A little about AO and MYTH - by Hattori Hanzo, Guild Leader

I wish to present a little insight into current MYTH / AO leadership and direction.

As most people who have been on Siege Perilous for more than 8 or 9 months know, a really great guy named Cliff was the guild leader of the Guardians of Myth (MYTH) and the Ancient Order of Myth (AO). The first being a non-faction guild and the latter a faction guild.

Cliff sadly passed away suddenly late last spring. When he died, the guilds were directionless. None of us really knew what to do with them. Kat offered to take the whole slew of us into TNA / TNT and that would have been a great option. After we had a memorial service (which most of the people who read this probably attended) we held a guild meeting, in my newly placed house south of Umbra.

It was important what happened to MYTH / AO since MYTH held the leadership of the Circle of Flame alliance. More importantly, there was a great desire to carry on what cliff (Aeric Horn, et.al.) had created. So, during the meeting, I (Hattori Hanzo) was elected guild leader of the two guilds.

Taking over the guilds was a task. It requires a two-thirds vote by membership and many of the characters in the guilds were alts of Aeric Horn (Ginsu, et.al.). In fact I did not even have a non-faction character to be in MYTH, so I had to create one.

Within about three weeks, we had the guild leadership secured. Members offered to take on various responsibilities and we began our effort to rebuild. I say rebuild, because we also lost with Aeric, all of the property belonging to the guilds; real estate, gold, equipment, etc. We had the guild names and a leadership hierarchy built, but we lacked much of what a guild needs to survive.

What helped immensely through all this was that these guilds were part of an alliance that was really a family. The Circle of the Flame is more like a big guild than an alliance. Without the support of everyone in the alliance at the time, TNA, TNT, and DR, we would probably not have survived. In fact, these guilds lost as much as we in MYTH / AO did when Cliff died (there were many people not in the alliance felt a great loss as well). They just did not have to shoulder the burden of trying to make Aeric Horn proud.

We wanted to preserve the heritage of the guild and have done so. I personally take responsibility for anything that happens within my guilds. I made two bad recruiting decisions and had to boot players involved in unscrupulous acts.

The current membership of MYTH / AO are fine people who are in game to have fun, but also belong to these guilds for reasons we discuss among our close family. Primary among the reasons is the desire to be part of a close family, with a large extended family, to have fun, and to play fair.

These were the things Aeric Horn passed to me when he recruited me for his guild. I know I have them right because he told me so shortly before he died.
Decisions on the general play rules are made individually, but everyone knows that what they do reflects on the guilds. The following are basic guidelines:

- We don’t have any specific rules against PKing (other than against blameless NEW membership).

- Our rules on looting are that we remain honorable (this means some people deserve to be looted to the max and others don’t). In combat some looting is vital.

- We should not frivolously rez kill. I.e., rez kills are needed in combat to prevent someone being right back into battle before we can loot some thing like their arrows. I don’t expect my guild members to rez someone personally and then kill them for pleasure.

- We don’t use exploits or cheats.

Do these rules occasionally get broken? Of course. What do I do about it? If someone does something that is unscrupulous or really mean, taking the fun out of the game for a player against whom we have no grudge for a prior horrible act, I will boot the player. If it is something minor, I will call the person to task in game, in a way that is fitting.

Are these rules vague? Yes. Do my guild mates know where the line really is? Yes. If you were in MYTH you would understand (as most of you already do). Ours are not that much different than the rules most guild live by. We are however, different in our spirit in ways you would need to be part of us to understand.

I have no input on what someone pastes on the Stratics boards. These forums are RL and don’t fall within the control of a guild leader IMHO. The boards are properly moderated as they are.

Ultimately, I think about Aeric often when making decisions regarding the guilds. However, I am confident we are living by his precepts because he personally recruited me not long before he died. He told me he wanted me in his guild because my reputation indicated I was his kind of player. Now I seek to be his kind of guild leader. Where I fail, I try to correct. Where I do well, it is normally because of the wonderful people assembled in my midst.

We are currently reorganizing our guild house and supply houses as we reacquired some of our real estate. We are also about to attempt our first major new player induction ceremony. Finally, I am nearly done writing the next chapter of Aeric Horn’s story, keeping a promise I made Queen Zen, Devon, and Nuriko months ago.

We are also having a great time playing this rather odd little game.

Anyone who questions who the wonderful people are I might be talking about can go here and here to see. I respect each and every one of them. They are my family in this game. I know that is how Aeric would have wanted it!

Even though you did not have to say a word about this matter, I appreciate what you have done. You know how we all feel. You are a leader, Sir. I would follow you into hell and loot the brimestone. *bows*

Some of you may find this to be bs, and others will probably think it's a joke or something, but what I a saying is the best truth I know.....

Like a few weeks or maybe even less before Ginsu (only char I knew of his) passed, he sends me an icq telling me that he moved or something (forget), and now lives in my town, so he then proceeds with talking to me, and we mention perhaps maybe hooking up one day for a few laughs (i know it seems strange, I was blown away too).

Now my first thought was, hmm... ok he wants to become my friend so I would stop chasing him on a daily basis, trying to get his craftables. This guy is the only crafter that survived 48 times out of the 50 times I've chased him down. Only falling twice. I grew obcessed (spelling) with trying to kill him for the simple fact that I never hardly could get him. I even went as far as setting the alarm on my cell phone once to try to get him during his early morning rounds.

But after hearing that he had passed, I never again thought he wanted to make friends in order to get me to stop attacking him. I mean it was more than just in game, we even had plenty of battles on stratics and other forums too. I was his personal stalker! Don't get me wrong, I aint getting soft and [censored], it just seem to me now, that when he offered his friendship, that it was bigger than having peace in game from my aggressive attacks. I felt really weird that I had never noticed in all these years what a nice guy he was, cause I could never see past my own ego and trying to save face in all our many many disagreements.

I honestly believe (rather you guys do or not) that he came to me to make peace, and not to have freedom during his early morning rounds on siege. Ok, I'm done rambling, I'm just sad that I never got the chance to meet him irl like we had planned. it's not everyday your number 1 enemy in game for the past 5 years come to you and offer real life friendship sincerely. Aight I'm done for real, and this doesn't mean that I will show any mercy to COF.

Edit: please forgive my grammar, I am no book writer, and ya have to look closely to understand what I'm saying sometimes. Oh yeah, and my "m" and "V" keys stick a lot too.

I have that apron for ye if ya still want one, ye can stop on by my house to pick it up, or at some town bank area, whichever ya wish.

I can have my bard give it to ye, course she is dead atm, I suicided her, she been dead for days. She is my musical ghost-tourist.

No matter, I always have wandering healers red and blue alike spawn all the time on my front lawn and they are always peeking in my house windows daily
..so she can get alive right quick like, in my own yard, then she/I get ya the half apron.

Hattori - I am sure Cliff is proud and honored by what you have done to rebuild and carry on with Myth.

I have to reinstall UO on my PC, when I do, I would like to donate all of my belongings to Myth before I close my account.

I have an even better idea. Come have some fun with us!

UO/Siege may be lacking all the latest/greatest graphics and eye candy, bells and whistles. It may be ruined, dead, broken, full of bugs and run by a pathetic company who doesn't give a [censored] about it, but I can't think of another game that has all that against it that is STILL THE MOST FUN I've ever found in a game, ****ty Christmas presents and all!

Come join us for a last spin around Siege and have some fun, girl!!

Cliff (Ginsu, Aeric Horn) and I bickered constantly over trivial things. But, we also managed to do a lot together too. We were far to similar in our personalities and goals for our own good. Regardless of our difference in opinions over the years, I'm proud to have always called him one of my closest friends on Siege.

He had very broad visions for his projects. Some people even thought they were unrealistic. You can't give enough credit to somebody who put so much effort in to endeavors that almost always seemed to crash and burn.

I think Cliff would be elated to see that his final and grandest dream in UO has finally succeeded and he'd be very proud of all the members of Myth and AO and the other's in the CoF that supported him and his vision.

From what I have heard, you are doing an excellent job, amid difficult circumstances and a diverse set of people.
Congrats, well done, and keep on doing what you are doing.
Some people will cry no matter what. From where I am standing, individually, you are doing great. Trust your heart and go forward.

I'm not sure I understand your post. If there is a problem, PMing Hattori with details would be the appropriate thing to do.

well define appropriate versus means to effect a change... I don't have any problem with a person discussing the behaviors they dislike in other groups... we bad talk tamers and stealthers all the time, I have a very personal and large dislike of PK'rs ......so let them discuss it..

They can discuss it in another thread, all they want. I feel it would be inappropriate to discuss it in this one, given the topic and nature of some of the discussion.

Mo, just to be clear, is it PK's that smack-talk and dry loot that you don't like, or just ANYONE who kills someone unprovoked? I ask because (when I play) I do PK people, but I do it for 100% RP motivated reasons and I rarely loot anything. I also guard corpses and talk with people once they return, assuming they declined a rez and sought one elsewhere.

you mentioned three rules < sort of rules > and the only one Righty has not
broken with me is the first one...I never belong to NEW. So, he could not
break that one with me. I really not look for trouble with Righty... he just does
not care about rules. Please, do not be surprised that others do not follow
the <sort of rules> you stated. It is nothing new!
