My parrying mage is dying ;(

Ok so there's a bug which makes you able to disarm shields. So basically my faction parrymage seems to be 75% of the time without shield when Im being attacked... So basically parrying isnt worth of the skillpoints atm.

So I was wondering, does anyone have better information about this except that "Are we supposed to be able to use Disarm against shields now?"

"No, actually, this is not intended. It's apparently a very old bug - you've been able to disarm shields for a long time, it seems - but the change to disarming spellbooks made it somewhat more obvious. In any case, we've got the bug logged and on our list now."

Cause this "on our list now" is kinda flexible term. Im just wondering if I should drop parrying for inscription now, or is this going get fixed really soon?

Adapt and keep playing. Move the skill to a soulstone (or fragment) if it isnt working for you and grab inscription - or hiding or nox etc. You may find you prefer it even.

There s no use asking for a date when something will be fixed as no one really knows. I imagine that it is nt high on the priority list was pub56 around the corner.

I have scribe on stone, so it's not the hard part. Building the DCI suit is the part Im worried. Not because I didnt have the parts, because it takes long time and lots of nerves to look for the right parts in my house hehe :) Maybe I grab myself from neck and force myself to rebuild the suit.

it's a bug that went in effect when they made books disarmable.

I'm wondering about your stats: How do you get the 80 DEX you need for Parrying? You'd have to lack either or Hit Points or of Mana.

I have 44 basic dex, crimson takes me to 49. I have 50% Enhance potions so from there greater agility potion takes me to 80. I also have Int and manainc bonus on my armor, and with 50 % EP Greater STR gives me good STR bonus also.

I see. Do you have difficulties handling the Greater Agility potions? I can imagine that it is really annoying having to chug potions all the time, and not forgetting about it. (And, you have to disarm your weapon hand to do that!)

The amusing part about the shield-disarm that just came to light is that I had recently decided that spellweaving wasn't for me and traded that in for parry. And now parry will go out the window for... spellweaving (now that we have our circles back).

Anyhow, about stats: with 100 str, 90 int, there's still 55 points for dex (with max 250 total). Adding potions on top of that, gets to 80 dex pretty easily. And yes, it can get annoying to have to keep chugging, but you get used to it. I have a nice UOA macro for disarm, chug blue, rearm to help with the annoyance.

No problems, and Im not wearing anything on my other hand. Im using EP 50, SDI 6, FCR 2, cold resist 10 ecru ring, ornament or magician and hat of the magi. So I get my castings and SDI without using a book. I have enough LMC on my armor so I get 40 LMC without book also.

Bah, I hope they keep this as a "feature". It's fun to watch the expressions or the mages when I disarm/steal their shield...I will say many mages on Siege have adapted by blessing their shields...la

I really don't mind the shield disarm. I've already stoned my parry for poisoning. My only problem is the dang disarm messing up my last weapon macro.. *sigh* but that has nothing to do with shield disarm.

ya it does suck but thats when you use UOassist making a macro to rearm certain weapons. Be nice to add UOA features to ingame macros. I hate using another program to play the game.

The problem is getting cursed and you lose stats. IMO parry isn't good enough to devote those points and the trouble. You could still carry a shield for some DCI without relying on parry if you want to. In a strong PvP scene, parry mages are generally more weak than other temps like necro mage or tamer mage.
