Catastrophic event at friend's house!

She locked down seven dark and bright red decorative mode plants on the first floor of her Malas home around the beginning of October (after publish 55). Then she placed black goza mats under the plants for her Halloween themed decor. Today she found 3 of those plants had reverted out of deco mode and were now dying plants, and the other 4 were already deceased and changed to hard bowls of dirt!!! The dying plant bug has struck with all it's fury and may be related to goza mats! The hard dirt bowl dead plants (a mix of campion/poppies/fern were discovered atop the mats, as was a dying elephant ear plant. The pair of dying campions were barely visible under her black mats. She was able to salvage the dying plants and reset them to deco mode. How catastrophic and peculiar!

Plants have always had some odd behavior. I tend to leave plants alone until they complete their cycle because they are so sensitive that anything can set em off.

These were most definitely in Decorative Plant mode, not growing plants. All were placed atop goza mats.

Catastrophic?

Really??:blushing:

I wondered that myself.... when i first clicked on this post i figured it would say something crazy like everything in the house unlocked itself and everyone on the shard was their and took everything.

Honestly, I never knew that many people cared about plants in UO.
Who knew?

I'm delightfully surprised. :D

I would be skeptical about the goza mats being a culprit. Sometimes it just plain happens. I'm pretty sure it's not intentional, just one of those random inexplicable bugs. But it happens to me every now and then regardless of what might be under the locked-down plant. I don't think I've ever put one on a goza to see if it happens more frequently than on other surfaces, but it seems unlikely.

There are theories about what causes plants to do that, usually based on the condition of the plant at the moment it is turned to decorative (i.e. whether or not it has any diseases or fungi, whether or not it's fully grown through the entire cycle, etc). I can verify that no matter how perfect the circumstances are at the time of turning it decorative, it still has a chance of random sudden death. But it may be that the likelihood of that happening are affected by the condition of the plant. Were these plants that you or your friend grew personally? Or were they purchased?

I am sorry to hear about your plants dying though. Don't give up on your decor theme, it sounds really cool.

I was thinking UO black hole and everything was being sucked in the hole and broken into bits of matter. Who knew it was only plants??

I had a catastrophic event of my own. I put a stack of 10 bandies down and they decayed after like an hour!!! :coco:

Spellbound,

Did you post this in the Botany forum? There's a sticky for gardening bugs. A LOT of things have been happening off and on for a couple of months now. I've not heard of this one yet. Regine reads and responds there fairly often. Did your friend submit a bug report?

Well, if this had been plants she paid 100k plus for it might be considered catastrophic. :D Though I still question paying that much for a plant that isn't rare in the first place. :coco:
