I just re-joined today after a few years off and I was wondering what the average amount of gold is now days? I am on Atlantic.

There is no average, really.
Some have hundreds of thousands, some tens of thousands, some millions, a select few have billions.
The real issue is, do you have enough for your needs.
And needs vary.

It varies, gold gets more and more common the longer the game runs (not many gold sinks). Things will probably seem more expensive after acouple years away. I have around 3 mil atm but that pennies compared to some who are sittin pretty on a stack of 100mil+... but they either do some pretty lucrative business or never spend a cent.

Last time I checked on Atlantic about a year and half ago. The various merchants have a average of 100mil-20bil range, The PVP players who corner champ spawns are from 400mil-5bil range, the rare hunters and traders range from 1bil to 50bil range, The event traders range from 50mil- 5bil, realstate players were as high as rare traders but not anymore that side of market droped of except some choice plots that are cash only.
The role players usualy range from 0 gold to 10mil as material items are not important. Auction house owners can be group in merchants. PVM players are around 5mil-20mil range as the items that are gatheres are worth very little except for special drops so they can sell those in burst, Plant-growers-fishers-other misc things type players are 10mil max, Miners/lumberers leather gatherers were high up there but last year when I checked they not doing well because of obvious non need of rare materials so 20mil-200mil is average.
PVP players that have no control and just pvp average gold is not much as all the gold they have is usually placed on equipment. So it was 1-30mil at hand anytime. Token traders are in the 500mil-10bil range. Cross shard traders not sure didn't get accurate count on that but they are assumed to be as much as rare traders.
Anyway this is for atlantic only not sure of the other shards. So average gold between player in atlantic should be 300mil. Not counting newbies and return players as there average gold count is at 1-5mil without help there is only so much they can sell to others these days to make gold as everything is easy to get for us vets on our own.

How much is 50 billion UO gold in USD, based on current market exchange rates? The conversion rate will help people to understand the scale of currencies better.
Gold is hard to store. I try to buy things that hold value and can be easily sold for gold if needed.
I prefer to buy transfer tokens for 15-17mil each as they only take 1 lockdown to store and you can unload easily.
Impossible to judge, but if i had to guess, the "average established active player" by that i mean has been in game for at least a few years, and is currently playing at least a few time a week to everyday should have at least around 500 mil "net worth," meaning including worth of items.
Its so much easier to make gold in todays game than it used to be. an average "fighter" character can make a couple million gold an hour just collecting essences / ingredients in the abyss mini spawns.
Crafting has become much less profitable, but a 120 artificer makes a pretty steady income.
Do champs, get lucky at events, or buy / sell and your gold skyrockets.

Now, since cheques are for a max of 1 million, 20 billions means 20,000 cheques.......
That is a LOT of storage space..........
they keep it on vendors popps ...... or like a guy on one of the asian shards has 2 house plots with just stacks of gold checks on it.....

There are some super-rich @#$holes but the average Joe on the street seems to have a few million maybe. Maybe low double-digits.

I can tell you that what is bring said about making gold...100% true.
I left to play Siege for 4 years, I came back to Atl 4 months ago and made a sampire.
I farm essences 3 or 4 times a week for around 1 hour and have over 400 million already.
If you need gold...go read up on Sampires in the warriors forum and let the $ roll in!

I have all my chars geared up and power scrolled up and have around 600mil in gold on Atlantic. I think the easiest way to make gold is just doing events, almost any event item you get is worth it and I have seen people get items worth 10-800mil just doing 1 event.

Without going by the sites as they always higher in the gold ranges. If you go by average player to player exchange rate I have seen 20-50 cent a mil for production on average. Higher than that is definetely possible but harder to get rid of.
At the end it depends on the patience a seller has. Get rid of it quick at low ammounts or take there time at higher amounts. So at .50c a mil that would be 25k and at .25c 12.5k. The problem is getting rid of it.
If I were going to be jealous, I'd be jealous of rich WoW @#$holes whose gold is worth more than fifteen cents per trillion.

For the first time in a long time I have one character whose bank account is approaching 1 million gold. The other 6 have between 50 and 300 k in the bank. It's due to the changes in fishing and treasure hunting.
