Accounts security : why not use electronic keys code generators ?

They should have a way that you can change your username, password and place a digit or a key log code into my accounts.

It could ask you to verify the changes by email, only accept current card that is being used to pay so only card holders could use this system.

It would then charge you $1.00 for the changes.

They could set it up to allow the user up to a number of uses that they can decide on.

So, if you want to put it on your hard drive and on a USB you choose 2 and then log into MY UO and download to where you want the key logger.

In my case I would need 4 because I use 4 computers and maybe 1 for a USB.

They could charge for each use, so this would cost me $5.00.

I don't see it really adding to log in time or taking alot of code to develop but I would like to be able to have the extra security and be able to change my username, password and email account and having to use the current card also helps protect the user and turns it into a federal case if it's tampered with.

Those are things that you would expect to see normally in any kind of contract where you pay real money there should be a type of security that protects you from any types of attack.

It's like saying we don't need to have 6 sides of it on a safe because only a few people will figure it out.

You have to remember kids use computers and there should be ways to protect us from our own children. I have heard stories of people having their characters deleted because their kids could do it by simply clicking a button.

They also visit sites and download things that even though it's on a different system can be brought right into your network. I've had to restore my 14 year olds computer 6 times due to very viscious and what I would consider extreme attacks. Thankfully they were not UO Hackers.

Please note, it isn't mandatory for wow, and it wouldn't be for UO either.

Android/Iphone app is low cost, just develop the program.

Charge for the tangible authenticator keychain. I think WoW charges 6 bucks?

Hell, do a booster pack with the benefit of getting an authenticator.

I hate to burst your bubble, the WOW 2 factor authenticator has been comprised on a number of occasions and would not solve the problem.

2 factor authentication is not the answer and will never be. Problem is not the UO login process, the problem is peoples PC being infected or having poor account security.

Anyway, you sound like an Information Security expert, so I better shut up as I clearly do not know what I talking about.

Well, people who play WoW....play WoW. Which I personally thought was one of the worst games I had ever played. UO is in no way comparable to WoW, so why is everyone trying to compare them?

I don't know of a single WoW user that uses this system, so its likely a much smaller number. Also unlike UO, WoW doesn't have time critical logins, so it matters a lot less if login takes a little longer.

The number of authenticator users for WOW is at least in the hundreds of thousands. For the first year or so they couldn't make enough authenticators to keep up with demand.

As for slowing down the login process, you press a button and type in a code. If you practice it would likely only add 2 or 3 seconds. It is up to you whether you want the added security.

Some banks, for online banking, alongside with internet login and passwords, also provide an electronic device which generates unique additional codes (single use per code generated) needed to log in.

Unless someone enters the right unique code, after a few mistakes the account locks, for safety.

Now, why don't game makers for online games use the same system ?

It would make it almost impossible for anyone to log into a game account without having this electronic unique code generator.

It could be included with the game box or mailed to players upon providing the proper account original registration code.

Just a thought......
