ok we will say no more about it.
Maybe if your shard would have defeated the invaders they'd be gone.... Or atleast I wish that's how it worked.
Maybe they like your shard so much they don't want to leave. 
This Vanguard Force has been trounced so often and soooo hard on Atlantic there is a permanent grease spot in Cove that even the NPC's avoid!
But to be honest it is getting a bit old and they are being for the most part ignored at this point.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see the Vanguard on his Dread Steed asking for an escort soon.
" Excuse me noble traveler. May I beg an escort to Brit? Um...wait!!
Anywhere is fine...please!!! *sobs*
I'm soooo lonely!!"
A black cloud rises about the Vanguard.
As it settles he notes the Traveler is gone.
He glares at his steed.
" Will you STOP that!!! No wonder we can't make any friends!!"

The vanguard is event content. It has to stay until the next step in the event chain, PLUS something has to happen to the dread war horse. That looks like a permanent addition to the game so it has to spawn in some new place after the vangaurds leave.

Ah, the poor lonely Vanguard. Think how you would feel if you had just transferred from Great Lakes to Atlantic and suddenly everyone shows up and tries to kill you! The Vanguards, emigrating from a far away rift, probably heard that Cove was a nice quiet town with reasonably priced homes... they arrive to begin a small settlement and are met with nothing but hatred, agression and greed!
Perhaps Atlantic should welcome our new neighbors! I say lets meet the Vanguard in friendship... show them how we have mastered the art of stacking pies! Teach them how to acquire the wonderous new fire plants so that they can enjoy decorating their new homes!
Treat them as you would any young player... offer them a bit of gold for insurance, and perhaps some feed for their dread warhorses and who knows! We might find that they are our best friends and allies in the times to come!

Although the Vanguard claimed to be hungry, he knocked the pies from Lady Rachel's beautiful, well-manicured hand and attacked with a vengance!

Oh, so our motto now is: "Let them eat cake!"
NEVER! Even if they prefer chocolate over apples, your offer of friendship should not have been disregarded in such a callous manner!
With our offer of friendship rebuked, instead of milling flour for cake, we should beat our plowshares into swords, and offer them the sweet taste of their own blood!
When their lifeless bodies fall useless to the ground... their passing visions will be of the wondrous apple pie you offered and their last thoughts shall be regret for discarding friendship offered in peace!

It is most refreshing to see even the common folk rallying to the call.
So far this morning I have escorted half a dozen brave souls to Nujelm alone!
Although the messenger wasn't finished forging his weapon he valiantly carried his plowshare into battle!
The Mage cracked his knuckles and got right to work, while the Wandering Healer just sighed while watching the Bride and Groom giggle their way into the fray.
We will outnumber that Vanguard Spawn soon!
Mark my words!
