9 years of memories and stuff

Back in late 2007 I stopped playing UO. It was a decision that had been in the works from around January of the same year when our twins were born and UO became a hobby that did not jive at all with multiple small children, plus burnout was setting in. The decision to leave became final when I deployed overseas and spent 7 months away from the game, breaking the addiction.

Since that point, we've been spending $120 a year to keep a house with all the pixel crack we didn't want to get rid of in the off chance we decided to come back when things settle down...but for both Dola and I, the desire to come back to UO is still nil.

The time has come to pare down even smaller and remove the cost of playing a game that...we don't play.

It took a good year to decide how to get rid of all the junk we've collected over 9 years of playing. I tossed around a lot of ideas. I personally didn't just want to just let my house fall. Some of the stuff holds some still holds some sentimental value to me, bringing back memories of friends, etc. For a while I'd settled on the grandiose idea to stuff all my valuables in locked chests with 125 items in each, probably a lot of wood tossed in for weight, drop my house, and watch a huge Siege style battle.

This didn't happen mostly because I couldn't find the time to set it all up...then next thing I knew we were paying for another 6 months.

So today, in a final act to store some personal stuff in the bank, the idea of what I'd do came to me. I talked it over with Dola, and she liked it too. So, for those of you who've managed to make it through my ramble, here goes.

I have an 18X18 south of the Yew Moongate (in what was and may still be Wispwood territory). The house is nearly full of all of the items that I'd accumulated over about 9 years and Dola for about 5 or 6 years. When we combined houses, a lot of the furniture and decorations went, increasing the density of items of possible value. The chests within contain stuff from pre AOS, Marties, Tokono drops, a lot of combat gear that I had as backup for Grot (1/2's, 1/3's, pretty decent weapons, armor, combat supplies), resources, holiday gifts, and a number of items that may be worth something to collectors (player written books, crafted items by players long gone, etc). As a fair note, nothing in the house is from the Stygian Abyss expansion or beyond, we both stopped before then.

This house and everything in it is up for auction. This auction ends on Sunday 26 Dec 2009 at 8 PM PST. At that time, the highest bidder able to pay their bid gets everything. This person could be the biggest jerk in game, or a good friend from when we were playing. As a note, I will take possession of the full payment prior to turning over the house. Anyone who is unwilling to trust me need not bid. Maybe 5 years down the road one of us will want to play and use the money to get back into game...otherwise consider it a feeble attempt to reduce the available gold in game.

There is an exception to this. I've set a threshold which I will not divulge. If the highest bidder does not exceed this threshold, I will move on to plan B. Plan B will be to drop the house at some point in time, and advertise that it has happened and let Siege rules decide who gets what.

I'll say my final piece when everything is said and done.

Bidding is open, see you Sunday night.

p.s. Mods, if we can't auction and stuff on this forum anymore, please indulge this cranky old fart seeped in the past one last time.

Would love to bid, but broke, and cant compete with some of the massive cash players on the shard have.

Guess I could scrape together 2M.

Diablo - The names above are their character names. The name on the house will match one of those... not sure which, but the house is south of Yew Gate.

I'll take a guess and say it may be Allistan, since Dola played that character for a bit about a year or so ago.

Grot & Dola - Its sad to see you guys wrapping it up, but I guess it was expected. Hope ya make a killin' on your auction and that you guys will make it back someday. Send my regards to Dola and Miss Kayla! That little monkey used to crack me up when she'd read to me in Vent... It was the cutest thing EVER!

Merry Christmas and blessings to you all! :)

Heya Grot.

I remember hooking up with you back when CWS was CGG; good times. 6-7 of us fighting off Shadowclan and CE on the Yew pens or just hanging out in the old two story training healing. Those still remain some of my fondess siege memories; we didnt always see eye to eye duing our respectives stints as gm of CWS back in the day but I am glad to see the guild we both put so much effort into is still around 10 years later.

Good luck to you, and your family. Hope you had a merry Christmas, have a Happy new year, and Thanks for your service.

Whoever gets this, I think it would be a good thing to give all the player written books to the siege museum. Famine collects them, and if you plan on tossing them, or letting them collect dust in a private house, be nice to see them go to the museum

Sorry to say, Diablo, your bid didn't meet my threshold. Nothing personal, I'd have sold to anyone as I said above. If I could have gotten at least 30M (far less than everything would have been worth a couple of years ago) I'd given up the house. If for some strange reason I'd gotten 100M or more, I'd tossed in my Ghostly Shroud of Spookyness (1 of 6 last I heard).

I'll be dropping the house within the week and will post when it happens.

I'm amused that the best anyone could offer for 9 years worth of pixel crack is 10M. It likely goes to show a combination of factors. 1) The developers probably devalued all past content when they implemented Stygian Abyss. 2) The population of Siege has degraded even more than when I left, making existing supplies far greater than demand. 3) People on Siege are still unwilling to really take a risk/gamble. And/or 4) People just really really wanted to fight it out. I'll hope it was the last out of some sense of nostalgia.

How bout you actually take the time to list your items? If you think you're going to get something rediculous like 30 mil for "9 years worth of stuff" then you have seriously lost touch. Im not even going to comment on your 100mil comment, cause the names I called you would just get deleted anyways.

Because it's far more time than I want to spend in game.

Last I recall, a spooky shroud went for like 57M, that's just one item. Maybe people don't care about the rarity anymore, maybe they aren't rare anymore.

What do 1/2s and 1/3s go for these days?

What do Marties and Tokono Arties and Marties go for these days?

Stacks of ingots, leather, regs?

Bod collection, bod rewards?

Vet rewards...?

Etc etc. My questions are really rhetorical though. I don't care anymore.

blank ones with no mods other than the cast mods are somewhat valuable

What do Marties and Tokono Arties and Marties go for these days?

Most get busted into relic frags, high price on those are 100k per

Stacks of ingots, leather, regs?

Holds some value still

Bod collection, bod rewards?

depends on which rewards, POF is valuable now, higher end hammers less so.

Vet rewards...?

Again depends on which ones

Etc etc. My questions are really rhetorical though. I don't care anymore.
I realize they were rhetorical questions. If you are agreeable to giving me a walk through to assess the value I may be willing to get closer to your buy out or pass along said estimate to my guild mates. It should not take more than an hour of your time. P.M. me if you are interested.

Grot,

The people who would be interested in the pixel crack items (rare deco and interesting event or promotional items such as the shroud) would want to have an idea what you have. I'd say that is where the value of your stuff lies. Full soulstone tokens also still have significant value. If you even listed a few big ticket items, which shouldn't take long to inventory, indicating they would be included with everything else, I think it would give people some guidance on the value of your UO "estate". Otherwise it is just an unknown grab bag, although understandably was valuable to you for the memories and time spent collecting.

The jewelry and other gear saved from years past, even if they were really good at the time are probably only useful as raw materials now from unraveling, for the imbuing system.

You would need to actually walk around a bit and look at the new items made with the Imbuing skill and see that you first choice is the reason for the low bids.

FYI jewls like this 25 pots/10 hci/12 dci/22/di/12 fire sell for 200k, same for 1/2 1/3.

All old armour, with small execptions are worthless. Faction Arties have extra mods over True Arties...

I feel you just don't know how much the game has changed, last week a Ghostly Shround sold for 25-30 mil tops...

The one thing I do get from you post is your not happy so may I suggest this...

Place a vendor and sell of some of the items you have and use the gold to buy a 6 month gametime code and see where you life takes you.

Either way at least load up your bank with all the real goodies, you never know!!

I agree. Please Grot if there are any 'player written books' regarding the Shire, CWS, WC, KSS etc. in there either donate those to current members or past members for their homes or collections or to a well known shard museum owner.

The same would hold true for any player written books, written by players whom were on this shard and rl passed away like Folger Iantown or Aeric Horn/Ginsu of former KSS MYTH KIN etc. Please do not let those Siege player written books become lost or decayed to oblivion.

While these may not hold any rl or pixel in game gp value, like a spooky shroud, these books do matter to some of us whom value them for the persons we all knew or respected and liked for ...just whom they were on this shard.

PS. The same would hold true for some few items of GM MARK made things of players no longer here that matter to some folks whom collect those items, too.

I looked thru my own items and just seeing a gm mark box made by Subushi or a robe made by Lord Quentico, :) or a rune book made by Siofra KSS, brings back a flood of memories.

Some folks value those items, gp worthless yet valued far more than any pricey... pixel crack$ !

Grot, have you considered turning it over to an ingame "broker" you trust? Just a thought.

Best option. Just keep it. It's not that expensive and hold a lot of sentimental value like you said. Sure you may not be ready to come back now but trust me you will eventually.

i dont play much at all but i get around paying too much by only activating the account every 4th month right before the houses are going to fall. another option for you if you would like to keep your stuff and save some money.

Got an offer through pm's i said i would sell it for 80 million if the person could prove they have the gold so i don't waste the activation cost :)

Well they must be a rare collector. I just don't see why anyone would really want it. I mean it is a cool item and is blessed. But with all the pvp stat robes etc. I wouldnt waste my gold on it. Now Krystal's robe... That's is a different story :)
