Would You Like To Search the Number Of Certain Items On Each Shard?

I think the function will be very useful for rare collectors as well as genernal public. It doesn't have to be a in game function - player submit request asking the count of certain items, dev do a scan and tell us the result in FOF. Not only can it help us to value the in game items, it can also provide us early warning sign of "extra copies" of items emerging in the game.

On a smaller scale, it would be nice to be able to search items in a player's house in game. Maybe a servant like the bar tender or assistant that can be placed inside the house. That would be great news for us less organized packrats.

I'd rather see an in game, shard wide vendor search engine. Something that would be useful to everyone in game.

If they could do this then you think there would be any duped items still in game? No, because they would have located them all by now and eliminated them and all the dupers.

Its my contention that the rng for rare woods is basing itself off the current amount on the shard. I think some one is hoarding a few million frost wood and thats why none spawns!

They ban the ppl who hold mass amount of those items so they have a way to search specific items. I believe they were slow in banning because all the duped items can't be distinguished from each other so they have to spend time to investigate. So what happened is that they know there is a problem but addressing it require a lot of effort.

For players, we don't need to know, although it would be nice to know, which items are duped or who duped them. We only need to know if there is a sudden surge in the number of certain items. With that info, players can protect themselves from unknowingly buying the illegal items.

That is possible but unlikely. It is more likely that in certain area of UO, there are tons frost trees one next to the other becuase of the streakness of the RNG. Or RNG kept spawing lower end trees for an abnormal long period of time.

I haven't farm wood for a while, so i don't know if the lack of rare wood is real or not.

Wouldn't it be a bit too heavy to have such a function? I guess there would need a limit of the numer of search requests by minute, but is the server code even able to handle properly such a request?
As they replaced duplicated ice blue shrouded robes, there must be a way to find a category of item (the dupes probably didn't have the same id)...
Anybody knows more about the topic?

If you're asking for the number owned and not just the number for sale, then there's the problem of inactive accounts - do you include the bankboxes of people who have quit and may or may not ever return? Depends on whether you want to know if you've truly cornered the market or just want to understand the potential supply and demand.

Even though it would fall into the "copying WoW and changing UO" mold, I would love to see some form of centralized trading system (outside of scripters' paradise in Luna). Something that gives you an idea of how much of a given item is for sale and at what prices without spending hours upon hours of searching through empty vendors or bags on vendors.

Dunno about something that shows the number of existing items not for sale though.

I'd like to see a centralized system for tokens since they're essentially a respectable way to translate money into gold, so shouldn't be as dependant on a player's marketting skills.

For commodities (stackables), I'd like to see reverse vendors - ones that can buy as well as sell a specific item. They would let people their own trading houses for specific resources, allowing markets to grow and compete while still keeping it in player hands.

For individual rares, I still prefer player auction houses - it's a lot of work for the people who do it, but gives the rest of us a fun excuse to get and meet people.

The data should include all the items that can show up in game. So the items in the inactive accounts should be included since they are able to get into the circulatoin once the account is re-activated.

I am not that crazy about having a shard wide vendor search system like that "you know what" web site. That kind of system will still only benefit vendors located near the convenient locations (moongates, luna, etc.). I doubt anyone will run to trinsic swamp to save a few gold coins. The current system works quite well - if you can afford a luna shop, you have the control of setting up your own shop and vendors; if you can't afford a luna shop, you can rent one or more spots which are widely avialable; if you don't want to pay for the rent, set up your own shop at your house and drop runes during peak time. Sounds quite balanced.

A centralized system that sell player items is a big no-no. It will remove one of the most immersing element in the game. It is so Amazon.com and so not Ultima.
