yes and you have to forward the port through your router. you can find google cached version of UOAM website with the server instructions.
On November 15th, Spree posted a link here in UHall to the uoam.net website pages from February 6, 2008 that had been archived on the Wayback Machine website: http://web.archive.org/web/20080206144330/www.uoam.net/uoam.html. You can download the installation file from this page.
I don't mean to offend anyone here by saying this (somehow I know I will though), but I would be a bit leery of downloading the file from anywhere else. Someone else posted in one of the many threads that have popped up about UOAM in the last few weeks that McAfee was reporting a virus in a purported UOAM installation file she tried to download from someone else's site. Just be cautious.
The FAQ page for UOAM has also been archived by the same organization and you can find a copy here: http://web.archive.org/web/20080202042933/www.uoam.net/uoamfaq.html . The FAQ page covers a number of questions, including how to calibrate UOAM if you don't use UOAssist.
The Link Pane help page is archived here: http://web.archive.org/web/20080130135528/www.uoam.net/uoamh5.html. It should answer your questions about how to set up your computer to act as a server for UOAM. If you do a search on something like Google, though, you should be able to find a site that offers UOAM hosting services. Some of the companies that host TeamSpeak or Ventrillo also host UOAM for a small monthly fee. UOAM may have some "security issues," so you may find that some of your guildmates are reluctant about linking up through it if you are going to host it or even if you find a commercial site to host it.

When I d/l off the wayback machine website it'll save the file, but when I try to run it, it says not a valid Win32 file and will not go any further. Not sure what is up with it. I do currently have uomap installed and running, but thought I would get the .exe in case I ever did lose it.
I got the same message, Wolfie. I then downloaded the compressed UOAM.ZIP file, extracted all the files, and then clicked on the extracted version of the UOAM application file. That starts the program and finishes the process of downloading UOAM.exe from uoam.net. You then click the "Update and Start UO Auto-Map" button to actually open UOAM.
You get to the archived page with the compressed UOAM.ZIP file (http://web.archive.org/web/20071226101158/www.uoam.net/files.html ) when you use the "download the files by hand from here" link under the big blue "Click Here to Install UO Auto-Map" button.
