An old player wants to know if he should return

Hi, everyone. I was a player from 98-03. Long story short: I have not ever again found a place that allows a thief character that was as robust (read: player-stealable) as UO was leading up to the Trammel/Felucca split.

I'd desperately like to play a real thief character again. In reading over the official site's explanation of what a thief can do, I just want to know if it's worth reactivating the account? Since they relegated stealing from innocents to dungeons and lost lands, is there ever a player character mark to be had?

And what other changes (I'm sure there should be some massive ones by now) would I want to know about?

Thanks!

Well are you gonna play a "crate thief" or a "PvP thief"

Crate Thief/Dungeon Thief/Artifact Thief/etc etc = stealing artifacts off the ground/walls of Doom, Fan Dancer Dojo, Mines, and the new SA dungeon (need at least 100 stealing which you will fail A LOT with... 120 is optimal)

PvP Thief = stealing anything uninsured that isn't a backpack in fel... which isn't a whole lot anymore :( I still enjoy it and that's what I do unless I see something in Doom whilst running to the gauntlet...

If you're looking to play a thief that can steal from others backpacks your best bet is Siege. No item insurance and very few blessed items there. That's not to say there are no marks on the other shards. They're just harder to come by these days. Most items of value are usually insured.

However, as Fingers mentioned there are plenty of good items to be had if you want to steal them from dungeons. Thieves need some love. AOS damn near killed them, they keep throwing bones in the way of stealable rares, but its not the same as it used to be.

Come to Siege, best shard to play a thief. I came here from prodo a few months ago to do some thieving, I have never looked back. It is more difficult to find people on Siege, but when you do, you dont have to worry about insurance.
