A Basic Guide To Honesty

Hello all, I just thought I would write up my experiences with the new Virtue;

1.) The items appear to be in any area which isn't player housing, a dungeon or guard zone as mentioned on UOHerald. So far I have found them on Fire Island up against a mountain, just outside the guard zone in Skara Brae, in the woods by the entrance to Sanctuary, in the woods between Britain and the Swamp to the North East, and immediately behind the Academy of Arts on Moonglow Isle.

2.) They are random items, with modifications; they may thus be a noticeable colour due to damage/resist mods. You can however also see them with CTRL-SHIFT. If you are in the Enhanced Client, swap to "Items Only" to narrow down what you are looking for.

3.) Identifying with 100 Forensics (GM) it is possible to muff the identification; I'm not sure if you can fail entirely, but once out of 5 attempts I got "You find seeds from a familiar plant stuck to this item which suggests this item is from Britain". You can use the forensics skill again though to identify the NPC.

4.) The NPC will always be "Singe Name from X". So far the cities I got where Yew, Jhelom (twice), Britain and Minoc

5.) The NPC when located is a mobile Yellow Name called "Y The Peasant". The Jhelom NPC were on the Southern island not the mainland, although I have seen some there too. It's thus possible they could also have appeared by the Bull Pens, as there's an NPC fisher hut to the south of there.

6.) 4 hand ins to the NPC itself (which took 2 hours to find the items) gains you... 1 bubble at L1 Honesty. Hnnnghhh

7.) Sosaria is apparently held together by Spider Silk. It's everywhere!

Thank you for this!

As I have also stated in several threads, along the coastline is where I've found 99% of my items. Fire Island Tram and Fel; Moonglow Tram and Fel; Around the water South and SouthEast of Destard Tram and Fel.

Best bet would be to travel to places most people wouldn't...remote islands, towns where ppl dont normaly travel too IE vesper.

I have 82 Forensics and have been able to get the name of the NPC every single time, but sometimes you have to ID the item a few times to get it.

The NPC's are yellow named, Peasants AND Nobles.

I am now 1 dot into the second path, 12 items turned in to the correct people.

In my experience, around 60 Forensics is sufficient to get the NPC name, though you might have to retry about 10 times (which is not a big deal, considering that the skill delay for Forensics is one game tick).

I've begun to hate looking for people in Yew... Huge area and the citizens tend to like their nature walks.

Mythic might want to consider adding a "Town Clerk" to each city to whom you could pay a modest fee and they would say something like: "You might look to the southeast for XX"

The funnest..most fun? :/ part is having to find someone in an opposing faction town :)

Having to fend off 20 guards while you're trying to return an item is interesting lol.

wtf - i've turned in at least 12 and have nowhere near as many dots - how in the world did you get so many per turnin - are you doing this only in felucca or something - what is your karma and fame and luck etc.

Sorry Kojak (I have always loved your siggy btw lol)

It took me roughly 11 items per dot for the first path, 90% of them were turned in to the correct people.

I have turned in 12 items so far on my second path, ALL of them to the correct people and have 1 dot so far.

So I'm guestimating 11-13 items per dot for the first path, will update here when I get my second dot in the second path.

It took you 11 items per dot for the first path?!

I'm earning a dot every 4th item I return (all to the correct NPC), and I have six dots so far.

Once people slow down their clean-up routine and start looking for these items en masse, they are going to become super scarce (as if they weren't already). On a populated shard like GL, I seriously doubt the current spawn rate is sustainable :(

that's just for a short time, then people will get bored to search for items every week and this virtue became like compassion (something developed by few) :)

But if they add the remaining virtues (spirituality and humility), the "Virtuous" title will be unlocked and then more people could be interested in it...

They might have adjusted it, and I didn't turn them all in to the correct NPC because either A) I couldn't find them, or B) I was too darn lazy to look lol.

The second path I am turning them all in to the correct NPC just to see how many it takes.

So far 12 items for the first dot..well 12 items total since I hit Seeker.

This is JUST from my run in Fel Moonglow:

13 items turned into the correct NPC for the second dot in the second path.

7 items for the 3rd dot...odd. Might be because all of them were in Fel.

And a waste of time for some, not all. For those people who buy in bulk that discount is considerable, in my opinion anyway.

When I tested this on TC the minimum skill level I found to work was 50, but it took multiple tries.

I'm on Europa, and despite the amount of missed typos in my original post, I don't think I've missed many items on my travels looking for them on our shard... there just aren't that many of them I'm afraid. I found another 1 today on Moonglow Isle after 30 minutes, but that was it. (Britain hand in).

I sort of hate how you need forensic skill to even use the Honesty virtue. No other virtue requires you to slap on an otherwise worthless skill to your template. I can understand how EA wants to revitalize a worthless skill and kill two birds with one stone, but less than 20 skill should at least give the user the name of a city or something.

I guess the idea is you put the skill on a throw-away character and he/she does it for the char you want to actually use, or you intend to make an ultimate merchant character, who will save money when he/she buys stuff. Except, for the people who just want to kill stuff rather than create non-fighting characters or throw-away storage units, the implementation is sort of sketchy at best.

I was thinking about that earlier... makes no sense.

I don't think they really want to understand the virtues...

to be honest

On a more positive note... it shows they are eager to please us, which is good... we've been asking the virtues to be completed :)

You don't need forensics to "use" the virtue. Without forensics, you can drop them to any lost and found box and gain less.
Or you can hire a detective=)

so, for those that have, How much time did you spend, to save how much?

spent near an hour running up and down coastlines, saw squat - figure i'm about 50k in the hole so far. Not going to Fel, nor islands, so that narrowed the search

From Herald (bolded for emphasis):

Herald said:
Honesty Virtue

As you travel the lands of Trammel and Felucca, you may find lost items. These items will say “Lost Item (Return To Gain Honesty)” when you mouse-over them. These items are never in dungeons or in guard zones.

To turn in a lost item for Honesty credit: In a bank of each of the Virtue Towns (Britain, Yew, Moonglow, Trinsic, Skara Brae, New Magincia, Jehlom, and Minoc) there is a lost and found box. Put the item in the box for Honesty credit. You may use Forensic Evaluation skill to gain more information about the owner of the item. If you turn the item into the Lost And Found Box in the city where the owner lives, you will get double Honesty points for your extra effort. If you give the item to the original owner, you will get quadruple honesty points. It is perfectly acceptable to let a friend discover the owner for you.

Honesty gives you discounts at NPC merchants. The higher your rank in Honesty, the bigger your discount. The discount is applied to the total purchase. The discount is not shown in the merchant window, but you will see a system message once you make the purchase.

That's crazy. Small islands, eh, haha.

I tried Moonglow then like outside of Minoc/Vesper, Brit, Yew, found one in a half hour and gave up after that, heh.

The items can be in the the middle of nowhere too, not just along the coastline.

However, I reiterate, the spawn rate of these items is not sustainable at present levels. If more than a few people want to do this per shard, quadrupling the spawn at the very least will be required.

I just did Moonglow now on Origin and got three items in a few minutes. First spot I looked at was way south down road. Found one there on coast. Then I found two at the graveyard, along the fence (one inside, one outside). No dots of Honesty, of course, which is another problem. Hard to find on populated shards and not a lot of reward.

I for one am happy that the devs made SOME sort of effort to include forensics in SOMETHING. Personally, it could of gotten put to far better use to this. But I did meet someone on Atlantic yesterday who took forensics solely for the purpose of working up honesty.

Shocked... no, sad... yes.

Yeah me and Frarc have been posting about it since Origin got the publish. I hit Seeker of Honesty bofore the pub went live to the rest of the shards and posted my findings there.

You just gotta know where to look ;)

I'm half-way through to second path in Honesty now.

Also posted a pic of where the lost and found boxes are. In case you missed it:

AH HA laziness for the win! ;)

I get that....sometimes I'm too lazy to go searchin too no worries!

I've been collaberating with Frarc because he is the most virtuous person I know, Knight of almost everything so it's been fun!

I just did a fel fire island run and got 10 items, my best run yet.

I'll be follower in no time ;)

mmmm let me rephrase... I haven't been searching hard ONLINE.

I was doing it wrong however. I was expecting to find the drops on monsters. So I went all over to lich ruins... demon temple... etc killing monsters trying to find them.

My thought was that it was working similar to stolen goods on the thieves in citadel.

Now here on Origin I don't see alot of ppl anyway, so I doubt there's very many ppl lookin here which is why I find alot.
