Any real use for older pets?

I just recently returned and my stables are full of what once were powerful pets. Is there any use for White Wyrms, normal Dragons, Hyru's, Kirins, etc? I know some people might say yes due to sentimental reasons like the good ole days but with Cu's and Greater Dragons, is it worth it to take up the slots with the older pets?

It depends, some pets flat out work better in some situations. Don't sell your old pets short, well trained and with some proper attention they can still do really well.

Personally I'd avoid switching over to a greater dragon, they are useful for nothing besides being an over grown meat shield. Cu's have their uses but not in every day hunting, they are slow, and sure the self healing is nice but other than in certain situations like Keying Travesty I've found them practically useless, I can out damage both the Cu and the Greater Dragon with a pack of frenzied ostards.

Out of the newer pets the one's that are the most useful are probably I'd have to go with the Rune Beetle and the Kitsune. Running those as a pair or the Rune Beetle with a good ole Nightmare is an excellent pairing then again since they have split damage types into 5 groups it's all about matching the right pet to the right hunt.

Personally I don't like the Cu at all, it takes forever to kill anything and I don't find it any easier to keep up than the Hiryu.
Mare and beetle keep around for sure, together they do way more damage than a GD or a Hiryu, and some groups or situations call for the high damage output.
I would get a good GD though, there isn't a whole lot in the game that they can't take on. They are tank type pets, and admittedly their massive HP and STR totally devalues some of the old high-end monsters.
The only three paragons I haven't tried to solo are the AW, succubus, and Skeletal Dragon. I can solo the mini-champs in the Abyss, rat and pixie renowneds take forever to kill solo, but I can almost take a nap during those fights.
The only reason I have had my dragon and WW out of the stable since I came back was to pet them and put them back.
Really it's about what you find fun, and what you want to do with your time.

Rune Beetle + Bake/Mare is still a really good combo.

White Wyrms though.. Probably not much normal use, as well as regular dragons.

With that said, you can still use them if you want of course. You're just hurting your damage a bit, but fun > damage.

Oh and greater dragons (good ones) are incredibly useful, and very tank. Would definitely pick one up.

Depends on why you hunt. If its for gold then probably not, but if you want some fun rather than just overpowering everything with a GD then imho some old pets deliver. I still love my meat eating Uni, and not just because of its diet. Immune to poison - watch it take out a para RC in no time at all and loads of fun in the Keep. So, as I say, depends on your play style.

In my opinion the normal old dragon and the mare are two of the most underrated pets in the game. But most pets are situational. The beetle + mare is an excellent combination, but beetles can be hard to keep alive. Nothing out damages a fully trained well chosen pack of frenzied ostards, but they take up a lot of stable slots and they are very hard to keep alive in higher end contexts.

It all depends on your template, your playstyle, and the context. Pets are tools, and you want to use the right tool for the job. The greater dragon is the closest thing there is to a multipurpose tool in pets, but there is almost always a more efficient choice than a greater dragon. I wouldn't get rid of any of your pets, especially if they are good quality pets, unless you are stuck for stable slots. In that case what you get rid of will depend on which ones you find useful.
