Insight into the Insurance Bug Revealed at Town Hall

I was about to stop listening when it sounded like QA was ending, but I am glad I stuck around. There was an extremely revealing exchange when someone asked why blessed items did become equipped when EZ-looting your corpse.

The explanation for the issue was that blessed items never hit your corpse. Drawing from this we can assume that insured items at some point do hit your corpse. So if for any reason there is an issue with those items being put into your backpack, they will stay on your corpse!

Yeah I agree with you on this one link. Maybe they should make item insurance work exactly like blessed items. Being there must be some difference somewhere since the blessed items "never hit your corpse".

The insurance bug has already been solved. However it still exists. It has to do with insured items being sold on vendors. This was revealed like months ago. If you have anything still insured from when you bought it before the change then you need to uninsure it and then re-insure it.

If they did that then upon rezzing...we...would...have...to...replace...each...and...every...singe...item...of...armor...and...jewelry...by...hand...one...piece...at...a...time...

Rubbish.

In that thread, many people, including myself asserted that:

1) Vendor purchased "insured" stuff stays with you
2) Stuff insured by character A stays with character B when B dies
3) Non-insurable stuff like spellbooks and runebooks can drop
4) CBDd' clothing can drop
5) Ethereal mounts can drop

I died last week and my pure white vet robe was laying next to my body when I went back. I hadnt even noticed it missing from my backpack untill I seen it on the ground. This was not even 10 days ago. So maybe a new bug, or the old one got rehired.

I do not believe the insurance bug exists and I never have, in my opinion it only occurs to people who swap items over to new characters and forget to hit the auto renew button, or people who run out of money.

The amount of times I have killed/been killed and not once seen it happen is ridiculous... I have killed people by luring them to fel because they had an item that wasn't insured in there paperdoll then they claimed that it was the insurance bug when it was merely there own stupidity.

I despise KR's brown menu windows, among other things, so I'm not playing that.

I hear UOAssist has an auto redress feature, my son tells me it works on blessed items as well, so I suppose this change would mean we all needed to buy that if we want auto redressing?

If you don't like KR's color, use a skin mod like Bitter Black (which will probably fix a lot of the "other things" you mentioned, as there are a lot of client tweaks in the package).

UOA Auto-dress takes about 0.5 to 1 second second PER ITEM, and chokes for about 5-10 seconds if it hits an item not on you, for EACH ITEM NOT FOUND. The KR feature equips everything at once.

Sorry logging into KR makes me want to throw up and at the same time go find something sharp to cut myself with, so I will just have to say no to KR.

But thanks for the advice on how the player might do Work to make a game that should be Fun less likely to make the player Suicidal when he/she logs in and tries to play it.

Honestly the only way I like KR is when I scroll way in close to NPCs or to my char.

But I cannot Play The Game scrolled all the way in like that.

Does anyone really need the autoloot/redress feature in KR?

From all I that I hear, KR is not pvp friendly.

I'd think pvpers are probably the players most in need of the quck dress feature.

Pet, it does exist. I got it 3 times in a row and i am in oceania as well. Anyway, in my case, i was cursed and overloaded just right before i die (all 3 times). Yes, i saw it with my own eyes, my insured stuff stayed on my corpse. Bank has more than enough $ for the insurance. I couldnt be wrong 3 times in a row, you need to have it once and u will believe it.

- did you just obtain an item (perhaps from another character on another account) that was already insured?
They added auto uninsure to player vendors a few months ago because they discovered that it would not automatically reinsure if another player (the one that didn't insure it to begin with) died with that item.

x: I'm not sure if it only happened when put on a vendor or if it happens regardless of how the item was obtained... I suggest uninsure/reinsuring all items that you swap around (I have swapped plenty of items between characters and on multiple accounts and haven't noticed it happening to me.. then again maybe it is a rare occurance that could have hit me if the moongates were all aligned just so..)

Petrify, I was hit by the insurance bug a few times ... In each instance, I had swapped an insured item from one of my characters to another. In each instance I had the insurance auto renew option enabled. I was able to recover the items from my corpse every time but one, when on a spawn a monster looted my sleeves .. which were returned to me by the person who killed the monster.

i pvp with kr all of the time. i actually use kr mostly because of the way it looks, i like it..

the new BB 2.1 has auto target your attackers, and there is a mod you can add in that lets you auto create a target bar from pushing a button.. in my case TAB..

in pvp when someone attacks me i push tab, and i get a new bar..
if he runs off, it stays on my screen.. much like the 2d party bars..

you try the legacy look?
its really not much different then the 2d look.

make sure you turn on legacy chat. .then move the chat window to the right where you normally have the journal. you can lock it in place so it doesn't move.. stretch it out so its the size of your screen.

then its exactly setup like 2d, you can even make hot bars to fill your screen up like you do in 2d with the icons :)

alto i just use macro keys and dint click around my screen..

I figured this was the behaviour of insured items a long time ago and it explains how you are much more likely to lose insured than blessed items by accident - apart from having no gold of course.

Blessed items default behaviour is that they stay with you on death i.e. they don't ever go to the corpse. Insured items go first to the corpse then there is a check for insured status in which case they don't appear on the corpse for others to loot. Its this two-stage process with insured items that leads to problems. Lag, something else going on at the same time like being in the middle of equipping an item at death, etc can potentially lead to an insured item not being returned.

My suggested fix some time ago was that all items are by default 'keepers' (blessed and/or insured), the check process then looks for non-keepers and sends these items to the corpse. This way if something goes wrong then you get to keep more items than perhaps you should but that is much better than the alternative.

Another and perhaps simpler alternative would be to allow players to bless items themselves. Make the cost to do this a lot more than you'd ever spend on insurance in the life of an item, say 1M gold (about a death every single day for five years) or even 10M. Problem solved.

Sorry, nothing is going to convince me until it happens to myself or someone I know and trust.

lol - so everyone who has lost stuff to insurance bugs is lying or just wrong until you in your god-like position of authority places the stamp of approval on it? Here's news for you: it doesn't matter what you think. :loser:

I've played almost 5 years and lost blessed items twice about a month ago. The first time was a charger that was in my backpack. The second time on another char it was 4 runebooks. They weren't on the corpse either time.

I logged out and in several times on each occasion. But with the runebooks an odd thing happened. Initially it was 7 runebooks that were missing but the next day when I logged in 3 of them were back.

So I fully believe that odd things like the insurance bug can happen.

But thats not a bug, that is "YOU WERE OVERWEIGHT", Just like too many items in your bank or in your backpack. if any of these things happen where is a random chance that your items wont get re-insured or may stay on your body.

All 3 things are just as important to watch as your gold in your bank and your auto renew.

Insured items are lost at a far greater rate than blessed items. There are clearly some bug(s) which can affect blessed items but they are a lot more rare. Since we now know that blessed and insured items are handled in two different ways, it is clear that the way insured items are handled is inherently flawed. This is something I have suspected ever since the "insurance bug" came about shortly after Age of Shadows.

Good, very good pick up JC. After all the agonizing, speculation and denials, to see something this simple is well, disheartening :(

The insured items are lost at a far greater rate because there are no accidental Blessed item losses, (forgeting to insure, clicking re-insure).

Also in the cases of all things on the paper doll being lost, in most cases a player has much more insured items than blessed items.

Weight and item issues of your backpack affect both Blessed and insured items equally. Anyone that has lost thier entire suit including blessed items they were carrying has most likely been overweight or had a full backpack.

Bank count issues, lack of gold and forgeting to insure or re-insure items affect insured items alone. Guess you can call those "Insurance Bugs".

Of course there is some of that mixed into it. Going by my own in-game experience, I have never seen a blessed item fall to someone's corpse. I have seen insured items. And I've looted a lot of corpses.

i cant see how being overweight or having a full pack can have anything to do with items going uninsured..
when you die, everything you own is placed on your corpse, its then transfered to your ghost.. witch in fact cant be overweight and probably at that point only has a few items in its pack.. maybe 20 or so if you carry around alot of spell books and rune books and have full armor insured.

i have seen this bug in person and its disappointing that the programmers that wrote the system cant figure it out..

i was sparring with a guild member when i killed him, everything he owned was on his corpse.. spell books, rune books, insured items, blessed items.. even his dyed robe that was a death robe so its blessed automatically.

usually when someone dies they go naked but this one stayed fully dressed.

you say ohh he forget to turn on auto renew or turned it off accidentally or ran out of gold in the bank, but even with that OFF or your broke and you die once things get placed in your pack, they just aren't insured anymore.
