Why was i able to tame one at only 115 and control it but the barding difficulty is 129.something ????

Because barding difficulty and taming difficulty are different things.

Also because barding difficulty seems to be worked out based on all bards having 120 everything and slayers as standard so the figures are all top heavy. There are several pets you'd have more chance taming than barding, which seems daft. You'd expect it to be harder to tame a critter than annoy it :D RL critters are certainly easier to annoy than control - I have the scars as proof....

There does seem to be some variance in how difficult animals of the same species are to tame, so something obviously goes on behind the scenes, but without a "taming difficulty" figure in the lore screens (wish that was added in), that's just my experience taming, rather than anything factual. But stronger pets seem much tougher to tame, so who knows? ;)

I know its crazy but i think it would be easier to calm a peace with music than to convince it not only to not eat you but to do you bidding

I think someone decided that bard = PvM god, and while we're powerful, I think we got some pretty serious "balances" like the difficulty figures, the need for slayers to make some critters even bardable at all and the requirements of staying within range and visible.

I wish someone would look at things again, sensibly, and remember that we once got told that being over GM wouldn't be essential, just enhance the effects of our skill. Then look at the barding difficulty list etc. I think barding came out considerably worse than many other skills with the advent of powerscrolls, and it's nuts.

Hm. Actually, bards were one class that got hit really hard in Publish 16 - the same publish that brought power scrolls. And alot of it WAS justified. You used to be able to have maybe 20 provo and have about a 1 in 10 or 20 chance of provoking a Blood Elemental onto a Balron ... and get gains for it! You just had to run around long enough to get the provo off ...

I agreed at the time, and still do, with some of what they did with bards (at the time, they were a leading class, and this was before discord existed), but I do wish they had not so severely went to the side of "you have to use something of X skill to gain". It makes SENSE that the harder the thing is to deal with, the more skill you will gain off a success. (In other words, the best skill gains should be in the 10-30% chance to succeed range, rather than the 40-60% range.)

two very different skills with two very different purposes/uses...

Yep, I had a bard tamer at the time... yays for having both skills nerfed at once lol. I remember when we had too much power, then the subsequent nerf.

I don't have an issue with training barding skills, more the fact that in comparison, my tamer has had control of 2 kitsune since she hit 85 skill, enabling her to go out and do pretty well and function as a tamer. For her, training beyond GM is still optional, with 110 being more than adequate for all but the firesteed and warhorse if she chooses that. She has a lot of fun as she trains and good pets.

Compare that to barding and lol... 85 skill forget it... GM skill keep training...110... getting warner. It's all pushing too hard towards needing 120, which is just plain wrong. Too much requires you to be over GM in my view. Especially as barding is often combined with other classes in templates. Having a hefty skill requirement makes it a real juggling act to have say a tamer with disco and provo or provo and peace.

It seems some of you are forgetting that this is a game, and that what seems logical in the real world can't always translate into the game world. If we were going to hold up the game to a real world standard then a huge number of changes would have to be made.

Take storage as an obvious example; after loading on your full set of armor, you're able to lug around a ton of junk in your backpack and still fight, or take a fully developed bright green snake plant that weighs 1 stone and remove 8 thorns and 8 seeds and end up with 17 stones worth of weight.
