What do you think is comming in the future, maybe also a dev can give a sneak preview, a little comment, a rumor...

What can be the next booster? High Seas is out last town hall Cal said every half year, iam excited to hear what comes next?

A Warehouse, a charactercopy to Test Center... Magincia rebuild...

i believe there are rumors of future boosters (every 6 months was what i remember). i heard rumors of even a factions booster? who knows if anything holds true, but i too would like to see a developer response to this as things are starting to get stale.

i'd personally like to see them do away with unnecessary land mass (ilshenar) and add more to the current and old mapping (such as they did with this high seas booster). magincia definitely seems like a good candidate for this.

one thing is for sure, the recent patches seem to have to do a lot with bug fixes and things of that nature, so i'm all for that. hopefully we will see something by spring? maybe summer?

I am guessing.

1. A PvP Factions revamp
2. Maybe a Classic Shard
3. No more speedhacking and 3rd party programs
4. Rebuilding Magincia.

Oh wait... Thats was last years "State of the Game" :thumbup1:

Although I support the idea of a classic shard, it wouldn't really be "classic" without Lord British. I honestly don't think it will happen.

I've pretty much given up trying to predict the future, but considering the low population on most shards, I'm getting a tad superstitious about what might happen in 2012... :sad3:

dye tubs for new pets.

An awesome dungeon that has purpose but then they decided to allow you to acquire the items in the dungeons in other ways.

More housing tiles.

6 quests that can be done in a day.

50 new craftables that will flood the market and have no use in 2 weeks.

1 new monster.

The middle of January was three weeks ago.

Whatever is forthcoming SHOULD be important, but I'm betting it isn't.

As an aside, there was no reason for Cal having to make a video. He could have spent one measly hour churning out something on the keyboard. Or dictate it to someone. Due to that, I'm going for 'smoke and mirrors' to bide himself some time.

Feel free to think more positive. History is pretty much on my side, though. The whole schtick is smoke and mirrors, and it gets so very, very tiresome... especially for those of us who see past the BS.

X2

And people call me mean when I repeatedly call Cal on his crap.

The end of the year had come and gone. Mid-January has come and gone. The ridiculous "outtake" from the phantom video only shows a severe lack of professionalism, 'funny' as it may be.

Whatever he has to say will not be worth the wait. The carrot rotted off the string months ago, only the die-hard delusionals refuse to see that.

Doesn't have to be next released but I'd like:

High Seas Booster 2: Pirates on Monkey Island

Players must complete quests to become True Pirates, after which they can complete quests to locate the secretive Monkey Island and in exchange for assisting the monkey inhabitants in their battle against various island meanies like giant cobras and deadly spiders, the Pirate is matched to a monkey companion, who can help man the pirate's cannons after proper training.

Monkey companions come in many different colors and shapes similar to the various small breeds of monkeys of the world, and have slight variations in strength and dexterity and intelligence.

Only a player who has completed the True Pirate Quest is eligible to complete a quest to locate Monkey Island and to eventually acquire a monkey companion.

Only one stage of each quest can be completed per day, so players can not acquire a monkey companion for several weeks or more after the booster is released.

Rewards for completing the various smaller quests along the way to obtaining a monkey companion would be pirate related: peg legs, eye patches, outlandish pirate hats, pet parrot who can sit on the pirates shoulder and with training and on command can light cannons for the pirate, hook hand glove, pirate titles.

Anyone who played Ogre Battle on the Super Nintendo would remember that at the beginning of the game the player answers some random questions about themselves, I'd like some version of that be applied to the player being matched to a monkey companion.

The answers to the questions would help determine the monkey companions stats and appearance.

I thought I was one of very few who had played through that game. Glad to know I'm not alone. haha :)

Great game BTW. I still play through it from time to time.

Yes definitely one of my favorites, though the fine details are a bit hazy nowadays.

:)

I do remember my shock at the end of the game though, after killing many 'bad guys' along the way, the game informed me that I was just as horrible a leader as the enemy one I'd just dispatched.

Ouch!

LOL!

The balance between good/evil based on the chosen paths is what made the game interesting for me, and recruiting all of the bad ass knights along the way was a close second. Also, the secondary quests and storyline around the zodiac stones was very cool. :)

(Sorry to thread jack... I'll stop)

I've got it on an snes emulator on my comp now but without instructions, so I don't remember what I'm supposed to do to play it properly. Maybe I will do a google search for them.

The Rares Community will be zilch, thanks to Mesanna and her hoard of Minions.

I for one will gladly give up the 3 people who run the "Rares" community in UO for 300,000 new players who sub to UO knowing they have an equal chance to acquire any item in the game BY PLAYING THE GAME.

I fail to understand what positive impact the "rares community" even brings to the game from an economy perspective?

They find an item and hold it, and then turn around and sell the same item for more money at a later date which in turn fuels inflation.

I say good riddance.

I think Picus described it best at one point:

It's such a small circle of people who are in that upper range of the money's in rareville that here was a chance to show thier collective uppercrusting ways....

....that section of the forum is so selective in whom they let in it is almost like the "I'd never be a member of a club that would let me join".
Group of elitist that are more manipulative towards people by appearing to be morale players. Think again.

Enjoyment can come from tourmenting those that deserve it.

300,000? Are you mad? One big reason why UO will NEVER see 300,000 subscribers again: No (young) in 2011 wants to pay $12 a month for a game that is NOT 3 dimensional. It's the reason why we have a population of ~50,000 today!

Even if it goes free, there are already too many 3 dimensional games that are free. Face it, UO has the best Progress System in the area of Skillset, it still has the best PvP system, and even ranks as the oldest MMO to date. The graphics however are the first thing a newcomer sees when browsing games, and UO stacked against the likes of....everything else is an easy choice. The other game.

My rares however I am sure will outlive your own stay in UO. Goodluck.

Nothing is sure I don't think...

There are many reasons why UO won't ever see 300k subscribers UNLESS a miracle happens, among them of course is lack of advertising by EA, age of the game (actual game play says that age is just a number), and the fact that a new player would have to PAY CASH to another player or website in real life to obtain certain in game items that ARE NO LONGER OBTAINABLE THROUGH NORMAL GAME PLAY.

I have been reading the WoW forums lately and a new game called Rift was mentioned, so I did what most gamers do when they hear about a new game, I went to Rift's website and read the forums.

A new player will probably do the same if they were interested in Ultima Online.

They might type Ultima Online into their search bar and see a range of 3rd party websites appear that offer such things as Luna city vendor homes for a mere $1200 (the price one sold for on Pac a year or two ago).

That alone would be enough to put off most players would want a game that is a challenge to their mind, but not to their bank account.

They then proceed on to Stratics here and read about, oh let's say, a super rare ethereal suit, and learn that it is no longer obtainable through normal game play, and really, why should they go any further?

"My rares however I am sure will outlive your own stay in UO. Goodluck."

Oh, I'm quite sure that you and your 'Rares' will be the last things on UO when EA finally pulls the plug, much like cockroaches will be the sole survivors of a nuclear war.

Just remember that when the game goes poof because no one wants to play it and be inferior to you and your 'rares', your rares will go poof also.

But hopefully you can sell them for fi dollah cash before that, eh?

Have to agree that this is the most likely scenario. Drag another month's subscription out of them before releasing unsatisfying video.

Anyone who played Ogre Battle on the Super Nintendo......
Play a real RPG for SNES like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger or Earthbound.

Not to mention the grand daddy of 'em all: Final Fantasy III.

I did play some Earthbound and remember Threed the town name? I think.

:)

And we played some of the Final Fantasys, I think our favorite scene from one of them was the opera that went "Oh, Maria..."

I also notice some super nintendo games like earthbound sell well on Ebay still.

Too bad we rented that one.

Dofus's playerbase disagrees. 2D cant still match 3d, was only a couple of years back, when WoW was peakin, Dofus had 500k players. Cheating was absolutely rife in Dofus though, I mean you could stand in a town and see strings of 10-20 obvious bots running about. Even with regular purges, they couldnt get on top of it. It is however an incredibly pretty 2D game. Its crisp and clean and tidy looking. Unlike UO's pixelated rubbish.

The only thing holding UO back, is unfortunately its players, and their grip to classic client IMHO.

I would disagree with this statement.

I think if most were to narrow down what is "holding UO back" it would be EA/Mythic/Bioware and the decisions they have and have not made over time.

Hahah --- I always remember the first four towns in Earthbound:

Onett
Twoson
Threed
Fourside

That's why I've always held onto mine....I have every NES and SNES RPG with box and manual....as nerdy as it is....i'm sure it will be worth something one day. The replay value on some of those games are ridiculous.

I really hope in something like a cataclysm to justify the drop of unused areas, and a revamp of old places.

We don't need more empty places.

More useless items.

More neon dyes.

We need again a LIVING world.

Or they found a way of merging shards, or they have to reduce the available areas.

It won't bring UO back at the goden times, but will surely improve the feeling of a living world and will keep us traveling again the places we no longer visit.

I bet you're a hot McSmartyPants! :thumbup1:

*Searches forums for pics*

Oh I see you are a UO Rares collector who hasn't graduated from the 3rd grade yet.

What are you? Eight years old?

Aren't you too young to play UO?

It IS rated ages 14 and up.

:)

But let me play your game for a sec.

I am happy enough with how I look to post a real pic of the real me. There's plenty of people here who aren't happy with how they look so they post fake pics.

I've not seen the real you but then I don't need to since I already know that you don't look like Kai from Lexx:

YouTube - LEXX-Alive but dead

I don't need to see a pic of you because I can read here that you are ugly on the inside.

Your pixel rares mean more to you than the pixel world that they live in, tsssk tsssk, how unfortunate. So long as you get to keep your rares, let UO die.

Sorry, that kind of selfishness is never pretty.

:)

Ok, I'm climb on back up to my level now, but you have fun down there at yours.

:)

PS: Another way that WoW is better than UO, its community.

Reading the WoW forums the other day there was a real pics thread, where it was ordered that there would be no rudeness.

And there wasn't.

But then Blizzard doesn't go the cheap route for it's forums.

You know one thing I considered was to log into WoW every month or so ....... and then in some big chat somewhere go.... Wow...... this game sucks! I'm going back to UO...

hehe free advertising on a global scale.... I don't know.

Anyway... as far as the future goes.... my guess is not too bright.

Rares? Give me a break. Ok so many things are "rare" because of the tag. Or the color of an item. Big deal. I think we should be given more "rare" cool things when we get gifts like for Xmas... kinda like the different shaped rarer icy patch..... that was cool and a nifty bonus. The Rarer cool presents with the multicolors on them.... those are nice.

But as far as EM events go.... I would much prefer if most the things given out were the "double click the statue" variety where everyone that participated gets something to take home to say "I was there"..... Sure I like knowing that some of the items I have gotten from the events are 1 of only 10.... but really...... I am more sad about working really hard at an event only to watch some Xshard jerkoff take 9 out of 10 of the items and xshard them. Especially when those same folk only show up when there is going to be something dropping..... and don't give one darn about the event only about gold. Those of us who follow the RP and event are left with nothing...

And as for things coming .... I am waiting to find out about Magincia..... do I think it's going to be sometime soon... No.....

I think Magincia's rebuilding should be in some way related to how the shard did with defending against Virtuebane. Those who did a good job should get a better reward... those who let Virtuebane take over shouldn't get squat... in-fact it would be good if Virtuebane took over Magincia on those shards... and it was left in ruin.

But that's my opinion.

I'd also like to see something else..... a Dungeon type "shard"... Something that is accessible from ALL the Shards... and is somewhat like a big maze of a dungeon with cool things you can get as well as neat rewards and things..... but has FEL rules... no housing, no banking, no vendors, and also no insurance and you can't take blessed items there, where even checks are NOT blessed. One massive dungeon that is a maze... and where you are randomly dropped into it so folk couldn't stand there and kill everyone entering.... because you really wouldn't know where folk were going to enter from. So people from GL's could fight folk from Atlantic or Sonoma or even Siege there. If you were really good you could get all the things you need like reagents, bandages, bolts, arrows or whatever from the monsters or other players there. I was thinking that getting there would be somewhat like the Prism of Light...... by ticket... (the one and only blessed item allowed) Click your ticket to leave but it'd take a few min to go. Or you are tossed back to your shard when your time runs out.

Sure you could xshard trade things by going there.... but.... it would be dangerous.

Those are my thoughts.
