.

It has been happening to me also a lot.

I click some stratics' link to UO related pages and firefox crashes.

Frequently also.

I tried to replicate this crash a few times and it just won't happen.

Have you all checked your add-ons to make sure they're up to date?

Yes, yes, it has nothing to do with that.

Edit: let me rephrase, it doesn't crash Firefox for me, but it does max CPU usage. (Freezes IE)
and I'm 100% sure it's the snow that is the problem for me.

Yes, yes, it has nothing to do with that.
OS versions?
Latest updates?
Running software?

There has to be something in particular that makes a website crash an entire browser for some people and not others.

Does the site crash in internet explorer for those that are experiencing it? has everyone tried disabling ALL add-ons in firefox?

I'll mess around with it when I get home from work it deffidently wasn't the snow though because it happened a lot even before the snow was added.

AdBlock + NoScript.

I use Flash Killer:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5842

I got so sick of those [...] damn Lord of the Rings online ads f/ that ugly hobbit dude so I just decided to block all of Stratics' ads. Actually, what I did was when I saw the ads on Stratics, I went to Page Info (right click on page look for option to Page Info) and then went to Media, and blocked the ads that way ;P.

I use Ad Blocker too:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6826

I see NoScript as most useful addon anyone can get for reducing annoyance:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

Allowing random people to execute, usually poorly written and annoying but sometimes malicious, JavaScript within your client is both a bad idea from a security standpoint and definitely an annoyance standpoint too.

No Stratics, I don't wanna execute the tracking code you've embedded onto your pages from Google. I don't wanna run your embedded scripts from 3rd party advertising agencies to target Flash ads to me and I certainly don't want poorly written decorative snow scripts crashing my browser after being embedded into the page by someone not competent enough to recognize and deal with the often complex issue of scripts and browser-compatibility in web design.

Anyone with a serious interest in keeping tight control of what random sites can run on your browser should certainly check it out. It'll protect you from many of the zero-day attacks against browser software also since many of them exploit weaknesses in the script engine to do unsavory things.

Take care.

That is, of course, your prerogative.
However, was it necessary to be such a jerk about it?

I had to log out, update/edit my Stratics' settings - in the last hour - because even tho logged in, it was throwing errors when I tried to post. FireFox 2.0. Otherwise this site works great for me, as it has been for months. I am also very conscious about what's running, and what's allowed to run. Cheers mate.

I have the same problem. I actually tended to blame Firefox, but now I can see other people's browsers crash, too. Interesting.

P.S.: Of course I use flash blocker and ad blocker, it still crashes. Even with the snow turned off.

Scripts I, as the incompetent currently running this show, have included in the pages are the collapsing menus and the world clock. I am happy to provide the actual script for examination by someone competent to eliminate these as the cause of these crashes. Which neither I, nor my husband, are experiencing.
Of course if anyone feels they could do a better job than I am, they could always apply to Den Dragon to take over.

I have never had a problem with this site crashing and I only use FF, saying that I wasnt on here when the snow was. However I use no script and adblock so I dont get all the crap adds on any site or anything I dont want. You should not be having a problem now if Petra turned the snow script off. Changing the logo graphics as long as its just graphics and not size or anything should not bother anyone, providing ofc there isnt flash or anything like that in it.

I like Flash Killer for sites where the flash loading slows down my computer too much, like when I cover NBA games. Has a button you can press to clear the Flash away when you want to :)

When Stratics ran the ads with the hobbit though, that was too much for me, because when I hit up forums I open like 15 threads in tabs lol :p so not only did the flash kill my cpu but every tab had that ugly dude ;D

I always crash using Firefox on YouTube, I never crash from Stratics

Upside is, by changing the header graphic instead, we get the seasonal flavour on the forums too. Though I had to do a hard refresh to see it. Browser cache I guess?

Alot of times if you are working with graphics or websites your cache can get over loaded with file ect. Hubby who is a web designer is always dumping his cache, cookies, everything because if the file is stored and you update it, alot of times it pulls the old file in the temp folder, not the new one.

You may not have noticed, but firefox has an error console that you can find under "tools". Pretty interesting read, just click on it while the stratics or other page is active.

I've been having a lot of problems with Firefox over the last day or so, not just on here.

I'm using Chrome right now.

Just to add to the confusion, this started happening to me BEFORE Petra added the snow. When I boot up a browser, I have a minimum of three tabs open, to check the sites I mod or admin on. As soon as I boot up stratics, the whole thing freezes solid, then crashes and burns. Get the little 'debug' option on the box, but it doesn't seem to do a lot of good to press it.

Petra, I don't think it's your snow hun.
