Finding Christmas tree gems on Crimson Dragons

I've been recently picking up christmas tree gems off the ground after a crimson dragon is killed during an invasion.. these are different from the regular gems.. Is this something planned or a gift to us? So far i have the ruby and citrine.

these started droping during pub 54 or 55 as far as i know there is no difference other than look at least that we know of yet

There are 16 different ones that can drop, from what I remember; one of the rubies even looks identical to the common one (but it won't stack).

No use, as of yet anyway; simply decorative.

I think these gems will be used for high end imbuing.

so, do they drop when monsters are killed, or just randomly wherever?

They drop when a Crimson Dragon is killed.

Are they the same ones that the strangers dropped? I haven't had a chance to fight the crimson dragon yet.
