Hmmm...a Golem would have a bit of a tough time killing someone, who could run away, when they noticed they were getting whacked, I would think.

How did this occur? Were you at your computer when it started hitting you? Were you frozen with fear, and unable to get away?

Statloss? I don't think you can be in statloss unless you are in factions and get killed by an opposing faction.

Golem training should be removed from the game or no skill game from it. I still see people in Luna whacking a golem for hours on end. I love doing an area peace and then invis the golem to see if they are actually at the keyboard... then I'll apologize and move on.

How did we ever gain combat skills before there were golems and 100% poison weapons?? OH yeah... we went out and killed monsters, whacked on guild mates or ran from PKs.

like i said before, I was not afk. I attacked my golem then answer an ICQ and was dead before i noticed it was hitting me back. Think about it for a sec before you start throwing around accusations. If your golem is going to hit you back it will be when you first start hitting it, not while you are afk. I can see the direction this is heading so peace out kiddies.

congratulations your one of those people who are constantly pestering people like me who DO train at the screen. you'll have to forgive me for not wanting to go out to dungeons etc to train my 20th character on the same lines and my fingers which are regretablly starting to ache from my obsessive interest with this game. Seeing as how even if these people are afk they aint actually effecting you in anyway how about you reserve your vigilante activities to people doing things that are actually harming the game. such as resource scripting or abusing others against the toc?

You are welcome! :eek:snap:

Some people called the vamp form thingy an exploit, now it's fixed. I think golem whacking is an exploit of the game mechanics and should be fixed, too.

Sorry but I'll have to agree with Old Man of UO on this one. You can train just as easy by hunting as you can with a golem. The only difference is everyone trains with a golem so they can go afk and not have to worry about dying. Claiming that you sit at your keyboard and train with a golem is just ludicrous. At least with dungeon hunting you not only gain skill but you can loot as well.

It can be pretty boring, but a new player can make a pretty good profit off of earth eles by collecting the gold and all of the gems.

Blanket statements like this are rather silly... I used a golem to train up my ninja. At no point was I afk. Majority =/= Everyone.

Thats the thing a new player thats fine for them. But a 5-6-11 year old vet with billions of gold wanting to or having to because of nerf to make a new template again for the millions time aint going to go spend 5-12 months trying to raise 1 skill up doing the waiting for spawn kill spawn kill pretty much taking any spawn from a potential new player and grinding of tedius repetitve boring old dungeons that they saw for the billionth time when they can raise the skill in a faster way directly affecting exactly what they want to raise.

Seriously more people will just do the dungeons if you put 500 different doom level artifacts on lizardmen :) With the nerf of bos its not even worth getting gold from low level critters, The items are so low intensities theres no reason for a vet player wanting to train a skill which he probably trained dozens of times before in pvm low level critters. And they will need the skill already past gm to even attempt something high end which again they most likly die so many times that it will take them another year to finish. By then there template will be nerfed again and they will need another skill and there goes the endless cycle.

It would make it much more rewarding if the loot levels were adjusted, but I still wish they would take the golem training bug out of the game.

The nice thing about being a veteran player with billions of gold, is that you can buy an advanced char token off a vendor and start at a higher skill rate. The skills that people are training on golems are not that hard to train up by hunting, you just have to hunt the right creatures to get good gains.

I have tried both the golems and regular dungeon crawling, and have always had better gains by hunting. Maybe I'm just lucky.

There is NO single melee skill that I can't go from zero skill to GM in 2 days, and to 120 in 1-2 days more in either Ilshenar or other dungeons. I can have a brand-spanking-new zero skilled warrior ready in five days without using a soul stone or whacking a golem. No tricks involved. It is actually faster to train in a dungeon than in Luna with your pet golem. And the gold is pretty good to boot, a heck of a lot better than what you get from a golem.

Now, if you wanted to add in lockpicking, cartography, or taming then yeah... it will take 5-12 months.

Golem-whacking is an out-right purely certain exploit and should be removed.

I take offense at this. I have trained with golems and ALWAYS do it attended. First off I have a prepatched golem that I wouldn't put in jeopardy EVER and secondly I have 4 accounts with 4 houses that I worked DAMN hard on and wouldn't put any of them in jeopardy of unattended macroing EVER let alone for the stupidity of skill training. I hit golems because the gains are more consistent over long hauls and because you don't kill the monster and then have to go hunt up another one to wack on. This makes it faster and less of a hassle to GM. I worked many melee skills up before golems and would do it that way again if golem training was deemed illegal, but until that time, do not lump everyone together with how YOU see it happening. I value my accounts more then ever taking a short cut that is illegal to game play and putting them in jeopardy. I will however take advantage of any legal shortcuts as that is my right and my choice of game play.

My response was that you can go into stat loss by being killed by a member of another faction, or by suicide. I have never tried to see if a tamed pet would put you in stat loss.
Yeah, but we still don't know if mr nateee is in a faction. Plus, assuming he was in tram, which is where most people use their golems, he shouldn't have entered statloss assuming he is in a faction.

Yes you can go into stat loss in Tram. I accidentally blew myself up one day and went into stat loss in Tram. If you commit suicide in Tram you will go into stat loss if you are in a faction.

He must be in a faction. I don't believe their is any other way to go into stat loss (that I am aware of anyways.)

I just tested this with my faction char, yes he got stat loss from being killed by his own golem, probably counts as suicide ;). To the above posters talking about how they see no need for golem training.. good for you, be satisfied with your own self obsessed sentiments and let others train how they damn well please. And to call it a bug is utterly ridiculous. What does it matter if you train v a golem or other monsters? noone seemed to mind when people trained their skills on the training dummys and if someone is prepared to spend the time required to gm and 120 a skill on a golem then let them be. I personally cannot be bothered to take a character to a dungeon , wait for spawn, move around with the spawn etc for the umpteenth time when i can train a character on a golem using perfectly legitemate means, nor do I need the money or loot you seem to find so alluring. Like I said if you like it fine.. but don;t expect everyone to want to do the same as you

Oooo Ouch! Chill a bit. Self obsessed? Not at all... it's just a game mechanic that never was meant to be. And training dummies only work up to about 28 skill or so, about what you can buy from an NPC. Of course it is a bug, using the same logic others had about vamp form, for example.

However, I take your point, as long as it is legitimate and legal, you are free to poke your golem... heh... golem-poker. A new name for people who do that... heh. Anyway, since area peace and invis-ing your golem are allowed by game mechanics and are not considered harassment, I am sure you won't mind if I use them, right?

As pointed out its not a exploit it is legitamate training method just like wacking dumies, Or staying in a spawn area and letting them come to you or letting 20 sheep hit you or training with a guild character all legitamite. I personaly never trained with a golem only because I have every skill made at least twice fold in a couple of dozen soulstones for the times they make a certain skill unusable "item identification" and make them useful again. But If I ever needed to train I will take the easiest way to do so with the least hassle if thats golem training or standing in a cementary and auto defend or letting a dozen trogs hit me so be it. I already put in my time before power hour when you can get pk everywhere. I dont need to put in that time again let those who havent done it go through those times.
I have to say the gold sucks if am training the last thing i want to do is recall to bank stop my training to unload every few minutes. Got too many other ways to make gold than picking it from corpses.

Lockpicking- satyr. Cart satyr.Taming well just kill me now

Actually remmember they chaged golems from 100% poison ressit to 90% poison ressit to make them vulnerable which shows they just tweak it to make sure its fair but they approve of it.

No but you would be interupting my game play or in other words griefing, and I get repeated people doing this to "test" if i am afk which gets very annoying, i also get people repeatedly informing me how they have paged a gm on me and inform every passer by about my dubious actions, now while I'm not accusing you of such actions, all of them combined become very tedious as well as uncalled for. As for your insistance about how its a bug, the more you do something, the better you get at it, an exploit/bug as you so call it would be taking advantage of game mechanics to reap an otherwise unintended benefit. It takes longer to gain on the golem, I have to constantly repair it, and I get no financial or fame reward for my work. There is no part of what I do that is exploiting any part of the game, I'm simply happier training my skills on another new character in a tried and tested manner.

Now I agree there are many who do this afk and this is not condonable, however there are also people that use scripts to train their skills in dungeons and other spawn locations and this is what I feel should be the object of attention .. not the manner in which people choose to train (i.e golem or dungeon spawn) but the way they implement it (i.e afk or attended)

My apologies if I seemed irate, but I find it hard to pat people on the back when they claim how they are fighting the threat of dishonest playing by assuming all they come across are guilty and act accordingly instead of maybe just saying hi!

Just to reply to this, the vamp form debate was over being able to use an ability that should have required 99 skill points but with only about 30 actuall real skill needed, or 0 if u used a soulstone to transfer the skill and then still keep the benefits. This was completely different as it made a mockery of the necro skill to achieve one of the most powerfull abilities in the game and still have space in your template for more skills than should be. I use a sampire and fully agree that this change was needed. But using the golems relies on no such trick or oversight. You get what you put in, no more no less. You put in the time needed to gain the skill, but then have to keep that skill in order to use it so not too sure what point you were trying to make in comparison.

No way thats not what unattended means. unattended means if youre not physicaly at youre computer. If youre head moves right left or decide to scratch a itch if youre sitting in front of the screen youre attended. Going by the logic you just said if i think about my hot neighbor while doing in action in game then im unattended cause am daydreaming or my mind is not completly focused on uo.

I got killed by an ogrelord trying to answer an ICQ once, I learned to 1. either ignore my ICQ or 2. go to a safe place to answer it. there is a third option and that is going invisible or hiding with the risk of being revealed or invis wearing off before you return to the game after dealing with ICQ.

Sometimes people train their barding skills and their magery skills in the same area that other people train their weapon skills.

Listen closely Will Hunting. I'll try to explain this one more time. If your golem is going to attack you back, it will be right away not after ten mins of whacking it. So, to explain further, to be afk I would have had to attack my golem and sprint off. ICQ works by popping a chat window up on your screen, so that ill timed ICQ distracted me enough that my new char with low resist and weapon skill was dispatched in a matter of seconds. Try it some time.

The fact of the matter is that going around and interrupting the activities of other players by casting peace on their creatures in Trammel is a form of harassment and should be dealt with.
Eh, don't know that it's actionable by gms, as such, but it's probably the lamest form of griefing. Basic qualifier: if you're doing something to irritate someone else, you're griefing, even if you "think" you're catching a macroer.

I've been training magery these last few days, spamming away whatever spell suits my skill in a nice quiet part of Luna, the stables. And yes, even though this is the 9th time I'll have gm'd magery, I'm attended.

I've never met so many friendly passers-by. They all stop, stare at me, and say "hi", wait, say "hi" again, then wait a longer time, then "hi" again. If I was standing there doing nothing (ie: not casting), those same people wouldn't have given me the time of day.

I just ignore them so they get all worked up thinking I'm afk, like I'm somehow ruining their gaming experience. I guess by my own definition this is griefing them in return, but I refuse to answer to someone who clearly thinks the worst of me already.

I had a whole bunch of people invising me and my NPC while doing wrestling, too, so I bound a guard/kill macro to a key and just popped it every time one of us vanished. The invisers soon gave up.

Yeah. EA is encouraging the whole vigilante mindset by encouraging people to page gms on every little thing so that they don't have to hire people that can actually develop the game so that it can handle these things itself.

There is a reason why most, read all, enlightened societies frown upon vigilante justice. Its just ends up breeding people like the HARASSER above that go out of their way to grief people for the fun of it and tie up GM queues with senseless pages that keep the GM's from having time to deal with real issues.

I make a habit of ignoring people all the time when I am doing mind numbing tasks so that I can get them to tie up the queues. Like I said before, sooner or later, something will break. Either EA will learn that vigilante justice isn't the way to go. Or GM's will get so tied up with stupid pages like the HARASSER above makes that they won't be able to do anything but answer those.

They don't want to talk to them. They want to page a gm on them because that's how they get their enjoyment in the game. GMs should mark people's accounts when they make bogus GM pages and after enough marks they should be banned. Griefing is griefing and it shouldn't be allowed.

As I said before, and will say again (until the you know what's that protect their you know what's come around and you know what me for you know what'ing in a way that doesn't you know what), EA is fostering a vigilante mentality that will lead to the same problems that vigilantism leads to in all enlightened societies. As long as they can get suckers to pay a monthly fee to do nothing except sit around hoping to catch an 'evil cheater' so that they can page on them and then sit around patting themselves on the back, EA will continue to foster this environment and design the game around that environment.

Its fairly easy to see. EA puts in systems in the game that encourage scripting, which keeps scriptors paying for their accounts. Then they round up their yes men players and encourage them to run around looking for these bad guys for them, which keeps the *censored since I don't have friends in low places like others seem to* paying for their accounts. Its a win win for EA and a lose lose for players that play the game to have fun.
