Cartography Changed?

I am trying to work up Cartography(for the first time in 8 years lol) it's a dragable skill(has a blue dot) but when i click on it it tells me to make maps with pen.

Ok i get the map making part with pen. did they change Cartography to a pen and forget to take the blue dot away or is there a certain skill level you have to be inorder to beable to use Cartograph via the Cartography skill....

Plus is there a better(faster maybe) way to gain in Cartography then just making maps...tried to read the Treasure hunters guide on stratics but that thing is so out dated most of the things it says to do to gain well talks about the POWER HOUR!!!hehehe remember that :bowdown: And using Cartography.

Blank scroll and cartographers pen are needed to make the stuff I believe. If you're on LA I can burn off 100 or so to get ya started. You're on your own for the blank scrolls!

Ok heres a stupid question cartographers pen same as map maker pen ?lol

And i am on Chessy sorry.

but i have like 40k blank scrolls just getting bored thought there was another way to gain besides making maps...still wonder about the actual cartography skill button is there a use for it once clicked instead of telling me to use a pen

Early on you start by making maps... I don't remember but I think you make local or town maps then eventually world maps or sea maps then world maps...

At some point you can start "Decoding Treasure Maps" but you have to have a lot of treasure maps to gain skill this way so you go as far as you can making maps with pen and scroll first.

The blue gem or the little grey thing you drag out is used when you de-code maps if I´m not mistaken. You will need that once you hit 99.5 in skill.

But make maps as far as you can. I believe it´s up to 99.5. Then just use GGS to get the last 5 gains. That way you won´t need that many maps to de-code...

It had not been long since I GMed cart.
it is best to just buy maps from the mapmaker and get to the point you can make world mapsas fast as you can. You buy maps for 5 gp and sell world maps back to the map maker for 6.
Most times the map maker will have 20 to start with like all other npc vendors.
Succeed making 18 you sell them back, but will ony have what you sold to buy back right away.

That is why it is better to start with about 20 blank scrolls then buy the 20 maps. make all 40 into world maps. Then sell all them to the map maker. It will then have 40 minus the fails back to you rightaway. When the map maker npc reaches the vendor cycle time it will the double the 20 you bought the first time to 40. Plus what you have at that time to sell.
The npc will buy only the maps you make. So only buy maps, not maps of Vesper and so on.
I never stood at home or the bank with a ton of maps or scrolls since I could sell world maps for 6 gp and buy maps for 5.
Not a way to make gold but it will cover the cost to buy new maps and pens.

As they said 99.5 (that I have ever known) is all you can get to by making maps. Once there you want about 5 level 4 maps to decode one per day for the naxt 5 days to get to GM.

Also you need not just sell back 5 at a time like I first thought. Sell all say 100 at one time.
Most will not sell them back because they think it must be done 5 at a time. That way you don't care if it is started out in a sub pack or not. The npc will buy them. No need to drop them on the ground

There is a faster way to GM Carto but ya still hafta make maps.Like others have said,get to world maps asap....than make more hehe.I just sat at brit bank watchin for deals while throwing my full packs of world maps into the trash,since I`m not into selling or litter.

Once I hit the 99.5 I went to Twisted Wield,make sure ya have good karma or you`ll get whooped up on by pixies and pirty much anything that comes within eye shot of ya.Go to war mode and dbl click a satyr.Run around till he discords ya than run outside and right back in.You`ll still be discoed but he won`t be chasing you around anymore.Just keep the satyr in the same screen and you`ll stay discoed.I went from 99.5 to gm in about 5 minutes. I`m sure you can do the same below 99.5 but I`m not sure exactly what skill level.If your to low,you`ll be to low to make world maps once discoed,maybe try lower maps?

Either way if your looking for the fast track to carto OR lockpicking I`d highly suggest befriending your local satyr.

No, they are two different tools, but tinkers can make both.
