A 'conspiracy theory' for cities

So, now we can :

Access the Town Criers, through the 'Sherry the Mouse' statues.
Deed and redeed commodities with the 1st year vet reward box.
Check bank balances, including cheques, using a house placement tool.
Stable pets via hitching post.

All we need now is the ability to 'phone up' (comm crystal?) NPCs and bulk order materials for delivery to our postboxes, and make repair deeds function at our homes. Then we'd seem to have done away with the need for cities for anything bar RP and socialising.

Is the idea that we'll make the 'core' cities community places where people meet for events, conversation and general chatting - or are there plans to 'Magincia' the lot and start over, with the next expansion being 'UO:Fallout, the post-apocalypse Sosaria'.... :eyes:

I have noticed nobody actually travels, and people started asking for a way to "send" items to other PCs (disgustingly WoW like).
Now I must assume the average UO PC is a fat, lazy guy in Valorite armour. :D

I'd be in favor of expanding and flushing out player towns (complete with all the functions of in-game towns) and nuking every static city in the game. But that's just me.

The cities have been vacant for a long time now with select shops being recalled in and out of. Along with brief bank visits.

I personally wish that towns could be populated with actual people again. One way this could be done is to allow us to rent all the unused houses. This would at least give people another reason to be in town. Perhaps limit renting of buildings to guilds even.

Another way is to allow us to rent space in vendor shops as a kind of sublet. Perhaps controls could be put in place so that weapons/armor/bods are only sold in black smithy shops.

From a visual design perspective the idea of a steam punk post-apocalyptic sosaria sounds awesome. Now that's a game that would be wicked fun to work on! Of course I'm picturing it fully 3D tho...

Surely, our little avatars could play our real lives, while we play UO...
so if they played out our lives as we played out on uo.. would that mean theyd be playing an avatar of our avatar as that one was playing our life playing uo?:wall:

"Pencils and Paychecks" is a popular RPG played by wizards and dragons.

I agree completely. I would LOVE to see all the major towns full of people again. It would resurrect the since of a true MMO in UO, and would give people incentive to travel from town to town, instead of spending all of their time in one town, when they're not hunting/farming. I hate going to Luna, but that's where everyone and their mother is. It shouldn't be like that.

We should come up with a plan to repopulate the towns. The devs should create some sort of incentive for each city, or something.
