SOS shopping, sorry for misunderstanding

I went to SOS shopping last night with one of my smaller Super Peppy toons. I did not understand your run methods and am afraid that I left someone stuck with a solo. On the bright side, at least they were a big toon that could handle it. I am sorry. I apologize.

On another note, you guys know that it is possible to run without fighting, right? Bring up task manager. Go the the "processes" tab. Find the process Toontown.exe and click on "end process". Confirm that you want to end the process (despite warnings of unpredictable results). That's it. You can run from any building, any battle, any situation, any place, any time.

On a third note, there is a four hour SOS shopping spree tommorow (10/19) in B-town at 5pm EST. But this is a group that runs before cogs. You'll need to know taskman in order to avoid sadness.

I want to apologize again to the white rabbit that I stranded. I'm sorry. It won't happen again.

The reason behind not running at the very beginning of a vp battle is that some people have a slower computer or internet speed. For example, my daughter's computer is third in priority in this house. She cannot run from any battle, building, etc without running the risk of going sad. We have accidently killed her and others a few times. :(

It only takes a few minutes to defeat that first set of cogs and all of us can return for another try!

Yes you can run before you start the battles. The problem we had when we first begin sos shopping was some people did not see run and got stuck doing the battles. So we decided to just stay for the first cog rounds, then run. We decided to to this and this way no one gets left alone. I could not make it last night because I made plans and did not want to break them.

I was the white rabbit and I survived. We all figured out that it was a misunderstanding and were glad to see you waiting in the pit to run again. I thought that possibly the confusion was that we had yelled Run! at the beginning of the battle, thinking everyone knew to wait until after the cogs before returning to playground. We discussed that when a non-sf is along we should wait to say Run! until after the first cog round so that there is less confusion.

Apologies also to Bluebeary and Mountainbeary McBurp for the misunderstandings, as they either got discoed and couldn't get back on, or just gave up the SOS shopping for the night. Second run we got Franz. Sorry Deb, but 4th try (after you left) we got Professor Pete.

I actually concluded that you were waiting for me to run first. I do a lot of shopping and when there's a new face I always wait for them to run first.

You guys should learn taskman. You can run at any time. Before, after, during the cog round ... it doesn't matter. You can run whenever you want.

I agree, waiting to say "Run!" until after the first round is a good idea. Problem is, if a non-sf knows the cards, he/she might run anyway, without waiting, or because he/she doesn't know why we're waiting.

My personal preference is still to wait for the end of the cog round. "Taskman" may work every time, but on the chance that for some reason it doesn't, I'd rather not risk it. Staying until after the cog round ensures that there is no chance of sadness. Even if a non-sf can't figure out how to open their book, they can always alt-f4 or close the window.
At least, I think so...unless alt-f4-ing in the time between the cog and skelecog rounds makes your toon go sad. Does it?

When in Rome do as the Romans do. I'll just be the last one to leave and turn out the lights. No big deal.

There is no chance of sadness with taskman. I have gone out and tried to find ways to go sad. I stood in front of cash train and x'd right before the final squash. I went into DA, let bigwigs beat me to within an inch of death, and x'd when their fingers started to twinkle. Zero chance of sadness if you do it the right way. Even if you don't SOS shop taskman is a nice tool to have. I do split screen toons in DDL 5 story buildings. When it is down to the last cog I use taskman to run with the helper. While the primary toon is dancing his helper is off re-gagging and hunting for the next 5. If you try that with alt-x you go sad.

I like taskman because we don't spend any time on bad cards. If it's one of those horrid nights when we get 5 Stinky Ned's in a row then we only lose 20-30 minutes.

That's all well and good if you're a Windows user, but not everyone is anymoe. The Mac people, from what I understand, can't X out of the game as easily as we can.

Can you run a multiple accounts from one MAC? On windows we can run as many instances of Toontown as we have RAM.

So just set your mac up to run two accounts from one computer. Then make a duplicate login. Your first session will always terminate without any loss of laffs or gags.

No, we can't. Legally speaking.
I'm not a MAC person so I can't say from firsthand experience ... BUT ...

"Just right-click (if you don't have right click, it's ctrl+click) the toontown app, and click duplicate, now you have two toontown launcher apps."

So just log back in with same username. The Toontown server will abort your encounter with the VP and send you back to the pit with all your gags and laffs intact.

Is there anywhere I can read up on SOS shopping? I have no idea what it is.

SOS Shopping: You go into the VP with the intention of getting a good card. If you see the toon caged isn't going to turn into a good card, you leave and try again.

Cards normally to stay for:

Professor Pete
Moe Zart
Lil Oldman
Clerk Clara
Barnacle Bessie
Flippy
Melody Wavers (sometimes)
Franz Neckvein (sometimes)
Daffy Don (sometimes)

Edit: Don't do this solo! Don't leave toons high and dry to finish short. This is a group event!

excellent job,my time was limited last night, but i'm glad we got frantz
now i have always had my screen windowed, but when i x'd out of toontown last night,my laff was full, then when i logged back on tt i went sad,in the past
when i x'd out of tt,i could go on playing w/o any consequence.
was there an update that makes you go sad when you x out now??

Well, see, you x'd out from the middle of the first cog round. Going sad upon doing so is relatively common.
This is why we finish that round before running. There's a chance (might be a 100% chance, I'm not sure) that you will go sad if you alt-f4 or x-out or whatever in the middle of a boss fight. Once again, I've never done "taskman," but I'd still like to wait until the first round is finished so there is absolutely no chance that something will go wrong and someone will go sad.

Personally, I would rather rely on running in-game, even if we have to gag up between. With my luck taskman would shut down my computer by mistake! Let's work with the lowest common denominator of techno-savvy. Everyone can open their book and click Go Back to Playground!

Yup. I think it was late spring/early summer. If you X-out (window corner) while there are cogs then you come back sad. The only two "safe" methods I have read about since the update are taskman "end process" and attempting a duplicate login.

It seems to me that the best thing is to know which groups do which ways and learn both methods of shopping. Both ways work just fine. It's just a matter of preference. I've never done it the other way, got confused, and left Granjell all alone with the L12 Holly. I'm sorry. My bad.

Tommorow's shopping party will be a run first affair. I'd love to see some of you guys come to tommorow's event but you'll need to know either the "end process" or duplicate login technique. If you wait for intermission then you're going to be doing a solo. Don't worry about being too slow and getting caught by cogs. Either technique will let you safely run away long after the cogs have come out.

Xing on my cpu works most of the time. The extra 5min of cogs shouldnt bother anyone because i know they had alot of problems with running. Just a question, but what does the time of they year have to do with going sad?

I will always prefer the bail in between rounds strategy when my daughter's playing. Her computer may be the only one on the planet that doesn't always allow a clean getaway.. I don't know. But that still brings the success rate under 100%... maybe 99.999999%

I have gone onto her computer to be sure she is doing everything correctly. I killed her too - that was kind of fun...

My vote still stands at the way it's run now!

There was an update that changed Xing out. People who never went sad before suddenly found themselves green and examining their feet. I think it was late spring when they released it.

It's about 5 extra mins per every "run". When the cards are cold the extra time can add up.
