Do you bother to page GMs?

I was being harassed by a guy tonight. Normally I do not care, but when it comes to taming, there are only so many spots to work it.

The guy would kill what I was taming immediatly, and then tame the animals, and take then away on the subserver and presumably sit there with them, so I could not tame.

Seems like a pretty clear cut ROC violation. I asked him not to, and tried to talk, but nothing. It has been over 3 hours and still no GM.

Should I just give up and let the griefer win?

uo is for griefer and benefits antisozial gameplay more then fair gameplay

I was trying to tame Kirin last week and found they'd been moved. They don't need to sit with them, just release them within the same sub server and they won't respawn. Luckily I posted on here and someone was able to tell me where they were. I managed to re-tame them and ship them to the zoo, restoring normal spawning.

What is it you're trying to tame and on what shard? Maybe we players can help

Go to felucca to train taming, if he pops up there just nail him. If you char doesn't have necessary skills to take ex. 2x bake kitsunes with you, ask your friend to come to kill him.

Nice, but I was in Ilsh at the Savage camp, taming the Ridgebacks, savage kin paint and the savages kill the Ridgies for me, the nnew tames.

And thanks Petra, I have looked all over, no idea where he put em, on Pac.

That really sucks... Been taming there too when I was training taming, great spot. I really don't get what's wrong with ppl who just grief for no reason... Well atleast without any good reason, I quess he has some reason...

Why bother? The few times I ever need a GM for something I get some canned response with a link that does nothing to help me at all. I have literally had things disappear and reappear in my home, page a GM and they sent me to some site that did nothing to help me and/or told me about how I must have made a mistake. I even took screenshots to show I wasn't crazy. Not that it did any good. So I gave up on the GM's.. Not to mention waiting in queue for them is just a pain.

my latest gm contact was 2 day ago
i called GM,it was very urgent, so after 2-3 min GM was there and could help me .
that i call FAST help.

so, the time a gm apear or not, depents on the problem u have.

I had same thing before, with bulls. Paged GM cos i didnt see a bull there in days. Gm gave me alternate places where to find bulls, but he said its legite gameplay and he cannot do anything about it...

Just bc you dind't like doesn't mean it's illegal... granted the guys being a punk, but just think of how much LESS fun UO would be if it was a single player game lol. Matter of fact... I bet as soon as you posted this you started looking forward to seeing other people's opionion on the situation... The guy did you a favor! Reading an entertaining thread on stratics is DEFINATELY more fun than training taming! Always half full!

well i've found in my experience, that a gm only comes, when someone is swearing to kill you and saying alot of bad things and stuff they will do to your body once you are dead.. :| other then that... i've only gotten a GM when it is about a current event problem, IE rubble stuck on my boat so i couldn't move Thanks by the way once again hehe, Even when i reported a duper... 2 hours and nothing so who knows, it to me, really depends on the GM you get... since when ever i get help with a real person it is either one of two people... and all the others are canned responces..

PS.. i find after 3 times you get fast response..., (randome example..) my pets name has vanished.. response one... 1hour 24 mins.. Canned we cannot help players find their pets or tame them, see link here... report again... 2, wait time 30 mins, getting better but still we are unable to assist players in retreaving lost pets... #3 less than a min!!! GM ------- came on and said we are sorry, about your problem it is a code stream something orather, and currently can not be fixed (real person since the messages were apearing not in a click menu and responded to me) even though it didn't get fixed it seems 3 times is the charm....(true story)

OR if alot of people.... i had my guild report one thing, since it did bother everyone, with 30 people with the same problem the response came quickly although that was a long time ago when you could SEE gm apear infront of you ...

I've not yet ever had an issue that required a GM.

(I have come very close to paging on some blatent scripters, but have so far decided to not get directly involved in policing the game)

I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago. I didnt bother paging cause really whats the point. So I just marked down his character name and announced to all I know to make sure he has a hard time doing anything he does with that character from there on

OK....Had to try this out for myself. Went to Ilish to tame Kirin. Took him to Glow and loosed him at graveyard. Whent back to Ilish and there was another one. Tamed it and took to Glow. Back to Ilish, found another. Tamed and took to Glow, other 2 were still there fighting. Went back and found another. Left it alone. SO....it would seem that if you take them out of the spawn area, may be server line thingy, they respawn. I have seen others doing this with the Big Wolf thingies as well to get special colors. They tame the plain ones take them out of the cave and another spawns. You walk outside the cave and there the other ones are walking around. Have also seen the pen in Delucia full of them. LOL!!! It may be that the Butt-Head took them just far enough away from your taming area to keep them from respawning. I didn't want to test any further with the Kirin cause I was not sure if someone else was trying to test this as well or simply looking for taming gains. (Although, I saw no one around while I was there.) I might add too...I have met only 2 other people that use the same spot that our Guild *Used* to use for tame Kirin.

Unfortunetly there seem to be more Butt-Heads in UO than NICE people. I have set several new players up by finding them house spots, giving them the gold to place them, gear, plus a little extra cash to get them started on the right foot. When they ask how they can repay me...ALL I ask is that they pass it on when they see someone else really trying and needing a helpin' hand. Some I never hear from again, but I don't mind. Others, I fought side-by-side with for years until WOW took them away. That's life. I still remain. I do what I can When I can.

The GMs, if they respond, will first tell you that it's your obligation to leave before they intervene.

So not only is letting the griefer win the most practical thing to do, it's also official EA policy.

In-Game customer support has never been one of UO's strong points.

I think I may have called a GM all of three or four times for actual game stopping issues and they've always been handled appropriately.

However it's been months if not years since the last time I paged one.

I simply don't see how they are absolutely needed all that often... maybe it's just me, but I wonder if the response times would be better if people actually didn't page them for every small issue they have with the game.

They exist but usually one gets the canned response to go read the pages of usless info. It can take several tries to get a response but there is the danger that if you page too much they can get upset and ban you.

There is the problem also that it can take hours to get the brush off canned reply.

It is so much fun to try to explain to them that one can't recall to a boat key on siege. I think it took several tries before I got help on that one.

The GM moved it to his character to use thinking it is really nifty no no!! i mean it probly was deleted yes??? and i bet you learned alot about what GM are SUPPOSED to do didn't you???

There is a trick to this... sometimes it works... sometimes, no.... depends on the ligitimasy of the house placement... just customize and leave without doing anything...

Not intentionally anymore... the Help menu is so broken and screwed up its a joke... and even if your "page is received", in the off chance you don't get stuck in position 8 of the queue for ever, you just end up with a canned response... "Blah Blah Blah we wont do anything about whatever your page was for, dont expect a reply because it breaks the TOS, cry to someone else..."

What happened to a GM actually coming in game, making themselves visible and actually giving a double whopper with cheese? I mean it's their job, its what their paid for... how about actually do it?

Sure I respect they get lots of pages but I bet a lot of pages are re-pages over issues that are never dealt with properly in the first place. I recently paged a couple of times on different issues and the when I read the canned response i got back, i thought to myself, "They didn't even read my 200 fu*king word page! Whats the point?"

How about making the cancel button on the help menu work too? I tried the "help stuck" option the other day and it wanted a description of the problem. I thought it was odd but it was right after Pub 56... so I figured maybe they changed it... i put in a short thing "im stuck" or something to that effect.... sent off the request... I could still move after the stuck page so i figured i did it wrong. I immedately went back in to the help menu and cancelled it but of course that feature is broken too... A useless page was escallated to a GM who replied something like 3 hours later with a response saying "it seems like your moving fine" lol how ridiculas is that?

What a waste of f*ing time and money... We would be better off with no help/gm staff than what we've got now.

EA/OSI: "Hmm we used to provide great service in game and actually help people, and we even had a volunteer network where we didnt have to pay our support staff... lets get rid of it!!!" Smart thinkin' guys...

Umm its not against ROC to kill what you are trying to tame. The tame doesn't belong to you until it turns blue.

Ignoring the whole "is griefing against the RoC" issue aside, yes GM's do in fact still exist. I saw one a few weeks ago when playing on Atlantic (not my regular shard) I stupidly teleported myself via scroll on top of the New Haven ninja dojo and didn't think to bring a 2nd scroll to teleport myself back down. I use the "Help I'm stuck" option, a minute or two later a GM popped up and transported me down to the ground. Asked if there was anything else he could do for me, then he waved and disappeared.

Every time I've ever called a GM, I've had a legitimate reason for doing so. Therefore, every time I've called a GM, one has promptly shown up and dealt with my problem.

Harrassment is NOT a legitimate reason for calling GMs, because the official line is that it is the responcibility of the harrassed individual to leave. I have no problem with this. When someone is doing something that interferes with my enjoyment of the game, regardless of wether or not it is deliberate, I leave. Thus, I am happy.
It is only the stubborn I-MUST-HAVE-MY-WAY people who complain about harrassment. No one is forcing anyone to play UO. If you choose to play, you play by the rules set down in the official ROC, which means it is your responsibility to not waste GM's time by paging on griefers.

If your character is bugged, a GM will help you. If somthing is stuck in your house and can't be removed, a GM will help you. That is what they are there for.

BTW, it was Customer Support that was outsourced to India - the GMs have always been relatively local to EA office locations (with, IIRC, the JApanese shards having Japanese GMs, etc.).

I'm sure Regine can clarify that...

If I know that I will be playing the same char for multiple hours then i might page a GM but usually I dont have that type of time to wait.
Wish they would fix the queueing system as it still seems to always say your 6th in the queue - what your actual number could be is a complate mystery so you can no longer guess how long your wait will be


For fun/boredom once since I have multiple accounts & pc's I opened a request for help on all of them go figure all 4 were 6th in queue at the same time lol.

More often than not after hours the GM never will show you just get canned response, got to love that support
