Template

My prodo template looks like this:

120 Fencing
110 Ninjitsu
110 Stealing (80 real)
100 Hiding
100 Snooping (90 real)
95 Magery
80 Stealth (40 real)
80 Poisoning

Skills

Magery - I initially tried chivalry, but eventually dropped it for magery for the following reasons. First, I can near insta-heal/cure with only 2/6 (as opposed to 4/6 with chiv). Second, the teleport and invisibility spells are lifesavers, as you can cast them while visible and/or aggro'd. Third, if I see a bot on a track, I can mark a rune to return later. Fourth, I can gate for team stealing. Lastly, incognito/polymorph aren't especially useful, but they can be fun sometimes.

Ninjitsu - In my mind, ninjitsu is indispensable, for several reasons:

1) Shadowjump. The number one thief killer, in my mind, is passive reveal. If you stealth up to an elf, you have an over 50% chance to be passive revealed, and your outlook's not too bright against humans and gargoyles, either. As soon as you're revealed, you can expect an "all kill." However, with shadowjump, you never need risk passive reveal: just shadowjump next to your target. Also, shadowjumping doesn't count as movement, so it won't close the packs you've snooped. Once you get the hang of it, you can shadow jump to every player at a champ, open all their packs, and sit back and watch for the best scroll. Shadow jump is also a way to avoid being hit/revealed by earthquake/meteor strike, as shadowjump casts much faster than those two spells.

2) Wolf form. Besides giving you increased movement speed, wolf form gives you +20 hp. As soon as you make a steal, hit wolf form and run for it. Once you're in the clear, just hide and stealth away at mounted speed. Unless I get trapped in paralyze fields, I'm never, ever killed in wolf form.

3) Shurikens. Kill bots and supposed "PvPers" who like to shoot arrows at people from within the safety of their houses.

4) Smoke bombs. If someone is flagging you, you cannot hide without them.

5) Death strike. The further they run, the quicker they die.

Suit

My suit includes: Burglar's Bandana, Pendant of the Magi, Shadow Dancer Leggings, Quiver of Infinity, Totem of the Void, Ornament of the Magician, Cloak of Silence, and an imbued ring (15 hci, 3 fcr, 20 lrc, 15 fire, 7 cold), as well as custom gloves, arms, and tunic. When I cast gate travel, I throw on the Conjurer's Grimoire to bring me to 110 magery. When I'm killing a bot, I replace my totem of the void with the Conjurer's Trinket to increase my damage and hci. The suit was surprisingly easy to piece together (on Europa, no less) and has 100 lrc, 2/6, 30 lmc, and all 60s.

Good luck, buddy. Let me know if you end up on Europa.

if you are on prodo shard you can basically add atleast 100 skill points to your template, and if you are looking for survivability (and not so much offense), you are heading in the right direction. i would take wrestling to 120 as you will pretty much only be stealing from yew gate pvpers or whatever (prodo) and they all have 110-120 wep skill, so you want to be able to have a chance. that way you will be able to hit em with the disarm or donkey punch when you need it.

as of right now, i would tell you to drop your stealth to 80, go 100 snoop, 120steal 115-120 ninja (for less animal form fails, the BEST lifesaver a thief can have, and better shuriken). man, my post is kinda ****ty today, excuse me, still powerin down some coffee lol. for you, if youre on a prodo shard, would suggest this template:

120 stealing
100 snooping
100 hiding
80 stealth
120 wrestling
115 ninja
100 magery (i would throw on some magery, just for recall, gate, invis, ev, heal, cure, all that good stuff)
and if you wanted you could put whatever skill points you have left over into spellweaving for pixies and what not. they are fun if you want to try to gank someone lol.

on siege, basically the same template, but instead of wrestling my temp is:
120 steal
100 snoop
100 hide
80 stealth
100 resist (for naked all 40s resists)
110 magery
110 ninja

the 'survivability' of a thief is primarily based on a few things. preparation, experience, timing, and PING!!!! there is a delay after you steal something so you cant just steal and instant smoke bomb or instant hide. you need to know your escape route, not be laggin, and steal, animal form, and haul llama ass laughing until you can hide.

oh, one last thing. for your absolute BEST bet of getting away with a steal, carry a piece of old invis clothing/jewlery. just steal, then throw on the jewls and stealth away.

sorry meant to add that my snooping will be 100 with bandana.
right now my suit arties look like this
burglers bandana
shadow dancer leggings
heart of lion
cloak of silence
50 ep ecru ring
crafted arms and neck and hands

going to imbued ring and brac to each have 15 dci which will make me 45 dci for not getting hit. Not sure what prodo means. But i play atl. suit is currently 70/68/68/70/75 resists not sure what lmc is. i dont have assit for this account eek now that i think of it i wont have the one touch wolf form like my main account has idk maybe if i get more trained chars ill actully consider buying it i know its a life saver. main account has 7 chars slots and after 1 year of playing only 1 char is completely finished others arent gimped just not 120ed yet. spellweaving sounds like great idea for a theif but when i think of it might be a hassle getting quest done with a char that has preety much no way of fighting. i do run an elf for night sight and mana. maybe spellweaving would be great no regs and a level 6 wildfire can light up the whole screen for a easy get away maybe i should do it and maybe use a friend to help me complete quest. any other ideas let me know.

Weaving is a nice option. I can't imagine playing a thief without llama/wolf form . . . how will you get away after a steal?

Whatever you do, please don't make another tamer/thief - at least not on Atlantic. Shinobi is successful because he's innovative, not because he's a good gate thief. :-/

Here's what I'm working toward on Siege Perilous. (I used to have something similar to this, but left UO for a few years. I'm now rebuilding my thief.)

Magery 120
Stealing 120
Snooping 100
Hiding 100
Stealth 80
Ninja 120
Meditation 50
Focus 20

Note this is 710 total, so I will need no items to get where I want. I plan on picking up a -0 Magery weapon, and Siege Blessing it, of some sort to keep equip while not stealing for defense.

just a suggestion, i would trade the med/focus for either Spellweaving, Resist, Detect Hidden, or Tracking. you could also bump down magery or ninja 5-10 points each to raise that 7th skill.

the reason i say this is because as an SP Thief, you really dont need alot of mana or mana regen. sure its nice, but those points could easily be spent elsewhere. and, if you REALLY wanted them, you could just buy a mana regen suit.

also, dont worry about buying a -0 mage wep, a -21 works out just fine and again, if you REALLY wanted it to be -0, just throw on some +13 magery jewls to make up the difference. -21 weps are alot cheaper to build. i have a nasty wep, but dont end up using it too much (tired of Red Enkil sitting at the bank as a ghost). most of our kills as thieves will result from shurikens, exploding boxes, or your kryss. but our victims are either noobs, afkers, or idiots.

Welcome back to Siege man, let me know if you are interested in joining THIEF
