Speaking of lag, how about Stratics lag?

XP, IE 7, Europe, and typically lag on LoTR ads (nothing else loads and the ad is frozen at the top), sometimes to the point of my browser locking up.

Has the forum lag decreased for anyone, or are you still experiencing the above issues?

This has happened to me for the last couple months (I think, could be a little less). It seems like when I go to a post to read it there is a short lag while it is loading, which is somewhat normal. But if I click on a post that has quite a few replies I end up with a very long lag, sometimes around 10 seconds. I have a 1.5 year old comp and a T1 connection.
it's way better than it used to be. i can deal with a little lag from websites. but i expect fast reliable service from an online game.

Gimme my thread back :sad3:

This isn't about *anything* other than the lag some had experienced on THE FORUMS. :D

R. Off Topic (OT) are not prohibited, but should be posted within reason. There are some topics that are not appropriate for the forums. All posts are subject to these rules. Excessive OT posts will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
it's not "within reason" to mention lag in a thread about lag?

not to mention the purpose of my post was to say i don't have any lag problems with the site.

:violin: Just quit playing UO already. It obviously isn't a game you enjoy.

As to the topic at hand: Still getting lag. It varies from topic to topic. Certain threads are worse than others

Still getting lag as well - this thread took close to 10 seconds to open, with my ability to click on anything being frozen for the duration of the wait.

- Yes, I'm still getting the delays today.
I loaded this thread by hitting the show last post button. It popped to the last post, and then my ie7 on Vista browser freezes for several seconds before allowing me to scroll up and down again (or view other tabs on the same browser window). My RSS feed icon is lit up in orange when this happens.
On other threads, like the big one about champion spawn changes, I get two pause/freezes: 1 while I assume the graphics are loading because I don't see the add and the thread hasn't loaded yet, then 2 after it goes to the post (first on page or last post made).
Neither of these were happening a month ago.

I wonder if it might be a combination of other parts of the internet being hosed a bit (like UO's recent issue turned out to be) along with some changes in ie7 or the way it interacts with Vista. Granted I've read that other browsers are showing the same thing.. but on a few other websites I have noticed an annoying freeze when things are loading. My internet connection seems to be working fine but I'm wondering if other addresses that need to be loaded to view the threads might be a part of it. I think most of my Stratics settings for viewing threads are set at the defaults. I am viewing in linear mode.

So...a shot in the dark...

Are all the affected users running Vista? I ask *only* because on my XP machine things are fine...but I lag on my laptop which is Vista. On both I'm usually running FF, but do also lag a bit using IE on the Vista machine.
I don't have Vista on any of my 'putes, zigzag, and the Stratics boards no matter my set up (with/without sigs, 30 or 100 posts per page) laaaggg for me.

I run either Firefox or the latest version of IE on an XP pro set up.

Given similar experiences on other boards, I deeply suspect it's simply a matter of VB just being caca...

With Firefox 3 with Addblock Pro no lag.
With IE 7 there is lots of lag.

Why do people still run IE?

Naw...it's all good. :)

It's along the lines of Vox populi.
you mean: governing from the bench. as a mod, you're a jurist. you are an activist. throwing me in the ditch because you disagree with me on one subject, just like the rest of the posters.

you mean, governing from the bench, or abuse of power.

you don't know how or deserve to be a mod.
Far from it...on both counts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_populi

"Usually the interviewees are shown in public places, and supposed to be giving spontaneous opinions in a chance encounter — unrehearsed persons, not selected in any way. As such, broadcast journalists almost always refer to them as the abbreviated vox pop. In U.S. broadcast journalism it is often referred to as a man on the street interview or M.O.T.S."

I meant that *you*...as 'the man on the street'...part of this community, had a right to your opinions and to have them heard...but in this case...I had the mic.

okay I see what you mean. I apologize, I thought you were talking about the general voice of the people being your foundation for decisions

For those experiencing said lag, try reducing the number of posts per page.

http://vboards.stratics.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

Scroll down to Number of Posts to Show Per Page
Change it to something other than the forum default.
20 or 30 posts per page would be a reasonable figure.

Edit: I notice this page took 16.7 seconds to fully load, due to getting data from www.google-analytics.com
Perhaps it's that, which is causing the problems?
But I'm convinced it's the forum's default number of posts per page, it shouldn't (imo) be set as high as it is.

Some have no choice *cough*.
The IT people at work support only one browser and it's IE, no other browsers can be installed.

Maybe since it is at work you should be working, not screwing around on the internet

Try blocking the over 110 pieces of JavaScript embedded into this thread page alone, controlling advertizing, tracking and a whole host of other useless stuff.

Works fast and looks great without all of it it. =)
