A question out of curiosity....

As a returning player and rp'er,I have been digging into the fictonal history of UO for ideas for themes. One question came to mind that I want to ask those that may know.

Is there any recorded UO history that predates the fall of Mondain? What was Sosaria(before it was Brittania) like when this wizard ruled? Where there towns? Those kind of questions came to mind when digging into the UO fictonal history. Can anyone direct me to any pre-lord british UO history(if it even exsists)?

My understanding is that the first "ultima" game could be considered to be Alakabeth, which Richard Garriot programmed when he was either in high school or first years of college. It uses some of the same names, but that is about it. It was, by necessity, a pretty simple dungeon crawler, but apparently pretty good for its time.

Officially, none that I know of other that the story of Mondain and his father.

As far as during Mondain's time, that is pretty much laid out in Ultima I. There were many towns, and the lands ruled by LB were just one of four continents. The world was not shaped like the "modern" Brit landmass, which was established in U4. My understanding is that this is explained by the events in U3 including the destruction of Exodus. We can assume the world of Mondain was much like Earth, in the fact that what physical laws were seen in the game are like ours ( space travel requires a vehicle capable of overcoming gravity ), and the world can be circumnavigated, which the simplest explanation for would suggest it is a sphere. One can presume that the world maintained contact with other planes/timelines or had a previously existing culture that had faded away, because technologies existed that do not occur post U2.
