help with macros for vetting

I have just discovered the macro system and have set up a macro for "useskill" "animal taming" which is great!! Makes things so much easier.

However, I am having trouble setting up a macro for vetting. Should I use the "Last Object" "Last Target" set up (this is what I have been using but that means I have to at least do it once). Or can you use the "UseBandage" macro with something? I tried using "useBandage" with "last Target" and it didn't work. I'm a bit confused in general on the differences between all the target choices anyways.

So if someone has a good system, please share it with me. Thanks!

I just make a macro(s) for whatever pet(s) I have out. I record a macro where I double click the bandie pile and then the pet's bar. I then assign a hot key for that macro. I can make however many more of the same type of macro for whatever pets I have out and assign hot keys to them. Then I just hit the key for the pet that needs healing. Works great for me.

Here is my patented, handy dandy, no special software required 2D-vetting macro system:

I set Ctrl-Z to Last Object
I set Ctrl-X to Last Target
I set Ctrl-S to Last Spell

Prior to battle I “prime” Last Object with the bandages. I also have my pet’s heath bar up on my screen.

After my pet has engaged our enemy, I hit Ctrl-Z and then target my pet’s health bar. For subsequent bandages I can hit either Ctrl-X or target the pet’s health bar to apply them.

If the battle is pitched, requiring constant vetting, I hit Ctrl-Z to get a fresh “bandage cursor” up immediately after I start to apply a bandage set. That way I have zero “bandage cursor” delay after a set of bandages have been applied. I can time the bandages so I hit Ctrl-X, to start the next set, the instant the “you finish applying the bandages” message appears on the screen.

In extreme situations I prime Last Spell with heal. With some FC/FCR I can use Ctrl-S to sneak in a heal during the two seconds it takes to apply the bandages and still have time to hit Ctrl-Z and have the “bandage cursor” ready when the bandages have been applied.

I am sure that something more sophisticated could set up with UOA but this system has kept my loyal pets alive for more battles than I care to admit over the past nine years.

See I hated this system when i used it. The "in UO" macro for vet needs adressing. I use uo assist

use item type(aids)
target(reset main target)
On the Q key

When i have a second pet I set the second macro on the W key and reset the target just the same. Even other times (when Im lazy) I reset the target mid battle.

The system sucks! And need to be fixed and should have been addressed when they did the pet command changes but I guess I ask too much!

Thank you for the suggestions. I haven't yet tried UOassist, but perhaps i may try it now. :D

I have discovered that if I have 4 pets and I'm trying to bandage each one, I can pull their hp bar up and click on that instead of trying to find the one I want in battle.

Is there a way to select the pet you want out of the group of say 4 pets? I tried clicking on their hp bar, but no luck. Seems like that should work. Btw, they're not named..these are just pets I am working up my taming skill on, then having them fight each other while I bandage to increase the vet skill.

Well with out uoassit you going to pull all the bars out organize them and use a simple last object uo macro. Then click on the damaged pets bar. Note when clicking the bar you must click the right spot. If you click where the name is typed in you will get a name change cursor instead of vetting. Always target the actual bar area on the tag.

If you use the uoassist method you can use 4 separate key binding using the same macro "set up". You wil record the macro once for each pet on different macro numbers(1-16) bind them to the appropriate key and set use item to use item type. This way each pet has his own macro and no targets get missed or over written(last target)

That is true.

I reset last object to bandages after looting and keep my bandage stack in my main pack for easy re-target. The advantage over a UOA all in one macro is that there is no wait for the bandage cursor. That can be the difference between winning and loosing in some battles.

If you use UOAssist, you can of course set macros for use item type (bandages) then target your pet and assign to a hotkey. I had 2 keys for my paired pets and I simply reset the targets of those macros to whatever pets I took out.

If you don't have UOA, these are the macros I'd suggest. In fact I find them better because I don't have to reset targets whenever I change pets :)

Macro 1:-

SelectNext: Follower
Bandage target

That works fine if you're only vetting a single pet or follower, but if you have 2 pets, hitting that macro simply cycles between vetting pet A and vetting pet B. If I wanted to vet pet A twice I'd use this macro:

SelectNext: Follower
SelectNext: Follower
Bandage target

I've managed to hunt with those macros so far.

In addition, you can create a macro to select the last target and vet it if you want a macro for longer fights.

I find that one useful for vetting someone else's pet during a battle.

Hope that helps :)

I think I am the only person who actually just vets the pets without anything other than a last object macro. I've been doing it over 11 years now. I tried using a macro before but my pets died more often as I didn't really have the control I was used to. Well, and the fact I'm using a lot of pets at once quite often. Having to switch is just easier using the last object and targeting the bar.

Since I don't loot unless I'm in very specific locations, I don't loose my last object. And I highly recommend everyone set up the UO open door macro. It will open the door in front of you even if you can't double click it. Don't lose your last object that way either.

I've had so many pet macros for the last 9 years they're ingrained in my head. To the point where when I hit linux for the first time I nearly killed pets by hitting those keys instead of my last object/target key :D

I really wish you could specifically target a certain pet for a macro without using UOA though. I had macros to vet each pack critter individually and I do miss that level of control. I tend to loot corpses then set my leader up as last target before the next mob spawns, then I just heal that one and get ready to slap a bandage on anyone else as need be. I'd love to have little health bars by my cats that I could click like you can on a party health bar. Especially the cats I have in the same colour heh :)

I myself like others have mentioned, use uo assist. I highly recommend it for a new or veteran tamer. While some might argue otherwise, it is very easy to set 2 macros...one as a primary, the other as an alternate.

Primary one is pet you use the most, alternate is for second one used the most.

Additionally, you can set macro #1 for the pet that will tank and then macro #2 for the damage dealer pet...the one you don't want tanking.

I'm left handed, so I use F1 for vet macro one, F2 for vet macro two.

Alas, in addition you should have named macros for your pets so when you want said pet to tank, you call them in first, then follow with your other pet.

Me personally,

I just set resources for bandage count so I always know how many I have.

Secondly, I record appropriate vet macro to appropriate pet. That way I just hit the applicable macro and never have to worry about anything.

If you get lag occasionally, or notice "Waiting for system to respond" message, you might want to set an applicable delay between vet bandages.

NOT SURE...if all or any of that made sense to you, BUT...I can use pets that normally would not be able to be used in most situations due to having a GOOD vetting macro setup.

i've set up my vet macros in uo assist. back when i had multiple pets i would use 4 keys next to eachother. lets say a - f. "a" and "d" would be the all kill command, and "s" and "f" would be the heal. the heal would be "use item type" and then i would target the dragon and mare. it would work very well, especially in Destard with the multiple targets. i could take on 4-6 targets and just keep them near me and bounce off each to vet.

but "use item", target pet, then change the "use item" to "use item type" works well for me.

Yeah that's a pretty good idea as well. I think I had something like that a long time ago, but UO Assist went poo on me and then I changed to the system I now have.
