About the notes for Pub56!

I don't see anything but Faction candy, Event/Quest/Haloween additions and silly mini-fixes that were funny and not really annoying in their total. And by total I mean 90% of what was fixed(which was not much in terms of quality either).

Combat fixes are ridiculous, there is no mention of anything being rebalanced or attempt to communicate their intentions regarding hot topics regarding PvP especially.

There's even no mention of what's changed graphically for KR, if anything finally got changed as they stated.

I'm waiting to perceive the hidden, silent changes once it is out on normal Shards..
But Devs, if that was it then it really was NOT worth the wait or hype. Having read the P56 contents and the Stygian Abyss info I don't even care what the next 3 patches bring us anymore. If I'm alive until then, they seem dead slow in patching the game.

So I'm just stating my opinion that things are not looking good at all with UO if this all we got for P56, plus what we found out about SA. Not interesting at all..

Apparently, you've been deaf to the pleas of hundreds of miners to get DC ore using garg picks - frankly, we're all jumping for joy at the news (though half of us want DC eles to spawn from it, and the other half don't).

can't please everyone I guess

I read more into it I guess and see more then just faction candy which in all right is well over due.

If you've played for any length of time at all you should of come to the point where you don't expect so much from them then when they do provide something new your not so disappointed. Thing is they've got most of you spoiled, no matter how much they give you it's never enuff. Be greatful they are even continueing to produce new content for an 11yr old game. For anything that has ties to EA this is a great accomplishment.

I think the faction changes are a bulk of the work behind the patch. I'd imagine it takes a lot of work and testing to build a system where holding a town in factions triggers an invasion.

Also, remember that we only get stuff in our patches if the devs think it's done. They may have pushed stuff that was planned for this pub into pub 57 because QA found something wrong with it.

It is not my fault if the Devs hype something beyond reasonable limits, for what it may do.

They are doing the same mistake with SA, over-hyping it IMHO. It's good, but marginally. It will help UO, but barely as much as it could and I don't expect a much larger list of additions anymore, seeing EA's policy on hyping the crowds. :mf_prop:

I'd be completely wrong if I allowed player-driven hype to get my expectations high. But the Devs DESIGN the stuff. It's natural I'll be expecting a lot when the wording they use is so... exaggerated.

Blame me for not seeing some Light here if you want.

All I really say is things don't look good. They look better in a handfull of aspects that do not interest an average RPG player, admit it. Let alone a dedicated PvP Vet- and take that as you will.

I guess taking things from lowest priority to highest in terms of fixing stuff is EA's policy. But when it's about a Net game it's called milking. "Wait, more is coming. We swear, it's UBER."...

No more. :grouphug: That's all I had to say on this, hence the post. I'm glad some of you still see the so-called "Light" that supposedly still is somewhere in Ultima. There's barely any Ultima left anyway.

Maybe if the Trammel Towns are defended and the invaders destroyed...

... the Faction holding the town... would lose control of it?

I think this promises to be one of the best patches in a long time. I was actually shocked to see how substantial it is. We have very dynamic systems being added both on fel and trammel facets. This is exactly what the game needs.

The patches keep getting better and better. I am sorry that you don't see it the same way *shrug*

The fact that this indeed is one of the most potent patches is only adding to my argument considering what it boils down to. Although the patch that re-balanced Bushido among other things was far better in terms of quality. This also indicates they choose to eliminate the easiest, smallest problems first. It would have worked if it happened a lot faster, a lot earlier.

This patch? They have been saying they wanted to do something with Factions for AGES now, it's really not new. They let it get cold and now introduce it as "new". The ideas they toss in the game are nothing compared to some ideas offered by players either, in the distant past. That stands for Factions and another 10-20 things they(the Devs) unjustly enjoy the honours of, through UHallers' praises who simply forgot the people who originally tossed the ideas on the Forums.
I can pretend the Devs had thought all of them first but somehow no Dev Team so far seemed more competent in enriching the game than a monkey. No offense.

And the rate at which patches improve in quality and quantity, let alone the rate of the patches published, are still alarming!

And the graphics additions? Sorry but KR should have been published in a much more finalized version. An analogy to show that you're over-hyped; They had you starve and now throw you a bone and you're pretending it's a meal prepared by the best Chef in the world. And to top it off they've taught you to not ask for more for at least another month! And you're loving it!! :hahaha:

I'm sorry but to be able to "see" something it must be THERE. Not everything is subjective. You know, I wish YOU saw it the way I do.. :p It could make people become more productive if they weren't satisfied with what EA gives us... again. Most people dedicating time to real innovative ideas or to offering constructive feedback gave up after a thousand patches of nothingness with a lot of failures on top.

In direct comparison, any other game publishes into a single patch what UO publishes in a year. See any recent game's first couple of years and you will understand what I mean. While they haven't lived for 10 years, they are going strong for almost half of that number already. EA could at least lower the price but they don't because it would stagnate UO at this point. And we're addicts.

They have put us all into a check-mate position against shutting the thing down is what I see. The only way to make it right is to get EA to boost the money they invest in Ultima. But they can't or won't, with milking being much more profitable to the last second before you pull the plug. The reason doesn't really matter anyway, the result does.

Let's just agree to disagree on how well this game is faring.
