Actually, they aren't. I just went there to make copies for myself and they are the small red books you get when you create a character. The books also have blank pages all the way to page 20 (some go to 40 - I think those are the old newbie books.) NPC books stop at the end of the "story."

But this library is AWESOME! :) Well worth the trip!

I was confused by the bags above being the same but they are not - there are two different bags and each one only contains 1 red book - the ones in question. In the screenshots above they were highlighted so it was really hard to tell.

Also even more unfortunately, I tried and cannot copy locked down books :(

I'm back in the game!

The mystery continues...

But if shifting the text down a couple of lines makes the cypher work why not go with it and see if it continues to make sense?
It does make sense if that is the case. What's intriguing is further possibilities based on this. I've spotted things in these books and the world that could lead this on. Or not. It's all very much up in the air, even if the letters do fall into place. It could still be a coincidence. A big one, but still...

I will follow up on it, but it's a long and tough road. I just wish that I had this part concluded, because it adds so much weight to it all. It's the foundation along the lines that I'm thinking.

Thank you.

So, still hope. Because a complete set of blue books indicates that it's more likely they were simply copied from Stratics. Why copy them if you bought them, and if you are going to copy them why go to the trouble of searching for the right books instead of just using Stratics? Unless that person was like me and a stickler for the correctness of it all, of course. But we just don't know that.

Still need that book, "Classic Children Tales: Volume One".
Are you certain the stealable blue books are player copied? Sorry to digress, but I'm not certain about the blue books being copied

The reason I ask is because I have been collecting books and thought they changed the spawn, but maybe I am wrong...I have newly collected the following in the last couple years and they are blue:
Lord British is Lost 1-2 by Remoh
Smaed's Story Vol. 1-10 by Smaed Fretting
Ricardo's Trial: Part 1-3, 5-6 by Lilian the Clerk

I think these are non-stolen books that are blue
The Prisoner's Journal (blessed) by Derek
Order of Dragonfish Handbook, part 1 by Cpt. Piddlewash (fishing quest if I remember right)

Well, blue books (and the counterpart, the red books) are the ones you can buy and write into. They also have been used by GMs and EMs over the years to make books for story and events. So there are many that were made by GMs/EMs over the years.

This opposed to the Tan and Brown books that could never be written into. These books just don't have that feature. They are the ones that hold the original stories, and you can buy or are stealable from bookcases. The only exception here are the 3 books added later...
Quest of the Virtues, by Autenil (Volume 1)
Quest of the Virtues, by Autenil (Volume 2)
The Shattering, by Nystul
These three are available the same way, could never be written into, but at least The Shattering was available on a spawn in an event.

But the point is that the Tan and Brown books with the stories in, they are a specific set of original stories, with the 3 exceptions that were added. You won't find them anywhere with anything but those stories in, and they are never made (or copied to) by players.

That's why I need to see these 2 stories in these books, not blue or red books. Because that's the only way I can be sure they are "official" and not altered in any way.

A good story, even by a player, is never a waste of course.
Some of those could be EM books from official EM events. They may have meaning, and there's nothing stopping an EM from going back and using an old book for a new event.
And keep in mind that players can use red leaves to lock a book, so it can't be written in or changed (just in case you didn't know that).

Books in UO are a blessing. I don't know of any other game that has them, and the "most anticipated" game coming (by many accounts), Archeage, will have them as well as housing like UO. They are going to expand and include chopping down trees (actually having it fall over), and crops that grow in stages out of the ground. These things are highly desired even moreso for the "casual" (read that as simply not the hardcore gamer). Other companies, like Archeage, bluntly state they are going after that UO experience. However, they may not get the whole level grind thing, just sayin'. The point is that UO led everyone into this MMO thing, and is still (even after WoW) the one game that everyone looks at for true insight. WoW was a great success for other reasons, but as a template has proven to be the wrong choice for the future.

hmm this has given me the idea to go out and collect the books for my muesum and have gotten all in the little red book style besides the classic children 1 and the Orc Phonemes book.

I tought they simply didn't exist.. I stole so many books when the game went live, and I have never seen them !

I will check on Hallister's library, he would have probably contributed if he wasn't so busy torturing Elves for pleasure...

Trebr, have you glanced in any of the books from Percolem and Axem, especially the ones in what I assume is the gargoyle language? Even if they have no bearing on your current research, it may be interesting to get up to speed on them in preparation for upcoming events. Remember, Cal's announcement from May 6th said, "...the fiction and event timeline for the history of Ter Mur is almost through development approval. We are really excited to reveal the origins of Zhah … and to fill out some of the new areas in Ter Mur."

Glad to hear that the library was helpful. This library is mirrored at the Dawn Malas Outpost and Book Library located just west of Umbra. It is the second buildings west of Umbra on the north side of the road.

Yes, I always wanted to get into those. They are from the Ultima games, and wouldn't it be wild if they put stuff in there about the Ultima lore, and wilder if they have stuff in there about where they were going to take Ultima as an online game? I know they had at least a glimmer of an idea that some day a UO was going to be possible, way back then.
But it's really unlikely....still, you have to wonder sometimes.

I'd like to point out as I did a little while ago. In the UO beta storyline, Chuckles heard voices and ended up causing the death of the Beta Lord British before their world was taken by the Guardian through the Shadowlords. And not long ago, we heard voices in UO, but succeeded in defeating the Shadowlords here (although they were merely projections of some sort).
