Now, let Tigs have his moment of fleeting awe - it certainly doesn't detract from your complex - hmm, I think I shall end the sentence there.

This has my vote for best thread of the month.

Has anyone noticed how creepy it is in that movie that Charlie works his ass off, laboring after school only to earn money so that weirdo grandpa can have his drugs (in the form of tobacco)?!?

The best moment of all is when the little guy tries do to a few carwheels at the end of an oompa loompa song (I believe it's the verse done before Mike T.V. gets reduced in size), and fails miserabley, barely getting his feet of the floor in his last attempt. I've seen it over fifty times and that always makes me chuckle. What a pathetic attempt at gymnastics.

I never could get the hang of doing cartwheels. :-(

I've had to settle for jumping up and down with great enthusiasm, instead.

It's from a childrens book my German grandmother used to read to me all the time, as parents read it to her in pre-WW2 germany. Der Struwwelpeter. In the story I got my avatar from, sweet little Paulinechen wants to play with matches. Bother her mother AND nurse have told her not to, but being the disobedient little snot she is, she lights them anyway. Her cats even warn her not to do it, but she's on a mission. She catches on fire, the cats cry, and she burns to ashes. Before Maligor was nice enought to make my current signature for me, I used another illustration from the book as my signature for several years. It was from the story of the little boy who's told by his mother NOT to suck his thumbs while she is away. Of course the moment she is gone, he shoves them in his mouth like nasty little fiender he is. And then the giant scissor man runs into the house and lops them off, AS HE SHOULD!

This is the large version of the image I used for a sig and a link to the story it came from (in English!) http://www.fln.vcu.edu/struwwel/daumen_e.html

and a bigger version of my avatar and link to English version : http://www.fln.vcu.edu/struwwel/pauline_e.html

Table of Contents, if you want to take it all in..slowly..

There's nothing quite like German childrens literature. Don't even get me started on the twisted fun that is Max und Moritz.

Though I'm sure that you, unlike our little friend, realize your lack of cartwheeling ability, and don't do them before a camera for money! =P

WHen I was younger I had a friend who lived next door to one of the actors that played an oompa loompa. Apparently he rode around on a small motorcycle, and eventually died in a crash while on it.

If there was such a thing as thread of the month. Tigs would get my vote for this one. I only say that because the ego swell would probably make his head explode.

Considering he must have a tiny head (have you ever seen an elf with a large head?) that might be a good thing. Might be.

*chuckles* One day, we will meet on the field of battle. I concede this thread to you. I wish all moderators had an adversary like you. One day soon we will meet here and see how much bandwidth we can eat up. It will be ugly.

Really, the best part of that story is that aside from the shotgun, the rabbit has to steal the glasses too. And he wears them. THe shotgun was not enough. THe illustration is ridiculous. Now I am lol as well.

I must find a max und moritz online to share.

[EDIT: Didn't have to go far, there is a version on the same website! http://www.fln.vcu.edu/mm/mmmenu.html ]

One of the scariest images of my childhood came from the Max und Moritz book

He has nothing on this guy...

He kills the bird, throws the kitten down the stairs (and apparently bashes it with a rock) and whips his "good nurse". He also rips the wings off of flies for fun.

Later he tries to whip his dog, but the dog outsmarts him, takes the whip and bites him. He later becomes sick and has to stay in bed and take grody medicine while the dog chows down on soup and sausages.
