Thought after this mornings spurts of lag & complete freeze ups for 4 to 6 sec's I thought it might be better tonight. Wrong guess:sad4:

It's fine for a few mins then it lags up like this. It's been on going for the last hr+. (And the 230 has been as high as 290 on occasion. Real Fun )

Your trace route shows the issue to be before EA. You should be polling at least 100 times to get more accurate data. A single trace route doesn't show much of anything.

You can't Poll them any more. (least I have not been able to do it for awhile now) so I do it manually, it will be fine for 10 to 15 different polls in a row then bang, you get the one pinging high for one or 2 more polls then it goes back to normal. Then 30 to 50 seconds later again with the lag.
My Normal ping to napa has always been 1st 5 hops 20-35 ping, then last 5 hops 95 to 110 each, just as regular as X-lax:D & smooth, no hitching like now.

As of 7:30am EST I was running around napa, lagged out every few seconds. Did a trace route, this is what I saw ! Lots of joy in playing at 300+ Ping on one hop that has it's own mind of when it wants to spike..

You still need to have an average, one trace route is only useful for showing what servers you go through. Without a number of packets to get an average, it is hit or miss. I could do one poll and get 10ms but my true average is 20.

If you poll after your route trace, uo trace will run until you stop it.

If I run a poll for some reason now It looses all after I get out of my ISP area (Poll use to work, but last 3 yrs it hasn't)
So I continually hit the poll once it has run

My connection was horrible yesterday. I died twice to ant lions in the Solen Hives doing the seed quests. My character easily killsthem, but she has to be able to actually MOVE to cast. Finally just gave up and haven't even bothered logging in yet today. Ridiculous.

What I find absolutely amazing is that no one has offered an apology yet due to connection issues. This has lasted for OVER A MONTH! Devs...news?

my lag is near un-noticable.
try tweaking your computer and connection, it helps alot.
if your computer literate enough to do it anyhow.

for over two weeks there hasn't been much to fight but the same ol' stuff.
invasions being tied to factions just is not working to great.

i thought this program got scrubbed because it was causing lag to the servers ?
and some ISP's saw it as a denial of service attack. ( when it polls the servers)

thank you for your concern lord kynd.
since i built this system and every other i have had for the past 25 yrs i'd say i know how to tweak it pretty well by now. and i run like lightning with everything except UO. its NOT the connect and its not the comp. its something on EA's end. since i dont have access to their equipment all i can do is sit and beg these fools to do their friggin jobs and fix it or they are gonna owe a buncha ppl a buncha money since quite a few of us can not effectively use what we are paying for. hello?

Polling is not a drain on servers anymore than a normal connection. You can ping any internet address and that is how you find out connection related information.

The program you are probably thinking of is the shard status monitor. And I don't recall reading anything that it was disabled because of server load.

The last 2 days have been unplayable for me - east coast to west coast - was there not someplace that we could post our trace routes that EA was actually going to look at them?

Started happening to me yesterday. Lag and huge packet loss.

Called my ISP (Shaw Cable Vancouver) yesterday. They said there was no problem with my connection but they were receiving a lot of calls like mine. They don't know the cause yet but it appears as if "something" is messing with the end-users' routers' DNS address. I thought if this happened you would lose your connection entirely.

Shaw's solution was to power-down the modem and the router, wait 15 secs and power-up. Damn if that hasn't cleared up my problems at least 5 times since yesterday. Downside...the problem comes back in an hour or two.
