Accessing the hold on a captured ship

Is it possible to access the cargo hold of a merchant NPC ship after it has been captured and scuttled? I looted the deck crates and when I moused over the hold it showed it contained 10 items. I received a "no permission to access this" error when I tried to open it.

Is there a way to get in there?

Yes and Why do My captured pirates disappear before i have time to get back to the Dock?!

The pirate issue should be fixed in the morning publish.

I really want to know what is in those holds.
