A Lantern [Begged by: Your Name Here]

Wouldn't it be nice if beggars would be able to get some prestige in their begging once they hit GM :)

Marking all items begged by that player with their name, would be nice for the player to have a full set of clothing etc begged by them or something :D

Just thought it might be nice if they were able to alter the code which shouldn't be too hard granted there were even any GM beggars in the game currently who would want to support the idea.

OHHH I like that. I am desperately working on GMing this and would love a suit with my hubby's beggar's name all over it. Hopefully I will be there soon as a GM beggar (well on my husband's char that I am working!) to put in my two cents on this ;)

:)

Let's hope so, although we would need more items to be beggable first haha. Considering only thing we can get is gold from anywhere but heartwood and the only things wearable in heartwood would be I think the hat, shirt, and lantern.

Would be interesting if someone would be able to take the time and code a system where you could beg specific items from specific npcs. Such as a slight chance of lvl5 beg being leather gear from tanners or metal armor from armourers etc..

Wish I wasn't just a graphic designer and knew how to code this stuff and be able to app to EA now that they're in VA ;D few states away is better than allll the way across the country lol.

I enjoy having begging on my template, but that definitely does leave this char to be pretty useless when it comes to combat of any sort. Would at least like to consider it a real char with begging if there was some sort of distinguishing mark that would allow people to see the GM Beggar tag on things I were to have begged :D

Heh.. I'd pay well for a lantern that said [Begged by: Paris Hilton], or Martha Stewart... heh.

Ah those are cool. I have one that is the skull of Ryax Runestone, but they aren't lockable (at least mine isn't) so it sucks you can't display them.

Yes, I wish they would add in more begging items. Maybe something that is even useful so that you could sell it. Some kind of enchanted food with a regen or a potion that does something sweet. Right now I have a friend who has a GM begging vendor at my shop and he barely ever moves anything at all.

yea the only thing that ever sometimes sells for like 25k are the begged lanterns simply because they can stay lit on vendors lol. But even if they just put my name on that, at least I'd be proud to see my name on vendors all over luna lanterns haha.

Seems to me that would be no different or difficult than adding the "Crafted By" tags.

Now... give beggars something really useful to beg for, new house deco!

I'm not wild about putting the begger's name on it ... too prideful for a humble begger.

What about doing it the other way around? "A lantern: given to the poor by $NPCname".
This opens up a design space of difficulties/quests and a playstyle of begging for rare donations from event-NPCs.

I'd like my name on one but I also like maplestone's idea of it having an npcs name on it.

I would also like the rare chance of getting an ice white lantern. I just really like ice white and it would go good with christmas decorating. :D

I'd love to see a lot of nice things done, but I figure baby steps for requests first :)

shouldn't be too hard to copy and paste the gm crafting tag code from one profession onto begging items I would assume.

Ooo... I assume you got that from the old days when you could carve up a corpse? That would be cool!
I do have the "Skull of Jim Morrison," and yes it's from the old days. :D

I also have about 70 of his friends........................ :D :D :D

There is a way to lock them down for display. If you are on Pacific go to the co-ords on my sig, go into the market and walk straight to the back. You will see a row of gold chests on pedestals. If you open them up and look inside you will see all of my skulls.

I'm not on pac, but I had heard with the locking changes you could lock newbied items down inside bags and chests (I'll have to see if one of my xshard newbie chars could make it so I can take a gander. Love to look at other peeps rares and drool ;) ), I just would like to be able to use them as decor in my house :( I have a skull, 3 more heads, an arm, a leg and a liver which are named that I can't lock unless inside a container. My evil tower pines for more EVIL decor. Woe is me:sad4:

prestige in their begging
A contradiction.. a beggar's reputation should come from being well-known within (or rather, without) the community. "Begged by" tags would be too boastful and proud.

If anything, I think the GM Beggar title should show on the paperdoll at all fame levels (if it's the highest displayed skill).

Some more begged items would be nice, especially ragged clothing and food. A mouldy pillow, a moth-eaten skirt, a bowl of corn, a poorly stitched shirt.. and more NPCs that give items instead of gold would be good.

There's a sticky thread on the Beggar forum for skill updates/improvement ideas if you want to add this idea there

I would agree if it were IRL xD

But to be a GM beggar in game, I would be damn proud of it lol. Not as easy as being lazy and sitting on the street irl begging. I want it well known of the countless hours spent begging when that time could have been well spent watching paint dry which would probably have been more eventful xD

Fishing pole.
Oh wow. Never knew there was a begged tagged fishing pole. This is from heartwood?

Answered my own question xD

Elves in Heartwood, and the elf in Moonglow can be begged for items, not gold. All items acquired in this manner have the "Acquired by Begging" tag affixed to them and are unstackable.

There seem to be different levels of rewards. The theory is as follows:

* 75% Level 1
* 24% Level 2
* 1% Level 3

Be aware that items that have both normal image and reversed image seem to appear twice as many as others in the same level, as the normal and reversed are treated respectively.

Level 1

* Image:Water pitcher.jpg Water Pitcher (normal)
* Image:Water pitcher reversed.jpg Water Pitcher (reversed)
* Image:French bread.jpg French Bread

Level 2

* Image:Lantern.gif Lantern
* Image:pizza.jpg Pizza
* Image:Empty bowl.jpg Bowl of Stew
* Image:Wedge of cheese.jpg Wedge of Cheese
* Image:Dates.jpg Bunch of Dates
* Image:Shirt.jpg Shirt
* Image:pitcher of liqour.jpg Pitcher of Liquor (normal)
* Image:pitcher of liqour reversed.jpg Pitcher of Liquor (reversed)

Level 3

* Image:Bedroll.jpg Bedroll — WARNING: Placing the bedroll on the ground and 'opening' it permanently removes the "Acquired by Begging" tag.
* Image:pitcher of wine.jpg Pitcher of Wine (normal)
* Image:pitcher of wine reversed.jpg Pitcher of Wine (reversed)
* Image:Bottle of wine.jpg Bottle of Wine (empty)
* Flower Garland
* Flower Garland (reversed)
* Plate of Cookies
* Fishing Pole
* Image:Fish steak.jpg Fish Steak (cooked)
* Sake (same graphic as Tokuno artifact)
* Turnip

There's two versions of the flower garland (left & right facing).
oh ya I forgot about the garland, head gear no beggar would wear unless they were a flower child which I am not ;) And thank you Pete I also forgot the fishing pole.

I personally would rather our GM title showed up on our paperdoll regardless of fame level OR we were given a way to make fame using the skill.

I have an rp character who is a GM beggar and she has no real fighting/magery skills to PVM for fame or smithing/tailoring. Why? Because rp wise she's a beggar.. if she could hunt high-end monsters or craft fantastic armor she wouldn't need to be skilled in begging. I'd love to have a way to turn in begging items JUST for fame or the ability to make our title show. I'd love to have her Grandmaster Beggar title show, but I'd have to soulstone something on to her to gain fame with and I really hate breaking rp for any reason.

It would be nice to see the GM beggar be able to obtain something for all the work they've done...Besides just the increase chance at halloween

Maybe for a GM beggar it could go like this:

A GM Beggar (only) has a chance to get a 'coin of mercy' from NPCs through the begging skill. The chance for this should be cery small....say 1% or even less.

Once a Beggar obtains a pre-determined number of these, he/she can turn them into some other named NPC (similar to how we did spring cleaning) for a special item(s) which the Devs can (and should) change throughout the year....this way the special items remain rare because there will only be a amount of time to get them before something else takes their place.
This will keep begging active and worthwhile, and although not designed for RP, it might appeal to a broader base.

I like this idea it would give people a reason to beg other then the small amount of gold you get. And the items from the elves that no one wants anymore. I wish they would change those items too.

We beggers need a change :D

Indeed ! Beggars must unite and at least show Jeremy and Leurocian that we ARE a significant enough amount of players to listen to. If it's only a handful of people requesting it then it's simply not important enough to make it to the drawing boards. But if there's enough demand for something there will eventually be talk of change to improve a system that people want.

Help post constructive ideas on what you would do to improve the begging system and keep this thread up top till the next work week :) maybe it can be looked at for pub 57.

Maybe they could add a dead christmas tree you can get from the elves for christmas. And maybe fruitcake since people like to throw that in the trash but not the same graphics as the old one so the rare collectors don't get mad. :D

Ya, that's pretty much what I was suggesting, and for exactly the reason you point out; no character that is solely a beggar would have a way to accrue fame under the current game mechanics.

I remember counsellors showed their professional title on the paperdoll even if they had less than level 4 fame, so it's probably doable for gm beggars.

Begging definitely needs some love. I urge anyone with ideas for begging to add to the sticky thread on the Beggar forum so these posts don't die and scroll off the page. That way we can keep track of all this stuff and point the devs to the "master list" for consideration.

Well, since this has been one of the longest most annoying skills to Gm (im not there yet, almost 87) there should be some sort of advantage to having it

We should squeek our wheel a little louder so the Devs take notice,

I'm not entirely sure it's good design to be putting the rewards at the end of long annoying roads :)

I think it would be better to spice up the road a little. (that's not to say there shouldn't be an endgame too)

there are a few other skills in the game that need some attention (stealing being another one)

unfortunately, SA is taking priority (and it should).

But, I would love to see something done for begging....I have really been working it over the past month and it is long and boring (although it is cool to get a heartwood rare). But, as of now there is nothing special about being a GM beggar, (unless you are an RP, or its Halloween)

There needs to be something for those GM beggars out there (of which I hope to be one before halloween) the skill is just too hard to work for there not to be

I've had some encounters with beggars in San Francisco who were anything but humble. They were more court jester, trying to entertain the passers-by often by poking fun at them. I like the title idea, but for those beggars who want to be humble, perhaps a toggle switch which lets you chose whether to have an item bear your name or not. I also like the idea of having the giver's name on it too.

Oh and maybe, just maybe some new Dev member needs a learning project and this can be it, much like milking a cow was. :D

I would still like a statue of a beggar better than the crystal one to let people know that a GM beggar lives here. Better yet have it beg as you walk by. While I am dreaming It would be nice to have my name on it.

Ok call me a dreamer, but put begging in it when you do. The Dreaming Beggar.

You could always just toss it on a soulstone and lock it out front of your house if you want people to know that ;)

It won't beg though :(

You could do like I do and live in the Beggars wood!...... Located on Great Lakes South of the Trammel Yew Gate at 69.53N, 35.47 W.....

I'd put up a Screen shot but my computer isn't very good right now and I'd hate to disappoint the Beggars wood is pretty sparse but rather interesting trust me.... it's not far from the Gate directly 6 O'clock.... can't miss it..... ok well you can but it'd be pretty hard..... right south of the YEW..... Yew-wood Forest Theatre.

I am afraid that I like the way that "Kazola's treetop keg and winery" looks for a beggar's house not far to the W of beggar's wood much better. That thing looks like it is a house that is falling down. I don't know how she come up with that design. That look like a real house a beggar would have. The thing looks like it is so broken down it should have a condemed sign standing in the yard. You have to be careful not to fall through the floor. I didn't even see any storage.
