self repair broken?

I've got a self repair suit that I use for training and noticed that it wasn't self repairing. So I stopped all combat and puttered around for 4 or 5 hours. No change at on in durability in that time period. The suit has been subjected to repair deeds and POFs - I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not, but I'm just throwing it out there.

Anyone else noticing the same thing?

an item's self repair only kicks in when you are being hit in combat.

I wish it worked as a slow regen away from combat, but the way it currently works, is that if it gets damaged, there's a chance (based on its Self Repair number) that it gains that number of points back.

So a self repair 5 item gains back 5 points if the ability activates - but the property can only activate once per minute per item.

As a result, it takes Self repair 2 or 3, to routinely stay near max resist. Self repair 1 will need repairs every so often if you fight things that damage armor a lot (though nowhere near as often as normal gear) and it's rare that self repair 4, 5 or 10 (though technically the 10 items only function as 5s) even show damage.

Self repair has always been broken a bit, and items get this behavior now and then. You can make it work again by removing, re-equipping, eating food, logging in and out. The problem is, I haven't been able to tell ahead of time when it will stop repairing itself.

Also, if I remember correctly, armor will only repair itself during melee damage. You have to be taking direct damage to allow the self repair to work. It doesn't seem to repair from spell damage.

Now, I am recalling this from memory of problem I had with self repair about 6 months or so ago. I hope this helps, and don't claim to be 100% accurate in my old memory. heh

thanks for the replies. that explains it all to me. So it looks like what's broken is my understanding of the game mechanics (and that's been broken since I first started UO).

heh... it never hurts to ask. I know some players who claim to know everything, but I am pretty sure that I don't even after 11 years. And there are a few bugs that mystify all of us.
