So what are your computer specs for running UO? & which client do you run?

I`m running an 18 month old Dell 410xps with:

4gb of Ram
Vista Operation system(wish I would have stayed with XP)
250gb Satiek Hard Drive
1gb Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT(sweet & cheap video card ^^)PCI-E
Intel Core Duo 2 6600 Processor at 2.4 ghz

& when I say cheap video card talking less that $115.

Depends what town I am in, what else I'm doing and where I happen to be sitting. I have numerous systems I can play UO 2D on, to run KR or 2D, I just have one - my Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a 18 month old AMD 64 X2 4800 with NV 9600GTS. For 2D I have the client loaded on almost all of these - I can run on a 5 year old VPR Matrix Laptop Celeron laptop running XP Home with nV MX 440go 32MB video, or my Dell XPS Laptop running XP Pro (Having a 128MB Radeon 9700 is cool but the 1920 x 1200 15.4 screen makes the UO window client very small), relatively new Gateway Dual Turion laptop has plenty of horsepower and an ATI graphics subsystem. I also have a 4 year old P4 3.2G system with an ATI X1600 running XP Pro, a dual 6800GS SLI based AMD 64 X2 4600 with XP Pro, an AMD 64 X2 5200 running Vista Ultimate, a 5 year old MSI-Mega P4 2.4 with a Radeon 9600. I even have a 2 year old dual Xeon server system that technically could run UO on but I try to keep that for development work :) I think UO may also be loaded on my wife's Dell system too!

Bottom line they all run UO 2D with no problem (other than the annoying Vista app unload issue) most could run KD but even with the grunty video cards, performance is marginal at best :(

.... hmmm time for a LAN party!

A five year old Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. 1.5 Centrino processor and 512 MB ram and 80 MB 7200rpm HDD. Got it in a docking station with a 19'' widescreen monitor. Runs 2D fine, although it lags up with many dragons all attacking a boss or with lots of people running around during PvP field battles.

Anyhow

2.4 quad core
1k ram
radeon 9800 256 w/shader
vista 32 bit
500 gb HD
6 mb dsl(current5 mb cable)end of month my contract runsout and am switching.

My motherboard supports my current gen ram/card and the next gen. It has double slots just to provide this and was very inexpensive. A great find! its an Azrock or Asrock. Seeing that I had the ram and vid card everything else only cost $320. A great buy if you ask me as now I can upgrade peace by peace. The ram is a little short on the vista system but other than that I run smooth.

I also have an older computer i run uo on that i use for resing myself and "other" menial tasks like resing my miners beetles when no ones around as well as downloading. I use a usb drive to swap things on my new computer. I dont remember the specs but its a 1.8 ghz atholon(old)

You guys running vista 64, are you running a 32 bit emulator. I was told for gaming 64 bit was "bad". And are you into game or software design as Thats the only reason to use 64 vista AFAIK. C++ and what not.

No w/o 64bit you cant use 4gb ram. I mostly run UO, a 3d cabinet/design program much like cad, Protools, cakewalk.

Correction without a 64 bit OS you can't use over 4gb of RAM 4gb is the mathematical limit a 32bit OS can recognize and access. Saying that Vista 32bit only supports up to 3 is a misconception as 1GB was used internally by the OS and not reported. SP1 for Vista corrects this so it will show and can access up to 4GB.

What i was lead to belive was "all" games were coded or 32 bit and even with extra ram it would be sllower to run on 64 bit with an emulator.

Are you running an emulator or just letting that go?

(my info is 100% brother based)

That's a hard one to answer, I've seen programs that when installed generate both 32 bit and 64 bit .dll files to handle how the processors handle the data differently...so really it's all a matter of if they want the program to have 64 bit support or not...

Since the 64bit OS still isn't the dominate type most games aren't coded with built in 64 bit support though it's starting to happen more and more which can bog them down a bit yes.... It's all up to the developers really.

MY pc broke, so i'm using our family's 10-year-old one that's been in constant use.. so...

Compaq Presario (has a replacable colored plastic front.. i'm sure the order form we got with it for alternate colors is no longer valid)
256mb ram
Not sure on the processor, but its an old (in the 10 years range) model Athalon
NVIDA RIVA TNT2 video card (forget the memory, but its below what is suggested for the game; is showing signs of the early stages of failure)
Windows 98SE
Generic SB(16?) soundcard
Standard optical mouse/substandard keyboard
And a dying 30 gig hard drive

The newest part on the thing is a flat monitor we got 2 years ago. Second newest is a generic DVDRW drive we got 4 years ago.

Too much action on the screen and most of the more recently added special effects (like the soul death ones in Magincia right now) cause heavy slowdown, but it runs fine otherwise. Had to install the game onto a 2 gig flash drive to be able to patch it though, due to the dying HD.

A 64-bit chip is like a 32-bit chip which can do more. Anything a 32-bit chip can run, the 64-bit chip can run just as well - But a 64-bit program won't work on a 32-bit chip because it's trying to use features that aren't there.

The main "limitations" of the 64-bit chip are rooted in the operating system you run on it. For example, the 64-bit version of Windows doesn't come with the NTVDM required to run DOS programs (though there's nothing stopping you from using DOSBox instead). But there's no need to emulate a 32-bit chip because all the support is already there.

The system does change "mode" depending on what it needs to do, though. For example, to use 64-bit features it enters "long mode".

Anyway...

Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
MS-6380
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.5GHz
512MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
HIGHTECH EXCALIBUR RADEON 9550SE Series
SB Live! Audio

Runs 2D as well as you'd expect, given that the client also worked quite well with something like 32mb RAM and a 100-200mhz CPU once upon a time... Probably still does but I can't be bothered to check.

KR seems to work quite well also, though I reckon a bit more RAM and a faster CPU would help smooth out the bumps just a little bit. It can take quite some time to draw the screen after warping somewhere entirely different to my current locale, and it doesn't like having too much going on at once in my area, but when just running around there's nothing to complain about.

Normally I'm running UO on:
XP Professional SP3
Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
Athlon X2 4000+ @ 2.4 Ghz
2GB Ocz Spec Ops DDR2-800 @ 4-4-4-8
XFX Geforce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition @ 645/1000
Tagan 580W Modular PSU
Microsoft Sidewinder 2000dpi Gaming Mouse

My main Gaming rig, runs every game out so far on max settings. UO 2D ran really well. ;)
But right now I'm using a bolted together box of old parts, while waiting for my main PC to arrive here (I moved):
XP Professional SP3
ECS KT-600A
Athlon XP 2500+
1GB DDR-400
Geforce 6800GT AGP

Doesn't run all the new games, but it runs most surprisingly well. Unfortunately it doesn't run UO 2D because I get 700 ping to my home shard from here :( :( :(

We've got an old Packard Bell laptop that mostly runs Mandriva linux. Sometimes XP if I'm using something that won't work under Wine, but hardly anything gives me trouble now.

My old system wasn't exciting - Nvidia 5700LE graphics, 1mb ram with an average Asus mobo. That ran UO and KR perfectly in linux, in fact KR worked better under Wine than it did under XP.

Current system is a Packard Bell with an ATI Radeon 1950 but a lowly 1gb memory. I haven't installed KR on it yet, but 2d works nicely. I don't have a windows drive on this system so it's a pure linux system. It came with a Vista drive, but some bright spark updated the hardware and MS told him he couldn't get a new activation code for a preinstalled system without a book or some nonsense. Harsh lol :D
