Probably not you, but there are plenty of people out there who don't even realize they've had a scroll/item drop until some time after the fact.

And when the champ drops, it comes down to just how experienced your guild is at defending against thieves. Most are pretty good at protecting thier investments, but some are definitely not. It has always been so, some people could defend themselves against the thief, and those will not be the victims.
