My main problem with this whole em thing is Ive played this game since the beginning and I know the reason they have not been in the game for years now. They get a little happy when players die/lose stuff. I mean I have been "played with" in the past by some one(no one current mind you) where a huge string of bad "happenings" destroyed my game experience.

So beware of the power you give these people. It will most likely be abused!

Well remember now they are being payed and are probably going to be on contract so, that will make them have to follow proper edict, or else potentially face a law suit...

Anyways what do you think the First event they do should be?

I believe it has been stated that the EMs are going to fill specific roles within the current event arc that are better played by a live person than by a scripted NPC/mob and that they've put rules in place to try to prevent the "run events for my friends and give them uber stuff" problems of the past.

How will it work out... we'll see.

I'd personally like to see some closure on previous EM events left hanging, in a way to tie them into the SA lead-in arc.

For example, we currently have a quasi-Khaldun spawn outside the north gate of Luna, on LA (skele dragon, ancient liches, rotting corpses). This was a result of an EM invasion that was ALMOST done when the last program ended.

The New EM could tie what was left into the old events, mention in passing the fates of the old EM's characters, and progress us into the new ones, cleaning up the hostile remains in the process (certain things, like the old EM's house for his evil character, could be left, as long as the spawn outside it was checked and vetted, not necessarily deleted).

Learn the shard history, and clean up and finish previous storylines that were never completed when the old EM's got booted. Or tie the unfinished stuff into their own story, and continue buisness as usual.

The first thing the em of europa should do, is to somehow revieve Jordan Jurrel (former ems char) out of his crystalline grave and continue the story of this char.

I disagree with this, for two reasons.
1.) I recall talking with Elendrick, around the end of the EM program, and as I remember it, he was somewhat satisfied with the closure (as much as he could be, I guess)
2.) It was his character. A new EM shouldn't have to play someone the former EM's character, and the former EM's character shouldn't just be passed like a baton to the new EM.

If they came to Chessy and reactivated Wintersoul....I'd be in love with all EMs. I'd just like to see some things done on Siege that encourage PvP. Maybe a rare, not over powered, item drop from a big battle yadda yadda. Something that gets people out to play.

The first thing that an EM should do is to find a way to tell the shard that an event will start that day. On our shard it was a shield on the throne area of Brit Castle with a time to meet. Also whoever puts this together should remind us that UO's events are days/weeks/months long and EM events are about two hours long...before the whining begins about missing an EM event.

Why is it whenever EMs are discussed a couple folks always post and whine about how they didn't get their share of rares/loot/etc last time. What is that about?? And who cares?

I would say take a look at what happened before, look at what is open and if it would be possible to continue with it/close it. If not, move forward.

1. Talk with the developers and other EMs to figure out some best-practices and get ideas on ways to spice up events (shards with different standards increases dislike amongst shards; EMs with insight on wide varieties of event styles are more likely to cater to everybody eventually).
2. Learn the history of the shard they will be EMing on (angry roleplayers takes away from potential richness).
3. Figure out how much freedom they will actually have before spending time planning events (disgruntled EM != happy players).

At least he should connect his char´s story to the old em´s char.
And really.. Elendrik´s ending of his char was great! I found it sooooo sad!
I even visited the crystal cave with my chars months after the em program ended.. *sniffs* I liked Jordan Jurrel! *cleans her nose*

I enjoyed most of the events we had on europa, altho I think that crafter events were missing. At least I didn´t hear of any.

I would like to see some of the stuff happened during the day. I cant play at prime time and I missed all the other em events. Never even seen a em. Would be nice to have stuff in the afternoon.

I'll second this one. There is still a lot of junk lying around from EM events that were never completed three years ago. Lets get rid of all that junk before we start adding more clutter.

Ok just so ya all know my following statments are a joke to releave my anger about the lag issue. Hand out whips to get the hampsters running faster on the Uo servers. Retire all hampsters over 4 years old and replace them with younger hampsters. Hey have they ever considered upgrading from hamsters to a more reliable creature like hmm say Ferrits? Yea Ferrits thats the ticket!

Hail: They all need to be flown to the North Pole, stripped naked, and made to run around in the snow for 5 hours. This is to help thicken their skin...........because if that person does not have a thick skin, they won't stick around as an EM past 1 event. I do not see any way they can have a more positive impact, than a negative one.

1. They are mainly narrators, and viewed as a waste of time.
2. They are able to do a little but, but it becomes viewed as, "the loot is not worth the time to get it", type of thing.
3. They are able to do a good little bit of stuff. "Overpowed, wrong time of day, not enough notice, limited charater templates usefull, wrong shard, ect".

Oh, and just let any one of them try to get people to go to Felucia....:yell:

I think the first thing they need to do is decide what the final question of their story arc is going to be (I think a good story arc ends with a question, not simply a do-this-and-claim-victory, but a real choice where the outcome changes the world in some way). Everything else they run will be buildup to this final question.

I am not sure about the "first thing" or last thing an EM should do. But based on my past experiences from such events,

1) EM should lock down a book containing the plot/summary of the event (after the event has taken place) in a place accessible by players. One of my biggest pet peeves from events is that I hardly ever knew what was going on or what happened by the end of it. This is probably true for most other players as they spent most of their time fighting lag or being lost.

2) More or less same as above, one cannot underestimate the power of a PROPER CONCLUSION. If you are going to spend all this time planning an event then please take some time to have a well-defined conclusion. This could be as easy as showing up and giving a short speech about what happened. If there is no time to do this after the event then they can give a brief synopsis before the start of next event. It is not hard to RP that. Half the events on Atlantic past season ended with people scratching their heads because the EM never showed up in the end. Heck, we were not even sure if it was time to go home. Locking down a book, as mentioned in point 1, would help a lot.

3) Plan a decent arc ahead of time. During the past season you could easily tell which EM was just winging it and which EMs had actually bothered to make a plan. It goes without saying that the events by the former were lot more fun to attend. This could actually be the first thing they do - make an overview of the entire arc!!

The first thing EM's should do is start exploring some of the less commonly used maps and learn them well. There is SOOOOOO much content in UO that a majority of players have never been to, because there's no reason to go there.

Recent events have done a great job of using some of the unused illshendar content, but there's still plenty of illshendar to use.

i was under the impression that it wasnt a payed possision.
I was talking to a fellow staffer about it and was told it was volluntary.
If it was paid work then id be in on it because it would warrent the use of my 'free' time.
But then theres the i lag on every other shard except my own issue, and i doubt they would let anyone EM on their home shard.

Stage a town meeting, or series of meetings at various times, with players from their allotted shard.

Basically a meet and greet, get to know their new community, and have a brainstorming session. People can come with their best suggestions for the types of content they'd like to see (pvp, pvm, rp, etc), or specific examples (quests, scavenger hunt, tournament, etc) and basically text dump on the EMs.

Of course having some sort of order to the proceedings would help, but you can bet some people will just spam or talk over the process. With that in mind, the EMs record a log of the discussions and sift through it later on to find any missed gems.

It would be a good teeth-cutting exercise as it'd introduce the higher profile personalities immediately, plus give the EMs a feel for the community dynamic in a dialogue setting.

Thats the problem with this game nowdays.. For old veterans this game might have depth still, but too many ppl are just after loot nowdays. I'v noticed that I havent either been following storylines anymore, just going for items usually... Which is sad.

That's why event has to be either REALLY interesting, or drop superior loot to get ppl there. I hope they try to focus on REALLY interesting part :)
