origin 8:30pm central 11/10/08 pets unbonding on server restore

The title says it all. Apparently pets were not stabled when Origin went down and are unbonding and dying if in dangerous places. Need to consider a restore prior to all the server disconnects so people won't lose their pets.

I agree.

I didn't get hit, but losing a prized pet to something like this is really bad.

When was Origin last available to log on? I've been trying sporadically for a couple of hours now to log on there and never see it on the shard list. Are some people still logged on and seeing the pets going wild?

around 8:30pm central Origin showed up on login for about 5 minutes. I was able to re-tame one of my pets. but when I switched to another character to try saving a guild members, Origin was no longer showing. I have a guild member who is in game and with at least 3 peoples pets that have now gone unbonded. So yes even as I type this the shard is up and pets unbonding, and the login servers are down.

I was wondering around and saw at least 5 different pets that were unbonded, all looked to have been in skara brae, when server went down paged gm! was 8th in que till logged out for night!

Well, I logged on my tamer there earlier today, but am pretty sure she was on her nightmare and I know she logged out at the house. Guess I'll find out at some point whether the mare logged out safely.

When you log out, or are disconnected from an active server, your pet is stashed safely away.
When the server hasn't had a chance to do this, then the pet isn't stowed.
This happens largely when a backup is restored, such as during a daily maintenance. You were there with your pet at the time of backup, so the backup thinks you're there. When the server comes back up, it sees that you're not there since you're not logged in, but the pet is just a mobile.

well I'm sure my mage is dead. I'm REAL glad I didn't log on my tamer. I would have been real mad if I lost the pets I would have had out.

THis is a lil ridiculus.... i had just logged out of my tamer before all this started, but have friends who were working on invasion quests when the server started having issues and all were on their tamers :eek:/ I dont know how many were able to get back in and save their pets, but this sucks, all that training down the drain over server issues or origin being a test subject for the lag issues, whichever it might be.

I had this happen to me a looooong time ago on Lake Superior. I had worked my butt off on that pet to have the server go down and bye bye doggie. Oh I was heated but it was not a shard wide issue like yours sounds like. I hope they do a revert on your shard! Good luck to you all

Is there any reason to believe that EA/Mythic actually CAUSED this by applying new code to Origin, trying to address the lag issues or anything? I would have thought that a... if they had put on new code to try that, they would have announced it prior to let people know to be careful and b... if they had put on new code, they would have been prepared to quickly take it out should the need arise.

I was assuming that todays problems were more likely caused by database corruption or some type of hardware failure... if it was the later, ie not Mythic's fault then they need to do the best they can but "life sucks" sometimes...

If it was the former, and Mythic was using Origin as a lab that caused all this, and now as a result all these pets are lost... someone's got some 'splaining to do... and probably some heads to roll too... at least at a normal software company that would be the case.

I request a revert. I didn't lose anything, but I'm thinking of the people who did. IMO, people shouldn't ever lose pets to bugs.
