A Missing Piece of Realism

In the early days of UO I thought that mages should have a reagents pouch that would go in the apron slot. Of course the idea sprang from the shaman's 'medicine bag' in RL and similar literary accessories.

After the advent of LRC armor in UO I cooled on the idea a bit but friends have said I should post about it. The pouches would work like quivers except they would hold only reagents. There would be both craftable and artifact varieties offering weight reduction among other qualities. And, of course, they would be insurable. Thses bags would fit in the apron slot and appear as a pouch on the hip.

It's not a bad idea. Archers can have their arrows in blessed or insured quivers, why not reagents? And it would make no LRC suits more viable.

As far as my personal experience, ONE person I know in game actually uses reagents...

It might actually work, and have a revitalized interest in people carrying them. I personally would never go back to it, but I support your idea. :thumbup1:

I'm fine with the idea, but should words "mages" and "realism" be used in the same sentence?

You're not the first to post this idea, but I'm still in favor of it.

Agreed... I like the idea... Though with the Tangle .. It's doubtful too many mages would give that up to have a pouch... but it could happen.

I agree with what you are saying Galen, but come on how many people are going to go back to carrying regs, I mean cast free spells all day long? vs pay gold to carry around spell components that will run out.

Then again I don't see it taking much to implement so I don't see what it could really hurt.

As far as mages and realism I have a toon named Marie Laveau the celebrated witch queen. King Soloman was purportedly a necromancer. The North American medicine men carried their herbs in a pouch. Warriors from different parts of the world carried healing or magical herbs in a pouch.

As far as whether people might use them or not how about the sampire? I know a sampy that complains bitterly when his regs get looted. So there might be a sampy or necro specific bag.

To me it seems more true to the literary and historical mages and magic than an apron. Where did that come from?

Not particularly realism... but I wouldn't mind it coming into the game if there were a strong benefit to using reagents over LRC.

For instance, 10 or 25% DI and duration if you use pure reagents.

And if the bags could have a few mage properties to make them useful in that regard too.

25% DI and duration -- and the chance of the bags having magery, necro, mysticism, and spellweaving type properties would make them very desirable for true mages.

Of course the devs could annoy crafters by having LRC be the predominate property to come up (making the bag property useless and potentially a problem.)
